Pokémon: Let's Go Review Thread

Yeah, looks cute and it made it easy to name (Kokoro). Just remember the gender's decided in the opening, when Eevee first pops up on screen.
I got a female Eevee right off the bat, first try. Super happy about that as looking it up on IGN it seems there's only an 11.9%, but that's going from previous games gender ratios, I guess. No idea if it applies here.

So Sabrina’s gym is gated off at first. The requirement being you need a level 45 mon to enter it. Though datamine shows the highest level out of sabrina’s mon is level 44, with most of them being 43.

So you have to OVER LEVEL Sabrina to enter her gym.

Like wtf

I found the gym that asks for lvl 45 to enter. It is the Saffron City gym, the 4th gym. Clearly a bug. I was 7 levels below that with my highest pokemon when i got to that. Meh.

So I've been playing it since release...

Really enjoying it, even the "go" mechanics aren't bad in it either.

The docked mode catching mechanic seems really broken at the moment and they need to add pro controller support so you can play it like handheld mode.

It uses the catching of Pokemon to gain experience, so if you feel like your under powered, it's because your not catching enough Pokemon!

Also, loving the "take out of pokeball" option on all the pokemon too, having a pikachu follow you then having a magikarp following you makes it funny at times.

If you enjoyed the original games, blue or red or yellow, give it a go to say the least you may find yourself enjoying it and getting lost in the nostalgia of the game, remembering all the secrets and even new ones.

It's deffinately better than my expectations anyway!

Yeah, second try worked for me. I'd be surprised if it used the same gender ratio as wild Eevee; it'd probably be 50% for the starters.

Best pokemon since at least black and white 2. The mix of battles plus capture creates a very interesting pacing. It is now very fun to get into caves, and it's hilarious to be pursued by Ratikates and be forced to leap down.

The level design is awesome. Every level is a small puzzle, it's filled with trainers, rewards and many pathways. Since now there are no random encounters searching for every corner in a cave is super fun. There are the typical hard locks for skills unlike in the new ones where most of the times a cutscene prevents you to go forward until you follow the designer's desired path.

The fact that you can get perfect pokemon by chaining at any moment of the game and that every pokemon is candy for level up your stats makes it even more interesting at every moment. They took the most engaging part of pokemon go and placed it smoothly into a complete adventure. And a good one,

One of the things I disliked the most in previous pokemon games was that in order to get perfect pokemon you needed to finish the game first. Here it's available in every moment of the game so it's fun to find what rare pokemon you can find and chain them to find perfect or almost perfect stats. The game demands it with certain trainers that are above average which also provide cool rewards.

Also everything is one button away. No more stupid traveling from spot A to spot B to get your pokemon's checked or moving to a pokemon center to check your boxes. I loved this simplification.

Yet, what I don't like is the oversimplification of the combat. Items and abilities have been removed. They will probably come back in the future but they are not present. I accept some simplification because pokemon was getting way too complex (and complex doesn't always mean deeper), but they removed core features that made team building a huge part of the experience.

Im wondering how online battles are going to be, I wish it was more like gen 1 and didn't have dark and fairy moves. Normal is maybe the best type in this game since snorlax, chansey, and tauros were the best normal types in gen 1.

Do you have to catch the same monsters over and over in order to grind?

You can fight other trainers to get XP as well. It's very like in the main games but instead of "killing the same monsters over and over" you capture them because that's the core mechanic against wild pokemon.

But what if there are no trainers left and I just wanna grind in the wild? Do I have to capture the same pokemons over and over? Is that a thing in the game?

Yes, it's exactly like in red and blue, but instead of having to defeat the pokemon you capture it.

She is the 6th pokemon trainer for some reason even though you have access to her after you beat team rocket. The fight is reasonably hard but at the same time her levels of her pokemon are a little lower.

It’s an amazing game no one is saying that it isn’t...it’s just so devoid of challenge or problem solving that it’s insulting...
