I'm telling you, Playground Games will turn out to be Microsoft's ace, ahead of 343 or Coalition.

I think they already are. They consistently and efficiently turn out high-quality games on time, to great reviews and positive gamer impressions, accompanied by good or great sales figures. They are definitely MS's most talented studio.

Well, true. Horizon 3 was by far the best MS published game this gen to be honest, so I think they might've already earned that spot.

Yeah, I think so. I don't even like racing games, and I'm very impressed by them. I'm very happy that they have been entrusted with the Fable franchise. I enjoyed those games on the Xbox and 360, and I hope to see Fable given the reboot it deserves. I'm pretty sure Playground is going to go all-out to make it as good as they can. Based on their previous work, there's every reason to be hopeful.

I think MS has good teams, simply that a team is only as good as the publisher allows their content to freely be. So if forced to do Forza, Halo, Gears combo, I'm sure the games are not bad, but its hard to get the most out of a team if their just forcing them to do the same IPs over and over and over.

So I'm actually hoping its not Fable, let the team make a new damn IP and they'll have my attention.

Yeah. Coalition and 343 are riding the coattails of Halo and Gears success while Playground beat Turn10.

Hopefully, they can make their second team successful too. I wonder if they retained the best out of Lionhead.

Big fan of Playground, especially as an Australian (was nice to see Aus in a game in all it's beauty). I'm super hopeful that their next game is Fable IV as the Fable series is one of my all time favourites and I think that Playground has the talent to make a Fable game finally live up to it's potential.

I wouldn't be super sad though if it's a new IP though, theres too few new IP's in AAA develpment these days.

Word around Playground Games Plans To Grow To 400 Employees. They posted in LinkedIn over 100 jobs and if you go to their website they posted even more. Word is they want to create three studio division: 1. Forza Horizon Studio 2. Open World RPG Studio (Next Gen Fable) 3. New IP Studio (Unknown)

Here we go. Forza Universe. Open world, you start out as lowly fan watching a derby race in the stands and decide you want to become a race car driver. Sunshine, smell of Mary Jane about the crowd, the roar of engines likes angry tigers ripping the air to shreds. Kinda like the way you play guitar, if you could afford one. Soon, a storm arrives which turns to a horrific deluge during the last few laps. Lighting strikes the Number 7 car, you're lucky number. It's a sign from the gods.

You walk down (or tumble if you've too many beers) the stairs (all proper physics like in that GTA game) and stumble through the trash-pocalypse parking lot to your p.o.s beater 4-speed. You leave a mean skid mark although maybe a few bearings behind. Through ghetto and high water, back alleys, and speed bumps the way back home. A flat tire soon curses the way which you have to fix, complete with proper jack placement in poor visibility as well as vagrants rustling for spare change. You stop at the corner store down the street from your trailer and grab the last newspaper paper with the last 60 cents you have (game takes place in the early 70's). A street racing contest flyer mysteriously tucked into the paper falls to your flip flop-laden feet. There is no turning back.

Assuming their next game after FH4 is Fable, we should have a contest to see who can find the first Forza Horizon easter egg in it. You know there's gonna be one.

This is great and well deserved. Playground has proven to be reliable and their games are equal parts fun and technically proficient.

Microsoft doubling down on their first party is getting the next-gen off on the right foot.

Crazy. Suggests a fairly big project. But not as sure as others that it’s Fable. Either way I’m excited. These guys are wizards. They definitely deserve the shot.

Interesting development.

Speaking about UK devs, I noticed TheChineseRoom are hiring too. Much, much, much smaller but they were recently acquired by Sumo (the team who made Sanic racing).

Good! Hopefully for something that is not a racing game, I plan to buy both consoles next gen (ms/Sony).

Yeah I'm pretty sure I applied for a job there and didn't get an interview.

If I remember rightly, they mentioned they've been given reign over a new IP.

I don't think going forward you can expect Microsoft to make a big open-world game in the style of Legend of Zelda: BOTW. Everything going forward is GAAS(game as a service) filled with microtransactions and piece-meal content updates.(see Sea of Thieves). I hate this model, but that's what the market seems to be going for.

After how poorly your last attempt to troll went in this thread, I expected you to go hide in a hole for the rest of the day. Appears we were only able to rid ourselves of your presence for a few minutes. Disappointing but I think we will all take what we can get.

I know that it makes you angry having to admit that Microsoft won't build the game of your dreams. At least you're on the path towards acceptance.

You mean like how most of their recent multiplayer games like Forza Horizon 4, State of Decay 2, Sea of Theives and Crackdown 3 have none or almost non-existent MTX.
I hate these kinds of posts which rely on speculative wishful thinking of one company acting like comic villains so their favourite corporate overload can succeed.
Zelda is not a RPG and they have stated that they are working on a single player open world RPG(Phil even confirmed it doing E3 2018). Fable wanted have the CRPG feel of your choices having consequences and the world reacting to your actions, but it failed. Playground Games will deliver on that. This is also why they bought Obsidian and InXile, to make those kinds of games with a AAA budget.
Also, if all Microsoft games are multiplayer only, then what about Ninja Theory and Initiative. They have job offerings recruiting for AAA single player projects. Then theirs 343i's Halo series which has its own single player story.
All these studios are expanding and hiring for single player games.

I know it makes you angry to admit, Microsoft will not perfectly act like B-Grade movie villain for your sake. Well, you can atleast act like that inside your head.

I feel like PG working on Fable might be the worst-kept secret in gaming. What makes you guys think it's something else?

I'm not opposed. Like Fable, but I'd be cool with something fresh as well.

I dont think its Fable either. To me it would make much more sense to give Fable to Obsidian.
They have much better IPs like Shadowrun, Earthdawn and Renegade Legion: Legionnaire from FASA, Pillars of Eternity and Outer Worlds (we will see how it turns out) from Obsidian and Wasteland, Bards Tale and Torment from InXile. Heck, they can even make their own IPs like the Darklands based historical RPG that Josh Sawyer wants to make.

It may well end up that it is Fable, but there actually hasnt been any leaks or anyhting, its just pure speculation in the fact that Playground announced they were making an RPG, and they are British, and everone put 2 and 2 together.
Like i said, Obsidian are RPG guys, nad some of their RPG's are similar in style to Fable. For me it would make more sense to get Obsidian to do it.

It definitely is inspired from Fable, but it is not Fable(more of a spritual successor).

So not just dense and rude but cowardly to boot?

Well I guess if one is going to do anything they ought do it well. Bravo sir. Bravo. 👏
