What you think the next Metal Gear game will be?

Some say that Metal Gear series is dead but I don't think so. I'm sure Konami will make a new proper Metal Gear game at some point. Remasters of the old games might come first but Konami knows that there is demand for more games. What do you think Konami will make? Here is what I'm hoping. A full 3D remake of the first 1987 Metal Gear and its sequel with modern gameplay. It is the most likely scenario because then Konami has some blueprint to work with at least. They wouldn't need to come up with a completely new story. It will need new writing to fit the canon and to be a modern game but it can be done. Imagine Solid Snake vs Big Boss in 3D and with cutscenes. I want to see that happen. The most important thing is to bring David Hayter back. Then I would be excited.

Kojima has also mentioned that he wanted to make a game with The Boss as the main character set in WW2. That sounds like a great idea in my opinion. They could also make a game set between MGS1-2 with Snake and Otacon working for the anti-Metal Gear organization Philanthropy that was mentioned in MGS2. You would go to missions sabotaging and destroying Metal Gears. Konami has many options.

I dream about a new Metal Gear, at this point i dont care if Kojima isnt involved in its development. Just externalize it. Give it to I dont know, Naughty Dog or another first party.
I want it to be post MGS4.

A new story that takes place in the same world but without Solid Snake or anyone in the Snake/Big Boss lineage, and no crystal zombies.

I don't imagine is will be the high quality MG games we've come to expect. Konami will cash in on the series like they did with MG Survive. Please prove me wrong Konami.

Without Kojima we might actually get a decent Metal Gear game, for once.

In my incredibly unpopular opinion, I don't consider Kojima as a good developer.

Id be down for any and all remasters/remakes, but if they made a game and said, "This is Metal Gear Solid VI," i just dont see myself caring. Maybe a morbid curiosity, like driving by a car wreck. Its not fair to them because they may even make a great game, its just that series in particular is so identified with its creator something would not feel right.

He spends too much because he doesnt know what he wants, and there’s not a lot of people that can put him in check when he wants something stupid done. Too much ego. I think he’s a fine developer, but a try hard story teller.

Metal Gear just has too many spinoffs, I just talked about this in another thread but I think it has diluted it's value a bit. Metal Gear Rising, Metal Gear Survive, Metal Gear Special Victims Unit, it's too much.

Metal Gear Rising 2.
I don't believe in it one second, but that's what I'd want.

Naughty Dog? Incoming genderqueer Snake & Mei Ling redesigned with a new body based upon Hulk Hogan. 'Progress' et al. As for MGS, it's still (to this day) one of the most underutilized 'highest potential' franchises in gaming. Pushing artificial intelligence (in terms of enemy AI) should be its number one goal. I remember how the first 2 playstation era Metal Gears were sold exactly on that premise, i.e. great enemy AI which would follow footprints, pick up porno magazines & (in the second game) work as a commando unit to track the player down.

With MSG4 it lost that & became mired in its convoluted plot which might have added to its cult status, but most people (I reckon) just shrug & don't care. It's no surprise the MGS which is still considered by many as the best (Snake Eater) also has the most straight-forward (& easy to follow) plot, along with great action, stealth, AI, locations, typical MGS fun (from Johnny's scenes to the Raiden mask section) & great boss fights as well. It's popcorn summer blockbuster tier epicness, not a base building simulator in a repetitive open world (I'm looking at MGS 5 in particular).

I also believe a good MGS game can be made without Kojima simply because there are many, many people who 'get' what MGS should be. I'm not sure Kojima does anymore (after 5). I also know it shouldn't be a multiplayer game either (unless it's smartly inserted into the plot).

I don't think we'll have another Metal Gear game again like the ones we use to. Konami would have to dedicate a lot of talent and money towards it and I don't see that company doing it.

Hopefully, nothing ever, until someone buys Konami's gaming division and can either get Kojima or someone approve by him at the direction.

Id like to see a serious take on Metal Gear by someone hungry to get on the franchise. That Survive game was just a big joke. The series has influenced a generation of people - someone out there has the vision to make a good Metal Gear.

Might be fresh! New hands are not always a bad thing (not always good either) I think kojima was wanting to make movies more the last while.

I’d also love to see a remake of the original in the new fox engine. I know that people will roll there eyes at this, but a battle royale style game in the fox engine would be great too. They should have done that instead of survive.

It is hard to get the tone and story right without him. Those are big part of the games. I'm sure they can make a good Metal Gear game without him but it wouldn't be the same.

If Survive is any indication I really kinda hope Metal Gear is dead, I just don't trust Konami to do anything but fuck it up.

But best case scenario remakes of the original Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2 that have the open world gameplay of V but without the boring base building bullshit would be great.

