This thread isn't about the year 2012 of the 360 gen or the first few years of the PS3. This is a thread asking that when you look at the 360 and PS3 from LAUNCH 2005-2006 till their discontinuation, which of the two did you like more OVERALL. Considering ALL the good times and the bad times you had with each console and all the games you played from start to finish which of the two do you like more OVERALL. This isn't just about part of either consoles life, it's what your overall conclusion was on either of these consoles.

That goes from Kinect to PSN hackings and everything in-between.

This makes things a bit more interesting as we are focusing on each consoles entire library and features, the good and the bad.

PS3. That´s because I have never seen any point with Xbox since it delivers almost the same experience. I also favor japanese games before western and Sony has overall much better exclusives. The main turnoff for me with the 360 was the red ring of death. Everyone I knew got one of those so I didn´t bother paying my hard earned money at a system that was going to fail somewhere down the line. I also didn´t care much for Gears of War or Halo, two franchises that bore me to death. For PS3, the highlight was the Uncharted-series but all of that took a serious nosedive when I got hooked on Demon´s Souls. That game changed my taste in gaming forever.

PS3, although I mostly played on DS and PSP. Wii was good, too. I owned a 360 but it broke on me. Twice. Owned it long enough to beat a few games like Mass Effect and Gears of War but not much else. I sold it and bought a PS3 with MGS4. Never looked back. Now I own a 360 just for Halo and a few shmups. I think I have 70 or 80 games in my PS3 collection.

360, had most of the games I wanted and 3rd party stuff generally running better 9/10 times was a nice bonus plus I preferred the interface . Things like updates where handled better and lack of mandatory installs was nice too.
Also I liked how multiple Xbox accounts could sign in on the one machine for splitscreen.

360, Halo, Gears etc where so mammoth I don't see anything coming near them again in terms of exclusive online fun multiplayer. Those where the years in high school of constant Halo matches nightly. Halo felt so big at the time.

Better 3rd party games.
Better controller.
Better online.
No stolen personal information.

Downsides, the RRoD but Microsoft get a free pass on this after replacing my console at no cost years after purchase, Sony on the other hand lost $1,000s and never got another PS3 game purchase out of me after my $1,000 console YLoD after just after 12 months and they wanted $400 to repair it. If I actually repaired this console I still have it, it's still no doubt running one of the first firmwares.

I actually bought 360 first because it had great games like Lost Odyssey and Tales of Vesperia and even single player western game like Alane Wake but they kind of just stopped and at some point I realized that I haven't touched my 360 for a very long time and was mostly playing my PS3 so I sold it. My answer is the first half I liked 360 but the rest I was mostly playing my PS3.

Honestly it's really close for me, 360 dominated the first half of the gen and PS3 the second half.

Voted 360 though.

Sounds similar to me and the turning point for 360 seemed to come around the time Kinect was coming out (2009-2010 iirc), after that I pretty much lost complete interest in what Microsoft was doing.

I did the reverse, voted PS3 overall. I ended up buying the Star Wars R2D2 360, between that themed console and games like Gears of War and Left 4 Dead were enough to push me over the edge and start enjoying Xbox games.

PS3 here, had the 360 since it launched first, but since online games make up such a small amount of my gaming it's games have always been a waste on me where Sony had/has such amazing single player games. 3rd party games are 3rd party games to me, slight better performance on 360 wasn't enough to make me not enjoy the same games on my PS3.

Sony's PS3 had really good momentum by the time the dust settled. The games, the hype, the PR, the branding. Even if the initial instability was bound to drag them, they had good foundations and were able to play the long game -- and oh, the toil devs went through to establish it. But it was still quite the post-launch spectacle. The hardware was just too riskily ambitious; too laughably priced. Ridge Racer fell on deaf ears. It looked dire, pre-Q3 '07. But devoted management and creative efficacy eventually ran it back.

The network hack will forever go down in infamy, though.

