- new areas
- over the shoulder camera like RE4
-they used the RE Engine which is the one used to make RE7, the UI is also similar to RE7's
-combat is similar to RE7
- you can find Wooden board and use it to block broken windows, it's optional, you can use it at whatever window you want
- RE7's Gunpowder returns, you can create ammo with it
- just like the original, there are 2 campaigns (2 scenarios), Leon's and Claire's

i understand that they are trying to make it creepy but the game is too damn dark i can't see shit, but i'm damn excited and i can't wait to play this masterpiece again

Thank you Capcom

I feel like the wooden board thing is gonna be like the electric cable that close the metallic shutters in the original one.

The enemy feedback from the shotgun looked awesome, exposing innards and stripping the flesh off their faces. New city areas being confirmed is amazing, always wanted to explore outside more, and the boards to block enemy paths is actually an awesome idea. Also pleased to see the pistol (at least the starting one) doesn't look powerful at all.

- RE7's Gunpowder returns, you can create ammo with it

I hated that feature, it makes ammo pickups feel less meaningful while padding the loot count so kind of disappointed to see this come back but whatever.

I saw a couple of minutes of this earlier today and it looks fucking astonishing. Like, I have been dreaming of a remake of Resident Evil 2 for the last decade and now it seems that Capcom are about to deliver that dream on a silver plate. When I saw Leon enter Raccoon City Police Department I got some serious goosebumbs and a kick to the face down memory lane. The eerie mood and creepy atmosphere definitely creates that nailbiting tension that RE2 became so well known for. And I hope to God that the clever jump scares are intact because they got me shitting bricks the size of Titanic when I played the original in 1998. To be able to experience one of the greatest horror games of all time, on current gen with cutting edge graphics, amazing audio, revamped gameplay and an all out gore galore in cramped corridors makes me think I´ve died from a zombie outbreak and gone to heaven.

Why does every game, movie and TV character have to say "you got this", I got this, let's do this, let's do this thing, we got this? Even when the story takes place in the future or past the characters still say it. Writers, please.

Got 2 minutes in and had to stop. I NEED to experience all of it on my own. I'll be patient and get the PC version.

I'm not at all into gameplay where the camera is over the shoulder and you see things in dark corridors with a flashlight.
And I wish the zombies in video games would sound like the ones in original Resident Evil 1 & 2 instead of growling wild beasts. Moaning zombies are way creepier and way more haunting than grinning and growling animals.

Other than that and thinking of it as a continuation of the style of RE4 it looks pretty good. I prefer the old style way more though (I'm one of those assholes who would be glad if tank controls came back).

Tank controls return along with new control style. It's confirmed.

I was sceptical because of the changes ... but this looks fantastic. But they should change the inventory design. Looks too much like a simple rehash from RE7. Also saw some assets from RE7. Looking forward to this.

Tank controls return along with new control style. It's confirmed.

Edit: My mistake. I meant fixed camera angles and the new style are confirmed. Sorry for getting your hopes up. I got mixed up.

You know these rare moments when the developers create something EXACTLY the way you wished for? This is one of them.

To be honest, when they announced the Remake I had no trust in Capcom but this is so amazing! I cant thank Capcom enough for this Fan Service. I hope the Game sells 15+ Million

Oh wow, that's even better!
Fixed camera angles is the way to play a Resident Evil game.

Fixed angles /w tank controls = the best
Fixed angles /w free controls = eh, still great but not as good as with tank controls
Over the shoulder angle /w tank controls = the controls save the angle so it's still ok but nowhere near fixed angles
Over the shoulder angle /w free controls = meh, don't like it

This looks amazing, it was a very unsuspected surprise and looks scary as fuck as dark as it is. Wonder if Capcom will bring it to VR.

Doubt it, the news would be huge if this was the case.

Link us to where this was confirmed, Duskgolem's rumor posts on Resetera don't count.

This looks like a sequel to resident evil 4 remade into 2, dream combo, 2 of the greatest games of all time Imo. Capcom have finally listened to the fans and nailed it. Day 1. Going on a blackout till release after that video.

From the official description
“A whole new perspective – New over-the-shoulder camera mode and modernized control scheme creates a more modern take on the survival horror experience and offers players a trip down memory lane with the original gameplay modes from the 1998 release.”

I assume that's what he means

Yeah I figured it was either that or the rumor posts, "original gameplay modes" is just Tofu and the like.

If it was fixed camera angles they'd be shouting it from the rooftops as that's a big selling point with fans of the original.

I agree with the way zombies sound, shit was fucking scary when I played the original.

That's it. But now that I see Modes.. I guess it's Tofu, Arranged, etc. Next time, I'll provide a source.

