I’m coming into Overlord cold as I don’t do manga or j-novels. So I expected something like a reverse Sword Art or Log Horizon.

What I found was something in ways better. The first and second seasons really made me like Ains and start to like his murderous troops. In season 3 this show has taken me off the rails. I’ve loved almost every character in S3 yet I can’t stop appreciating the evil that is spilling out as well hoping it’s going to tie into something big.

So honestly I don’t get what you are saying. Maybe it’s because you came into it with completely different expectations.

I quite like the characters and what's happening actually. It's the writing and how most of the stuff itself is really just going through the motions rather than trying to make each into their own memorable thing that I have a problem with. With a few adjustments to how certain things occur, the same point could be conveyed but it'd be shown to us rather than told. There's a lot of examples thus far but a pretty easy one would be with Sebas in Season 2

Sebas takes on the Six Arms or whatever while trying to rescue Tuare. Their encounter ends up finishing so quickly that those folks end up just looking like a bunch of mooks. If it weren't for their introduction, we wouldn't know any better at all. The novel version of this encounter handles it by giving a brief description of their abilities and some exploits, as I recall. So we find out that they're supposed to be powerful for New World characters which further enhances Sebas' overwhelming power compared to them. The actual encounter is also slightly different as one guy gets to make an attack, I think.

If the scene was changed a little bit so that Sebas says he'll give them a minute to go all out while he just dodges or stands there deflecting attacks then we as the viewer could see a demonstration of the abilities of the 4 to see what the New World could do before Sebas just ends them instantly. It would also give more time to Solution and the others in the building to do their job.

The above spoiler conveys the very same thing the author is doing but the information is built into the encounter itself so we're able to see it. It's more engaging as a result.

I feel like Overlord the anime is built specifically for people that read the manga/Lnovels/whatever. There are so many weird skips around in the story and characters with little to no introduction, everything feels so abbreviated. It's been really tough to follow as someone that only watches the show. I really liked the first season and a bit into the 2nd season, but everything else has been a confusing mess with fun little sub-stories. I keep reading that I need to read the novels to understand this stuff, but shouldn't the show be able to stand on its own?

Pretty much. What I talked about in my previous posts is what I think is the cause of it, basically. A lot of content could be reworked for the anime to make it better fit the medium but a lot of folks would probably complain about it diverging from source material and be even more it about reading the novels.

I recently read through all of Doctor Stone, and enjoyed it. I also caught up with Kimetsu no Yaiba, and I also liked it, but it wa wasn't as enjoyable as other shonen.

Any recent manga with a decent amount of chapters you guys could suggest? I was probably going to read Promised Neverland next.

Promised neverland is definitely a good read so go for it!

I re-read eyeshield21 this month, I love these type of sport manga.
Anyone read Fire punch? I've heard good things but haven't got into it yet.

I read a few volumes and ended up dropping it.
Neither the story, nor the characters and action are very compelling and the world has some interesting concept but was dark in an edgy way I didn't like

Hinomaru Sumo

great Shounen Sport Anime with a unusual Sport. If you like Shounen Sport Animes this one seems really nice. Also unlike many others this guy is not beginner at Sumo.

Funny enough as much as I don't like romance animes, its been the only romance anime I could ever watch. I almost liked darling in the franxx also, but the ending parts were so bad.

I guess Magus takes things more serious then other animes, I can't stand all the highschool romance animes, which theres like 10 million of them, and they always have the same plot devices, girl late for school, runs out of house with a piece of bread in her mouth, trips and falls on guy, acts like a ditz, friends with everyone, and every other cliche thats been done before a million times. I guess thats why I liked Magus more.

Figures they would make a anime about Sumo, since Sumo has been become a dying sport in Japan.

Jojo part 5 is going to be meme city

Goblin Slayer seems interesting but I also do not know how to top this episode. This was a total different look for an "adventure series" Some people may have a hard time watching this. Its pretty dark. More like Berserk

I'm looking forward to the ANN posts complaining and whining about the content. Hell, if we're lucky we will end up with another twitter freak out like with 'Darling in the Franxx'

There's only a few rape parts from what I remember. Still expect more edge either way.

The first episode sets the tone but the content won't be at the same level for the entire show. The gore-y parts are pretty standard but the other explicit stuff isn't nearly as prominent as people are making it out to be, even within the manga adaptation.

Seems like giorno's stand isn't that powerful, he has to completely outsmart his foes in this one. From what I read also, Jojo Part 5 has a lot more action then part 4.

He nearly beat a dude that has had years of practice with a stand that isn't as forward as others. Its OP hes just not there yet. Its extremely adaptable and so GioGio. Reminds of a reverse Okuyasu. His stand is also powerful but he's a kinda of a tard that never used it properly lol.

So I just watched the 2nd episode of "hinomaru zumou" the sumo anime.

Now I'd been reading the manga before.

However the anime is taking a sudden swerve and I don't know how to perceive it... in the manga they train themselves and grow as a unit and friendships grow naturally... the anime, 2 episodes in, brings in a guy who is just going to work out all that stuff for them... a little odd. I'll have to see how it all plays out.

I remember in part 3 jojo, if he punched someone they were going down. Part 4 Jojo also would punch someone and that would be it also. It seems like giorno stand doesn't do as much damage as theirs. He has to rely on like tricks and using his smarts more.

You'll see in about 6 months or so?

That scene in the first episode of Goblin Slayer really fucked with me. Jesus christ that was brutal.
They up'd the scene. Wasn't ass bad in the manga. Complete opposite of he Gate anime. Where the grittiest scenes were entirely censored and it came out as comedic.
