Eiji Aonuma: “We know you guys are thinking about Skyward Sword for Switch, right?”

I liked Skyward Sword. Visuals aged horribly and kinda didn’t look too great then either. I could easily see controls remapped to the right stick also.

Unfortunate thing about skyward sword is that by the time I became competent with the controls... I had just beaten it.

There’s a lot about it that went into botw also. The jumping, the use of stamina meter... and unlike BotW it actually has dungeons.

And yea the story was one of the better ones for sure.

I doubt the water color look will work well in hd however. I wonder if it’ll look like botw. It could potentially look much better due to the smaller environments. HOpefully it’s not a half assed port but that’s what I expect.

I really dislike Skyward Sword's graphics and impressionistic artstyle. It's a blurred mess. Caused me to stop playing the game when it first came out.

It's not a meme, it's a real, legitimate pet peeve.
It's not about not being able to collect more swords or not getting why this system is in place, it's just that the concept iself of getting your weapon broken after only few hits is rather obnoxious for many people.
It's not obnoxious to those who'd rather scour the game for weapons instead of playing it, I suppose.

EDIT: The other thing I really don't like is that all the weapons (at least thus far) feel pretty same-y in damage inflicted and durability. Although I DID just find a cap that increases my climbing speed, so bully to that!

Does this game really have that many fans or is it just the next zelda game that needs an hd remaster? If you found a way to make this game playable without motion controller I'd maybe give it a shot. I did enjoy the music and art style I just didn't find it fun to play

Well clearly you were doing something wrong if you had to drop what you were doing to go hunting for weapons, I was so overloaded on weapons I remember throwing stuff away constantly to make room for better stuff.

I swear you could hold like 15 weapons at once, the weapon system complaints always baffled me.

I just checked and it's 8. You can upgrade the number of slots by getting seeds, though. So maybe the weapon thing sucks less as time goes on. That's good to know.

The high review scores for this game is why I can no longer take review scores of Nintendo first-party games seriously.

I say that about most games but this is one of the few that I felt deserved it. The first 20 hours made me feel like a kid again.

Edit: er, forgot what thread this was, referring to BotW.

SS would work well with the Joycons yeah but the world is disconnected and empty. Therefore garbage. Unless it's redesigned where the world is actually traversable and not the few odd zones it has then no it can go away.

The only 3D Zelda I never managed to beat because it was just so bad in so many ways...

So no. Not for me. Even with traditional controls, I just wouldn’t want this one :(

Hi Nintendo. How about making a new game?

How about releasing some new hardware that doesn't belong in a museum to go along with it?

I'll never understand this mentality there's way more interesting stuff per square inch in SS than in most Zelda games especially the 3D ones.

I've never played it so it would be interesting.

On the other hand I won't pay $60 for an HD port of a 7-8 years old game.

So either way I'm not playing it

I hope they port Skyward Sword to Switch but add weapon breakage. :p

Fi alone renders BotW infinitely better than Skyward:

So your argument is that because you can hold 5 weapons that break after a couple hits, the concept is less broken? Nice.

I mean...yes? 90% of the time I found myself throwing away weapons because my inventory was full when I found a better one.

You’re exaggerating, I’m not.

I was hoping for some sort of Zelda collection personally. Just get the 3DS remakes on there, Wind Waker HD, Twilight Princess HD en Skyward Sword. I'm not that interested in Skyward Sword. It hasn't been that long since I beat the game and I'm not exactly jumping at the opportunity to pay another 60 bones for this one.

yeah, even at max inventory it was a common problem, which was even worse when the chest and shrine rewards were just more weapons you didn't need. It's honestly a system which makes little sense in the early game and just a massive annoyance at the end game where the weapon breaking no longer serves any actual purpose.

This seems like two collections to me: 3DS remakes + maybe A Link Between Worlds in one, Wii U HD Remasters + Skyward Sword in the other.

I’d pay $60 for each. Then again I have four Zelda posters and a master sword in my game room so I’m biased.

Exactly - it was never a real problem.

I would buy this.

Skyward Sword has its problems but, aesthetically and conceptually, I find it extremely competent. Some simple changes to the game would go a long way I think, and could even make it into my favorite Zelda title.

No it was still a real problem because the system exacerbated the awful rewards situation and you end up wasting too much time dicking around with the awful inventory system constantly.

I'll be honest. I haven't given Skyward Sword on Switch one thought before this.

I was more thinking that Nintendo should be working on the next new Zelda title since BOTW released nearly 2 years ago.

I really wouldn't mind a Wii U release of Skyward Sword please make it happen :D we are still some Non Switch users enjoying the Wii U from the comfort of our couch.

Ideally every well-reviewed N64, Gamecube, and Wii game would get ported to the switch eventually. There's really no reason to be picky and choosy when it's only a matter of developing an emulator for that particular console, and then ensuring that the games run smoothly in the emulator.

Reprinting Wii+ remotes and making a new light-bar with a USB port would be the biggest hurdle for Wii games in particular.

I'd rather have the Metroid Prime trilogy on the Switch. I already re-bought MP1 for the Cube and am now contemplating if it's worth getting 2+3 as well... Or just wait for Switch port before 4 hits...

It's the best Zelda game. But I have it on Wii. Make a new Zelda instead.

Skyward sword was a great game but the least memerable of all the zeldas I think. Still enjoyed the combat a lot and the boss battles. And it was really beautiful.

Another port ? Way to go Nintendo ! I can continue not buying them on my Switch.

Will wait for the next NEW Zelda game. Probably in 4 or 5 years I guess.

Ew just say no no to motion controls, the boring and empty overworld, the linearity of each section, Fi, refighting the same boss three times, and the absolutely uninteresting way of finding treasure chests.

A bit persumptious of him, me thinks. But seriously, SS is the last game I am thinking about. If they dump this on us, they better bundle it with WW and TP - I've missed those HD iterations on Wii-U, as I passed on that console, and would love to own on Switch.

I tried to make this game entirely playable with regular controls on Dolphin once. It kinda worked, but not really. I had mapped the right analog stick flicks to simulate various motion things, but they'd really have to rework the game to make it truly work. Knowing that they'd never do that for a quick cash grab remaster, I don't want any part of this game. It will always remain the only Zelda game I didn't finish.

i'm waiting for the switch library to get bigger before i buy it, but if they release skyword sword HD without motion controls i'd buy the system immediately

It's not about not being able to collect more swords or not getting why this system is in place, it's just that the concept iself of getting your weapon broken after only few hits is rather obnoxious for many people.

But the game would suck without it since you could just grab whatever is strong and storm Ganon's castle. It's why I don't understand people complaining about it or the stamina meter, those are systems put in place to force to actually do something with the freedom the game provides you. The game is about preparation and without those systems in place you don't have a game, you have a 15 minute cruise to the final boss.

That's why I mocked it saying it's a meme, it's a shortsighted complaint. While it's valid and obviously people are allowed their opinion, the thing is if you don't like it then the game isn't for you. This isn't something that could be removed from the game and it would improve. It would fall apart. It's a core element of the experience and like I said, not liking it is fine, but it's not an isolated thing that could be removed.