Sorry about that. I posted in a hurry AND misread the description on the day of reveal.
Probably stings now. =/

I thought this was just another Capcom rerelease to make a quick buck. I dig what I'm seeing. Looking forward to seeing how this turns out, crosses fingers.

Nah, I'm ok.
I was glad to be suprisingly excited about the game for a moment. Having not had any big expectations for the game in the first place it doesn't really sting that much :)

I agree with the way zombies sound, shit was fucking scary when I played the original.

It's sad that zombies are in general treated as if they were wild beasts in modern horror games and movies.

Gone are the days when zombies were haunting corpses of dead people instead of something that both act and sound like crazy animals.

I want this like yesterday please. I loved re7 , no complaints there, but I am foaming at the mouth for this. The evil within 2 was shit and my biggest disappointment this generation and I post this because I was expecting that game to scratch my 3rd person horror RE itch.

Yeah, it's definitely what a real Remake looks like. Fantastic job so far. I'm sure it'll be a blast to play.

Now just do a RE4 Remake and watch sales charts explode.

TEW2 was definitely a disappointment, I loved the first game so much.

Don't know how they botched it so hard.

I am in the same boat, I loved the first, must have gone through 3-4 complete playthroughs of it. All I wanted was a similar game with better graphics (since part 2 didn’t have a 360/PS3 version) and instead we got this...weird ...thing combining the worst elements of other games like TLOU, Alan wake e.t.d.

TEW2's first half up till, Stefano was pretty good, especially the initial buildup at the very beginning.. Where did all that craziness go? The eye that appears to your left as you begin to traverse the stairs, as the huge clock pendulum sways back and forth in a rhythm that marries itself to a bell in a distance that gets louder as you get further. The obscure and visceral paintings, the warped atmosphere. It was a very good setup for dread that just kept watering itself down, more and more as you progressed. By the time you got to Theodore's half of the game, it changes drastically.

I think the game should have been less in your face and more about suspense and slow burn, like how the beginning felt.
The combat was more refined than TEW1, but still felt similar.

The same thing with TEW1 (played this on Akumu recently and then on Nightmare for a more casual experience cause fuck going through Akumu 2 times) It starts off the same, it builds a heavy atmosphere that is seemingly less coherent than TEW2's, after a ways in.
I like'em both a lot, but personally, after the chapter The Craftsman's Tools, the game starts to feel a little action heavy with all the turrets and fucking humvees, lol.

They both suffer from similar stuff, they both have strong starts, but start to falter at the end, to be fair, I thought TEW1's end game encounters brought back that scary, fucked up looking atmosphere from the beginning just before the final fight of the game.

The goddamn overuse of stealth killed The Evil Within 2 for me. They give us an open world of sorts which offers the 'stimulating' gameplay mechanic of... crouching in a bush for seemingly ages. F that. Resident Evil 2 will have survival horror & genuine challenge without Leon going #fullSolidSnake. Just give us Juli Kidman in a crazy permanently shifting asylum setting with a limited amount of guns, ammo, great puzzles & tense encounters - without too much stealth. Voilà, Make Evil Within Great Again.

Let's hope the industry takes note vis-à-vis the enthusiastic reaction to this RE2 remake at E3. I also hope it's a huge success which will spawn sequels, not just RE3 Nemesis (Jill on next gen!) but actual more Resident Evil games using the same game design template. It's all that balance between tactical skill based shooting, actual horror, survival elements, enemy count & variety, level design + puzzles which it appears Resident Evil 2 has nailed. RE7 didn't, for what it's worth.

This is the RE4 sequel we never got, i.e. because RE5 veered into action shooter territory in which inventory management went out the window & the AI partner glutinously ate all the ammo. RE2 remake will wash away those bad memories.

So you can play 3rd person or you can play with fixed camera angles in this RE? If so that's amazing. Game looks great, I can't wait. I'm digging Resident Evil's coming out around my birthday.

Hey. I wanted to respond to you before I eventually go splash down, upon my futon.
Read the last page or so of comments. I was wrong about stuff I thought was confirmed. it was an honest mistake, though. I am a big fan of tank controls, so I misread stuff I had gone through on E3, granted I was tired, but that's no excuse.

I even provide a link to what I had read. Let me get it for you here... maybe that would be better, sec...
OK, here it is. Where I got my mistake from

This looks awesome. Zombies look great and I like how they react when they get shot. I don't think remakes should be exactly like the original so this looks great.

Yeah this was preordered as soon as I saw the trailer. Capcom are getting back to their old glorious selves after getting a severe case of amnesia last gen.

If that's the case then amazing. RE2 was my favorite OST in the series.
Should be on by default thou, obviously that's something they haven't learnt
The sound track is an important part of RE too
