Bushiden - A Futuristic, Ninja Action Platformer (PC, PS4, Switch)

There are just two days left to go for this kickstarter and it's currently only $3k short of it's $70k target. The spiel on the kickstarter describes it as:
"a Metroidvania-influenced action platformer set in a futuristic world where your greatest foe has been revived from the dead and is seeking revenge. The game combines melee combat with exploration elements spanning 8 separate, non-linear levels."

I don't have any connection to the game, creator, or kickstarter whatsoever, and all my info comes from the kickstarter itself. I just thought there might be some people here that would be interested. It's so close to being funded, and any little extra might be enough to push it over the line.

To be honest, I haven't even decided whether or not to back it myself. The graphics, sound and gameplay (insomuch as it's possible to tell from a few clips) all seem great, and it seems like the kind of high-quality project that would have been funded much quicker if it had been requesting funding a couple of years ago. It's just that the indie market is so saturated nowadays that it's hard to make an impression. On the other hand, I grew up playing Shinobi games and am a sucker for both ninja games and pixel art, so I probably will back it. It kind of looks like a lost Neo Geo Ninja Gaiden game.

It's $20 for a digital copy and $45 for a physical Switch/PS4 copy (unfortunately, no Xbox One version has been announced)

Anyway, the choice to back or not is yours.

I loved Shinobi and Ninja Gaiden back in the day and this looks promising from what I can see, but physical is $45? I’m wondering if it comes with some extras or something. I’ll keep an eye out for this.

2 days left, ouch. It does look nice but I'm kinda burnt out on these types of games.

edit: hey, it's at $68,000 now. I totally misread it as needing 67,000.

Fuck off.

I have mixed feelings about the non-linearity of the levels too, haha. It seems that linear games are really out of fashion at the moment. If it's 3D then it has to be open world, and if it's 2D then it needs to be a metroidvania. What's wrong with good old-fashioned, well designed linear levels eh?

I finally decided to back it. They have a stretch goal to include cinematics at $80k, but, barring a late spurt, I don't see them reaching that.

For those more into 16 bit pixel games of the Zelda kind, I just noticed this kickstarter too. This one has over 30 days to run and is already almost half funded. I've never been much of a Zelda fan, so I'm probably going to give it a miss. It looks gorgeous though!

Looks pretty good. Doesn't hype me enough to give them money but I'd check it out of it ends up being made

They are tough to make.

Better to just not design any levels and throw a randomizer in there.

It's "indie" game design 101. They learn it in the homeless shelter.

Looks like a well designed Link to the Past clone

That's another sick burn against XBox.

From the tweet below, it sounds like an Xbox version will be coming at a later date. It's only a 3 person development team and, if iirc, they didn't even have a Switch version planned initially.

The end result is $84,382, which means the cinematic cut-scenes are in. It has an estimated delivery date of August 2020, but adding in the usual kickstarter delays, I'm not expecting anything until 2021.
