Gran Turismo Sport - July Update 1.23 in detail

Everything is not black or white.....This game has had so much free content. Many tracks, cars galore, game improvement updates, new options etc....As a GAAS GT, at some point they had to put in some paid content. Yet, in no way is that content exclusive only if you pay, you can get all the cars by playing the game just as you did before and it's not even like you can purchase the best cars in the game and just win either, it's totally different in that way.

Kaz on GTS DLC...

While there are many car enthusiasts young and old among Gran Turismo’s players, there are many who don’t have enough time to play and save the in-game credits needed to acquire their favorite cars. By making cars immediately available to purchase as DLC, we hope to make it so that players busy with work (or those who’ve just entered the world of GT) can acquire attractive and competitive cars quickly, and take their position on the starting grid.

However, to keep things fair and balanced for our existing players, all cars can still be purchased with in-game credits as before; there are no cars that are only available for cash, and nothing will change in the way you currently earn cars, or the present car system.

Furthermore, GT Sport’s priciest vehicles can only be bought with the in-game currency – meaning drivers will still have to prove their ability and effort out on the track to acquire the very best cars on offer.

At some point there had to be paid content in this game (a GAAS game or platform at that), how do we expect for them to keep on delivering us free content (tracks, cars, options), which is rare for such games, if they don't try to recoup some money in return.

I mean PD didn't even have to go back and do a campaign, they said GTS wasn't that game, but they went back and pushed SP content for all those with pitchforks etc...That's time and money, which they all gave for free, even outside their original version for the title. We just have to be more reasonable in our deliberations and argue with all details present when we do....With the current monetization, you can't purchase cars upwards of 2 million credits, so the fastest cars at 20 mil can't just be bought off the PSN store, you have to play the game to get those or you could just play the game and never buy any DLC ever and never be locked out of any content (2mil or 20 mil).

The current DLC does not affect the core balance of the game, at all. That is the argument, pure and simple......It's a GAAS Game/platform which PD intends to keep on expanding till 2020 and beyond, how did we expect them to just give everything for free for all those years without no way of gaining some money back...I mean come on......With so many studios closing at that, what world do some of us live in...Gamers are not entitled to every wish, whim or fancy, if this happened, this industry would implode unto itself...

That's not the problem. The problem was that when asked by a fan if GTS would have MT's, Yamauchi said there would not be any only for that promise to be broken. We would not have an issue with it now if he said something along the lines of "There will be MT's, but they won't turn GTS into a PTW game" from the start.

But you are constantly talking down about MS games being a "haven" for microtransactions and pushing GAAS. Now that sony is doing it, it's just the bees knees, right? Rotfl. Never change, TLW.

Just purchased my first car for $2.99 (worth 1 million in-game credits). The Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo. Was worth it!

Assuming you're able to access the Professional League:
  1. Buy this car, if you haven't been gifted it already: http://gran-turismo.wikia.com/wiki/KTM_X-BOW_R_'12 - it's 100,000 credits so not too expensive if you don't have it. Adjust the tires to be a bit softer if you prefer.
  2. In the Professional League, go to "Premium Sports Lounge" and enter the first race, i.e. "Blue Moon Bay Speedway"
  3. Drive forward and turn left for a little over 10 minutes
  4. Assuming you don't completely suck, that was an easy win - congratulations, you just got 200,000 credits, 300,000 if you managed to avoid collisions with other cars
So you can earn those credits by driving in less than an hour.

I'm not against DLC btw, you have an option to buy it or not. Rather, I'm against how some MTX's are implemented in some games, how intrusive they can be to the core balance of the game. That's why you never heard me complain about the character passes in SFV, because you can earn those characters by playing the game just the same....and purchasing all chars with in-game currency.

Fair enough, but plans can change. These interviews are always tough, because on the spot Kaz had to answer a translated question and for 8 months there has been no DLC. Remember, he answered those questions prior to launch too, knowing that there would be no MTX at launch and a good while after....and who knows, if he ever had plans to do so at the time of asking....

Yet, when those questions were posed, I think Kaz was thinking in line of (buying in game credit like you could in GT6) or buying the best cars the game had to offer on PSN and just winning. These translated questions/answers are the hardest to gauge for (context), btw...

Your attitude would not be the same if the situation was flipped and we were talking about Forza 7. If Forza 7 didn't have anything in the beginning and then broke their promise you'd be all over it. This is why your input in invalid when talking about any exclusive PlayStation or exclusive Xbox title because your bias is overwhelming. So it seems like the only people who actually care what you think are pro PlayStation fans like yourself. I played Forza 7 for roughly 40 hours and it was no more of a grind than any Gran Turismo title from the past. The difference with GT Sport is it had so little content in the beginning and now they are slowly introducing MTX's. Again if this was Forza 7 doing the same thing your attitude would have been totally different.

Maybe Sony should release a new GT game with loot boxes and then patch them out later. Maybe then they would get praised as pro-consumer. Worked for Microsoft...

Microsoft = Realises mistake, lets fix that and take it from the game for you guys then. No future Forza will have them.

Sony = See the heat Microsoft are copping, We will never have micro-transactions in GT! Just kidding fuck you guys.

Sounds like E3, constant online shit all over again. And here we are with a constant online required game released by Sony, it's like poetry.

As a long time fan i'm really afraid for the future of this series and if i'll ever want to play it again. This focus on online and e-sports mentality mixed with microtransactions isn't for me. I think GT5 was the final pit stop for me (that i really enjoyed)

The question is, does the dlc affect the core game and progression? NO. Is it anything intrusive like loot crates, NO. The dlc affects nothing. It does not affect the person who never buys a piece of dlc.....That's the difference. So should I be enraged about this? Why?

