I'm sad that there never was The Godfather 3 game

Are there fans of The Godfather games here? They did games based on the first two movies and they are really good. They are GTA like open-world games with one of the best melee combat systems ever in my opinion. You used the right analog stick to do different kinds of attacks and you could even grab the enemy. I'm sad that they never made The Godfather 3 game. They could have improved the gameplay more. It was fun to take over the rackets and follow the story. Someone should at least make similar melee system for some other game. It was the best part of these games.

Rumor has it they are staying true to the film adaptations and will be releasing it 16 years after Godfather 2: The Game (2009).

2025 may already have it's GoTY

Melee might have been decent, but for me first Godfather game was unbelieveable let down. Came out 3 years after Mafia and looked utterly embarassingly bad compared to it.

I played through The Godfather: Blackhand Edition on the Wii of all systems to pick and I ended up liking it a lot. The motion-control wasn't intrusive and the pointer-aiming was pretty well done.

I loved the first Godfather game. The five families in the various neighborhoods was such an interesting fit for the game world. Even though the graphics were lackluster, the five families felt real and they made sense on the map.

The second game didn't have the five families and the maps were not particularly memorable. Going through the various businesses felt like a chore.

I would love to see another game that brings back the five families - with a high level of competition and interaction among them. In a similar vein, I have always felt that a Sopranos game based on the various Sopranos families (DiMeo vs. Lupertazzi, etc.) would be amazing. The Sopranos fictional crime families were very well developed. It would be an amazing game (and they have so much dialogue to draw upon from the original series).

I totally agree. I loved both godfather games. They did a great job with making your character fit into the story of movies. I believe it was also the last work performed by Marlon Brando before his passing as well.

Godfather 1 is unfairly underrated and forgotten imo. Godfather 2 was fun, but I never finished it, I vaguely remember my locations getting attacked all the time was very annoying. I’d play a new game, but I won’t hold my breath that one will come out.

I still own both and have been meaning to go back and play the first one again.

I loved the first one. Played so much on my PS2... But I didn't know that it was a second one haha

Anyone here ever play The Sopranos on PS2?

I heard it was average, but I bought it for really cheap and kept it in the shrink wrap because it was rare around these parts (or seemed so).

Anyone enjoy it?

I'm okay with leaving it where it's at because 2, while good, didn't live up to the near-perfection of 1. It just captured New York and the look and music of the film so well, not to mention having so many of the original actors, and allowing them to flesh out some of the content from the book. I think 3 would have had the same problems as 2, where a lot of the film takes place outside of New York, so you'd have a tough time capturing that same cohesive experience of taking over a single city, like you did in the first game, to earn that final cutscene of all the top gangsters in the City coming to a meeting where you take your place at the head of the table.

They also deserve a lot of credit for how great the motion controls were done, not just on Wii, but even on PS3 as well. Grabbing someone with the shoulder buttons and swinging them around with the Sixaxis, or pulling them back and then throwing it forward to toss them off a rooftop was amazing. And also grabbing the shoulder buttons and pressing in the sticks to strangle someone, as the vibration slowly dissipates with their pulse... as sick as that sounds. Not only was the original version great, but we got even better re-releases on newer consoles with bonus content that made the experience even better. I think the only remaining evolution would be a Shadow of Mordor-like Nemesis system, where the five families continually grappled for control to retake rackets, or to carry out their own heists and compound assaults, which you could defend or even intervene.

I got curious and looked it up. I had no idea that EA Redwood Shores (the precursor to Visceral Games) made The Godfather! How interesting.

I never knew that. Makes it even more sad that they were shut down. Dead Space 1 will always have a special place in my heart. I just looked them up and also really enjoyed their LOTR games as a kid. It's too bad.

Pretty much this.
It didnt get any good reviews back in the day. Part 2 sold worse which is why part 3 never came into fruition.

I do vaguely remember playing them both and thinking the second one on the xbox 360 was really good.. Or was it the first....

Mafia 2 was an excellent mafia type game imo, much better than what I've played of the 3rd. I couldn't get into the first one at all after GTA3 and vice City on PS2.

Mafia 2 is indeed excellent and way underrated.

It's one of the most "mature" games I've ever played and I mean mature as in it feels like an actual game for adults, not teenagers.

I prefer how the city was there just to tell the story and the focus was purely on that and not having to run round doing side missions I've done in to many games already and gets boring very quickly. The "let it snow" part was excellent aswell at the start of the game and one of my most fondest game moments.

Yes, it was interesting to just have the city be the stage for the game to take place in but not something you're supposed to pay much attention to in itself.

Although it was still fun to just cruise around.

The game was great but I agree that the graphics didn't look very good. They did release it on Xbox 360 and PS3 that made made it look a little bit better. Those versions also had some gameplay improvements and few extra missions. I played the game on both PS2 and 360.

Yeah the first game was better. I liked the 1940s New York atmosphere and the city was more interesting.

I loved the first one on the Wii despite not liking the movies that much. It was such a breath of fresh air after how boring and restrictive GTA had become. It was just so much more fun to be a crazy SOB and the story was also more interesting to boot. Easily one of my top 5 sandbox/open world games.

Why would there be a third game when there wasn't a 3rd movie?

Mafia II was great. One of my favorite games. Mafia III is a little bit similar to Godfather games. You take over rackets and the whole districts but its not exactly the same. I wish it would have been ever more similar.

I am a huge fan of the Sopranos and watched every episode. I also love organized crime video games.

This said - I would advise you to leave the Sopranos game in the shrink wrap. It's just an abysmal game ,and there is nothing enjoyable or even notable about the gameplay.

And, there is no plot/story to the game at all, which is inexcusable given how much material they had to work with from the show.

Haha, I always suspected as much. Thanks for the heads up. I might just watch a clip on Youtube.

Man, what a missed opportunity working with such a great license. I’m going to look up the developer now.
