[The Hill] White House says Trump to discuss allowing Russia to question US citizens

Yes, you read that correctly. Yikes.

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Wednesday that President Trump will discuss allowing Russian investigators to come to the United States to question U.S. citizens, including a former American ambassador to Russia.

Sanders said during a White House press briefing that Trump is “gonna meet with his team” to talk about the potential for Russian officials to question U.S. citizens like Michael McFaul, who was ambassador to Russia from January 2012 to February 2014.

During Monday's press conference, Putin alleged without evidence that Browder illegally transferred $1.5 billion out of Russia and had funneled $400 million toward Hillary Clinton’s presidential campaign. The Russian prosecutor’s office later corrected that figure to $400,000.

Browder has denied the allegations.

The State Department on Wednesday called the "overall assertions" made by the Russian government "absolutely absurd" but a spokeswoman refused to weigh in on Trump's decision about possible interviews.

"Well, I can't answer on behalf of the White House with regard to that," State Department spokeswoman Heather Nauert said at a press briefing. "But what I can tell you is that the overall assertions that have come out of the Russian government are absolutely absurd. The fact that they want to question 11 American citizens and the assertions that the Russian government is making about those American citizens, we do not stand by those assertions that the Russian government makes."

Putin is trolling us so hard...

They asked for be able to question Kyle Parker.... Kyle Parker a congressional aide whose only crime was drafting sanctions against Russia. This is Putin trolling hard. He's laughing at us right in our faces.

In addition to McFaul, the Russian government also looking to question Putin critic Bill Browder, whose attorney Sergei Magnitzky died under suspicious sanctions while in Russian custody. It also wants to question former congressional aide Kyle Parker, who drafted a series of sanctions known as the Magnitsky Act, which Browder lobbied for.

Well that's the treaty, isn't it? If we are requesting the interviewing of Russian citizens, they are allowed to do it back. These have been the terms since the 90s, if I'm not mistaken.

So.... fake outrage? How many times can someone shriek "traitorous" until it loses its effect? "Nazi" and "racist" already seem to be losing their efficacy, so I guess a new slur was needed.

We have no extradition treaty with Russia. These are the only countries we have extradition treaties with:

How many times can people be wrong, ignorant, and ill-informed yet continue to speak on things they didn't take 10 seconds to Google before opening their mouths.

I’ve read a number of versions of this story from multiple sites, and all I can say is:

Get him out.

Helsinki was the initial descent; this is the death spiral.

I’m all for improved relationships with Russia, but Trump is proving to be a complete nincompoop, and this is making Hillary’s Russian reset look like a masterstroke (which I struggled to type).

Putin is angling for an extradition treaty between the U.S. and Russia, and it’s laughable to think we’re even 1/50th of the way there.

The hill is fake news.

edit: to be more clear, and you can do this will all of the main stream media, look whats actually in quotes and whats not, whats not in quotes didn't actually happen. I suggest everyone always look at the source which doesn't require any of the media.

I was referring to the second part regarding outrage

There should be outrage, as I quoted above Putin wants to interview a congressional aide who only drafted sanctions against Russia. In a country where a lawyer who worked with one of his colleagues ended up mysteriously dead just from being in Russian custody. The outrage is VERY well deserved. Every American should be outraged.

Two things:
1. If you watched the video from yesterday you don't need to differentiate between what was in quotes and wasn't. You can watch him actually say everything.
2. If you're going to say that you need to see things verbatim before you have an opinion on it...
Outraged like when Seth Rich was murdered for giving wikileaks the DNC emails?
...maybe don't post conspiracy theories which you have no actual evidence to back up. Quotes or not.

Speaking of 10 second google searches...

Shriek louder. It's much funnier to watch all this proceed in a very boring and predictable way while folks continue to say "the sky is falling" for nearly 2 years now.

An utter bullshit story that Fox and Hannity dropped because they knew they had been snookered.
The Seth Rich stuff happened long before the main stream media reported on it. Wikileaks said it was him and Donna Brazille donated her book to him. I thought everyone knew this.

Yeah, why? Was I missing something? Seemed like a standard explanation for the transfer of 'persons in custody'.

‘’If the person consents and both parties agree” stood out to me. It seems like an easy way for both countries, and the person, to politely say “fuck off.” I’m speaking strictly in terms of extradition by it’s classic definition, by the way (to avoid misinterpretation).

Disclaimer: I’m not an expert on this treaty (and thanks for posting, by the way), nor have I ever been involved in something like this...thank god.

I've worked long enough in customer service to know that's just boilerplate c.y.a.

What it means is that -- under the terms of the treaty -- neither party can be forced to swap persons. It has to be mutually agreed, but it avoids rigid extradition laws. That's my understanding, at least. I dunno. I'm open to wiser interpretation. It's all so interesting to learn about.

I didn't know about that. She donated the proceeds of her book to his family ? Or do you mean she dedicated her book to him ?
Also Kim Dotcom says he knows for a fact Seth Rich was wikileaks source. I presume because Rich was using megauploads to distribute the data. Also the retire police detective who was initially investigating the murder said his FBI contacts told him they found forensic information on Seth's computer that indicates he had been in contact with Wikileaks. Also an article a few weeks ago came out that talked about how Julian Assange had been in contact with some high level govt officials, Congressmen and Senators (people of that level), offering to reveal what he knew about the DNC leaks, and James Comey shut it down.

He's learning on the job. We all knew he had no foreign policy experience, or government experience, etc. Bumps in the road will continue, but we will all be all right.