So MS is pretty much doing 180's on everything since 2013. Loot crates are so intertwined in their game, it will take months upon months from the last update to get rid of it all...Sony on the other hand, has given so many free cars, tracks and improvements for 8 months straight and will continue to do so.

Guys are buying GTS for $20 now on sales, yet, with all these GTS updates for 8 months, which requires development time and resources, PD has to start making some extra money on GTS.... At least they're not segregating the base and implementing an intrusive MTX formula to do so, and yet, we will continue to get free content up till 2020. We can't have it all. Development costs money.

The most annoying DLC I've ever encountered in a racing game was in Dirt 3, where the DLC cars were advertised in the menus and at some point most of the cars for some event were DLC cars. Stopped playing right there, was just too annoying.

Main reason I don't play GTS is because I don't want to buy a new wheel for the PS4, since my G27 is not compatible.

Get GTS on sale and buy yourself one of these

Lets you use older incompatible wheels on PS4 games.

I've never touched the online. There is plenty to do as a solo player.

Oh, could you bring a counterpoint? It all seemed very positive about the game, can you tell about the negative in regards to the previous titles? I loved GT 1, 2, 3 and 4. Never played 5 or 6, so I might just buy them instead if it's got not a good enough single player draw and a nice sense of customization and progression.

Ohh believe me I'm NOT defending GT here, that's not why I posted. It's just tiring seeing this same old retarded cycle where simple thread goes off topic.

Forza dominates in every aspect, it's not even debatable or up for discussion..plus, a major FH4 storm is incoming 😎

I know they have gradually added some SP content but i still hate the fact that they treated such a major component of the series like an afterthought. And it's still nowhere even near the content of past main GT games. And i also don't like that you have to be online in order to save your game or (FFS) use the photo mode.
I just don't want to congratulate and approve (with my money) a move like that. And not because of the money since you can get the game for very cheap these days but because it will be like saying to them "oh go on please do the same with GT7 as well."

That actually works with wheels? I've read of some homebrew solutions before that required quite substantial amount of tinkering.

Yeah it works with wheels too. Never tried it myself but everyone who uses a g27 has been telling me about it.

You have to be online in order to save your game. At least that was the case before.I don't know if they have changed that.

I was playing last night after the latest update and you still need to be online to save your game

Can you play offline and still progress through the game?
You don´t have to play online races to be able to unlock all the content in the game cause you earn GT Currency with everything you do in the game even in the tutorials or solo races, but you earn more in the SP Campaign

As i was afraid. :/

Which has me thinking: what happens when the servers go down? will we not be able to progress the SP due to its save system requirements? or not be able to use the photo mode?

So you can buy the cars or grind out the game to get them, doesn't this sound oddly familiar? I am thinking Starwars Battlefront 2. again you could get everything from playing the game but could buy stuff to get it quicker

Yes, that's how mobile games work. You can grind an absurd amount of time to get things or pay for them.

I didnt realize that you needed to be online to save...
GT usually shuts down servers in 3-4 years, so by 2020-2021 the game will not be accessible for the most part....

Have you guys played GTS, you don't have to do any absurd grind to buy cars, besides, you get free cars everyday by doing the daily workout and completing most races or events. Cars below 2 million are pie to buy and most probably you already got them in a daily.......I'm just racking endless points doing track/mission experience and you can get credits on pretty much every mode...

So which is it?" GTS does not have the 1100+ cars GT5 had to grind, it has way less, you hardly have to buy cars as you get them everyday just playing the game, doing any old event....If playing the game where cars and credits just roll in like skittles on a rainbow... is a grind, then what is actually playing the game then? On the flip, if you're only buying cars at 0.99 to 1.99 to fill up a garage, where you will never drive them, what's the point from a gaming perspective. Yet, if you want to do that as a gesture to PD's current support of the game or if it is that you are simply a collector who wants to spend your cash, I guess both parties win. Still nothing is intrusive to anybody, everybody wins...no one loses here...

Pretty close to what Forza has had for a while and is being taken out because of how it was judged. To each his own, I guess.

The possibility of PS4 BC on the PS5 and the fact that GTS has a different focus from the traditional GT game may suggest that the server support will be longer. All speculation, of course, but the servers supposedly shutting down in 3-4 years is not clear cut.

Loot creates, which were never available to buy with real money anyways.
https://m.windowscentral.com/forza-...es-wont-introduce-paid-tokens-forza-horizon-4

Seems Sony is not only adding them but monetizing them as well, taking it a step further.

I'm confused, it doesn't say anywhere that Sony is adding loot crate's, but optional purchases of cars you can earn already in the game with little effort compared to gatcha mobile games. Not unlike Forza already.

I suppose it's up for interpretation. Forza car packs are DLC add ons for cars not available in the base game, which has a ridiculous amount to earn for free anyways. GTS is adding ways to pay with real money for in game content that you already own. I see that as a loot box and forza as dlc.

It appears to be an option (for a quicker unlock or throwing some change in support of all the free content) because they already give you it all in free DLC. Nothing in the game is behind a paywall that doesn't already exist for free.

A loot box is a random "gambling" generator (hence all the backlash), this is piecemeal.

I see this as a far better method for gamers vs. locking the content behind a paywall 100%. But to each their own I guess.

I'd be inclined to agree if GTS weren't essentially an early access game where the "free DLC" was more about making the game whole than adding new content.

And who isn't doing this besides Nintendo?

I think you're slightly shifting the goalposts here now.

It's been happening all gen it is super obvious their is no need to keep deflecting this well known fact.

Wow gee great detective work, I will admit I hate Sony and Sony fans in particular, can Sony fans admit the same and let's just drop the charade? All gen Sony fans make excuses for behaviour they would and have bashed other console makers of doing.

Hate is a pretty strong word for someone who owns a different plastic box than your plastic box.