I mean it was cool being able to explore your base in V but the management was just so boring, plus the constant leaving and returning and leaving and returning ruins the cinematic feel that used to be the big trademark of Metal Gear Solid.

Shit. I think it will be shit. Controversial opinion incoming.

MGS1 was god tier, amazing, just so much wow. Then it slowly but surely... turned to shit. Each title got a bit worse and lost the original vision. By the time we got to 4 it was the most bland and boring over hyped let down I could imagine. And 5 was just... Christ knows.

So for me, unless it’s like MGS... I think I’ve had enough.

Also; there's a technological 'relevance' issue worth mentioning here as well, i.e. one which the Terminator series also suffers from: in the case of MGS, a tank which can launch nuclear warheads no longer provides a wowzers 'fear factor' in 2018 as it did in the once-upon-a-time cold war era & 1990's. Warfare has changed & so has weaponry, i.e. Metal Gear's main plot (not just the Patriots, but actual weapon all these bad guys dream of wielding for xyz world domination reasons) needs to evolve & keep-up with the modern era.

It's all in the name, i.e. Metal Gear (the weapon) & Solid (aka Solid Snake). The former must be improved beyond its ability to fire nukes & in doing so provide a new threat with relevance in our own era. As for Snake (whether it's Big Boss or not), I was okay with Kiefer Sutherland so there's no much point in changing anything there.

What you think about MGS3? I played MGS4 for the first time not long ago and it was great. The gameplay was improved from MGS3 and I enjoyed the story too. The first two Acts were the best part in terms of gameplay.

Metal Gear Rising 2.
I don't believe in it one second, but that's what I'd want.
Should I play Rising? I tried the demo when it came out but didn't really like it. It just wasn't what I wanted from a Metal Gear game. I was excited when they showed the first gameplay:

The final game didn't look like that at all. The tone completely changed when Platinum Games started making it.

Don't really even expect one... To be sure, it's possible, and would make sense. Just with Konami at the reins I don't really feel its eventual.

If we do, then I would think it is more likely to lean toward a MGS V or Peace Walker than the others. Perhaps even more akin to MGS V's post-release progression and grind. I would be surprised if Konami decided not to have grinding that promotes RMT.

Mother Base and more management or progression is actually something I greatly prefer, too, and it even could well suit the next game if it takes place between MGS V and MG 1.... e.g. the building of Outer Heaven. Or, a sort of MGS V-2 where Venom supports Big Boss' efforts in South Africa.

But I'd prefer management and progression that felt balanced for pure game design's sake, a la Peace Walker. Was hard to shake the feeling in MGS V's end game (especially the post-release updates) that they were balanced poorly around promoting MB Coins. Either way, I'd likely expect something that sort of takes lessons from the open world and free roam GAAS of games like GTA V, GR Wildlands, and MGS V to influence it if Konami does indeed decide to put a large budget into it.

As for setting, would love to see more free roam but also a more open or larger story... something like The Boss in World War 2 where you have a bit more freedom to infiltrate or raid where you want, or Venom Snake continuing on from Angola-Zaire through Africa to support Big Boss' efforts down in South Africa.

Depends what you are looking for really.
I personally loved, it's one of my favorite games ever, but I also love Bayonetta, NieR Automata and all other games in this genre / By Platinum Games.

If you play it while looking for a stealth game, then you will be disappointed. If you play it expecting an action game that is, indeed, different from the main series, then you will like it.
Having played the game so many times, I can tell you that the tone didn't change that much, it still feels really similar to what you see in this trailer, it's just that there is the very intense / epic vibe that you can have in other Platinum Games, with over the top action scenes and fast paced combats.

It really in my opinion didn't change that much from this trailer. Yes there are some features that aren't there anymore, like wallrunning, and some parts of the environnement that you can't cut, but there are still a lot of things you can actually cut and it's a really fun feature.

It will also depends on what plateform you plan to play the game. On ps3 / 360 the Zandatsu (the cut feature) is really less impressive than on pc because you can have way less cut objects on the screen at the same time, they tend to disappear almost instantly which doesn't really let you have fun with it, while on pc you can have hundreds of pieces, and the game still looks actually pretty good on PC too.

Yooo, that post you are quoting is not from me :) Your quoted post links to here: https://www.neogaf.com/threads/digi...d-switch-ports-tested.1463525/#post-253325176 which is not one and the same :)

At the least you'd likely still enjoy the story and setting... Different gameplay style aside, it's still loaded with cool bosses, political speeches, and futuristic PMC aesthetic.

I'm going to say it again: next Metal Gear is Death Stranding.

Literally, Death Stranding is Metal Gear. The same universe(s), some of the same characters.

Hopefully the next MGS will have more immersion to it than MGS 5 ever did....along the lines of the previous games...or Uncharted...