Preferred the PS3 but the 360 was great too

PS3 had demon souls, best game of last gen so it wins by default

Halo, Gears, Mass Effect, Lost Odissey, Tales of Vesperia, Alan Wake plus all the JRPG that came 1 or 2 years before than on PS3 plus all the multiplats. Xbox360 was the console to go throught 90% of the last generation, PS3 did an amazing final sprint tho with Uncharted 2 and 3 and TLOU.

Since Im not a big fan of story driven cinematic games the 360 is an easy choice for me. Loved Arcade. Better gamepad. The only thing I would really miss is LBP and Uncharted.

PS3. I played all the multiplats on PC (my primary platform, kb/m fan), and 360 didn't have a single exclusive I gave a damn about. And charged for online play. And for general online connectivity. A cancer to console gaming.
If I wasn't on PC maybe I'd go for 360. Alan Wake and Prey are two of my three favorite games, and couldn't be played on PS3.

Multiplats on PC and Exclusives on PS3. It was a comfy generation, even though Sony itself had a rather turbulent one. I had fun console warring before I hung the shield and sword up for greener pastures.

I probably go with the 360 since it's the system I've spent a lot of time with last gen. I've also had a ps3 and It was pretty good especially in the later years of its life.

I view PS3 more favorably, but only by the slimmest of margins and that's mostly because it performed better as a multimedia device - I abused its media streaming and Blu-Ray playback. I had my fair share of favorite games across both platforms and preferred their controllers for different types of games (360 for driving and FPS, DS3 for action/adventure). Had I been more interested in online play Xbox 360 would have easily taken the take.

360 for me. Microsoft really were guns blazing that gen. Still loved my ps3 for exclusives much the same this gen for me.

I owned both, though I bought a discounted 80 gig PS3 after they discontinued the backwards compatible ones so it a few years after my 360, which I bought day one. I've always preferred xbox's controller and never minded paying for online. Sony's network woes in that era was enough to make it worth it to me to just stay on Xbox. One thing that made me enjoy 360 more than PS3 was that Xbox kept some of my old favorites alive from the OG Xbox era (I did not own a ps2...I was more a Nintendo fan back then). Halo 2 and 3 blew my mind. Phantom Dust (the original, which is now on Xbox One) was kept alive. My taste in games are bit more...eclectic I guess you can say. Like I know it wasn't very popular and it ultimately failed...but Chromehounds (xbox 3rd party exclusive, FromSoftware) was a practice in sheer genius. The persistent war that For Honor does right now? Mech Assault 2 and Chromehounds did it first and better. Splinter Cell, another favorite franchise was exclusive on the 360. Perfect frickin Dark son...I'm getting nostalgic now...but yea...360 all the way man.

Sony did have some gems too though...the first Naruto Ultimate Storm...blew my mind. Metal Gear Solid 4...are you effin kidding me? Classic. Plus I didn't have a PS2, so Snake Eater was available to me too. Went back and bought all the final fantasies I had missed (10, 12, 13). Then....Demon Souls and Uncharted 2 dropping on the same date, I was in heaven. Heavenly Sword anybody? I mean come on. Sony was no slouch by any means, but 360 eeked it out for me.

Ok, this might be the dumbest question ever, but how do you vote on a poll? I only have 176 posts, so is it a post count requirement?

I can click the links to see who voted what, but how do I submit an answer to a poll?

I was tempted to say I was a Wii only gamer since 95% of my gaming time was on the Wii.

Anyway, the answer for me is X360 easily. Only PS3 games I really enjoyed were:

The Witch and the Hundred Knight
Valkyria Chronicles
Yakuza 4
Yakuza: Dead Souls
Tokyo Twilight Ghost Hunters
Arcana Heart 3/LM

X360 only had Dead Rising and Lost Odyssey as exclusives that I cared about but fighters and multiplats were pretty much all better on X360 so it ended up being my platform of choice for pretty much every non-Wii game.

I also preferred the controller despite the dpad.

I owned both. In fact, I owned the 360 twice. The first died to the red ring error in my college dorm room.

I vastly preferred the PS3. The online was free and the exclusives were more up my alley.

When the generation ended the PS3 got moved from the entertainment room into my bedroom. The 360 got sold.

PS3 was a huge disappointment. It ran multiplatform games like shit. It required installs for most physical games, leading us into the modern console gaming shitstorm of mandatory installs that we’re weathering now. It implemented a half-assed Trophy system two years late, which never had the same feel as the Achievement system of Microsoft’s that it aped.

Then there was the Great PSN Outage of 2011, which severely lessened the PS3’s functionality for weeks. Xbox LIVE, while not being immune to downtime, never saw an incident like this.

And then there was the elimination of PS2 backwards compatibility, which was a letdown considering that there were so many great PS2 games that ran on some units but not others.

Console exclusives were a positive, and free online play was another— but these failed to overcome the shit that ultimately made the PS3 the worst of Sony’s consoles and place it well behind Microsoft’s sophomore effort, in my book.

I only had wii but that sucked so I then bought the ps3 and 360. Ps3 was way better by far. The graphics were amazing among other stuff too.

360 had rrod and that scarred me to forever seeing the xbox brand as hit and miss. That has not changed even now. Also 360's last few years were a joke.

Early on, you got to hand it to MS. They got lots of timed deals, online was rock solid and a staple for how online gaming would be handled and clearly cheaper. PS3 cost more, online as shaky at first etc.

Long term, PS3 all the way. It may have cost more, but you didn't need several add ons for it to work correctly. Bluray in all units, Wifi in (most units as the 20gb I believe didn't have them for those first few months if I remember) online was free and got waaaaaaay better over time and the one king...SOFTWARE!

They focused in house and it paid off. The made QUALITY hardware, bluray, wifi etc and it paid off. Day 1 I'm sure it looks like doom with a more expensive device, but that device wasn't going thru RRODs, add ons after add ons etc. Sony choose a harder path, but it ultimately paid off as they had the quality hardware, tech that was ahead of its time and ultimately became the norm in future systems, ace first party exclusives.

So I like knowing I can buy a used PS3 for my parents and it plays Blurays, plays lots of other media formats and well......works. I have 5 PS3's in my family and yet to have any one of them die yet so...knock on wood lol

You need to be upgraded to member-status before you can vote. I don´t know when that happens, but keep posting and some of the mods will eventually promote you.

Ps3 felt so sterile, the games were good but the system with xmb just felt so bland. 360 there was always a sense of community, perhaps the ability to easily see what your friends were doing helped.

For much of the gen ps3 and online felt like an afterthought

Ok cool. Cheers. Thought there was a browser issue not letting me see poll options.

PS3, but I never touched the xbox 360, the RROD, paid online and lack of exclusives I cared about doesn't help the xbox IMO . And I had a pc that could play multiplats better.

360 in the beginning, then the RRoD, PS3 from there ('08) after. Mainly for MLB The Show, and the other exclusives were pretty good as well.

Personally PS3 all the way, so many exclusive gems came in that console, like Uncharted, The Last of Us, GoW 3, among others.

PS3 just shades it because of various PS2 and PS1 games added on top of the rest. Mildly tempted to pick up a slim to play Godhand again. Fuck knows what they're playing at with the PS4. Basically not putting old games on the store because of no trophy support.

They're almost equal because the PS3 started off poorly whereas the 360 started off strongly, but then the 360 started lose to steam while the PS3 slowly gained it.

I don't think there's a obvious winner overall, but I would give the edge to the 360 for Dead Rising alone and also being the better pick for multiplatform games.

i dont own a 360. but considering the 360 got many more games than the ps3 and the ports were superior. i think its overall the better console. if it had a blu ray instead. i would objectivly say its a better console.

I really enjoyed both but the shutting down of all the Microsoft studios and specifically Mattrick’s focus on Kinect really soured me on Xbox. Sony also has many more Japanese games.

I have gone back to Xbox with the firing of Matrick, abandonment of Kinect, backwards compatibility and reinvestment in studios as I like to support the North American industry and I think Phil Spencer has been a great leader of the gaming division.

PS3. Free online and backwards compatibility.

Haven’t bought a console since, probably never will now considering the direction consoles have taken and the available PC options.
