PlayStation VR Thread 2: Reloaded

Yep! I hit a point in the game (I like level 7 or something) and it just got too hard. I'm over 30 years old and I just can react fast enough anymore. :(
There's a "level" that takes place after you beat the 9th level, and that's where I'm stuck. I would go for beating a higher level and then go back and try to S-rank lower levels after being so used to the speed of the higher levels.

I S-ranked the first 5 levels that way, with the 6th still kicking my ass. The game is pretty damn hard.

Then you sir got the steal of the year.
Amazon and it's crazy Black Friday deals ;)

Welcome to all the new PSVR owners! seeing all those crazy Black Friday deals, you'd be crazy not to buy-in and check it out. You're about to see what all the hype is about.

I bought my PSVR, the Skyrim bundle over the summer this year and was immediately drawn right in having limited VR experiences previously, only having got to demo VR at a trade show and at a friends place for like 10 minutes. I've been a gamer for 30+ yrs and this has to be one of the most progressive leaps for gaming that I've personally seen. Its not a fad its not 'waggle' and considering it takes you out of your living room and puts you somewhere else, its not overly cumbersome wires and all either. I don't believe VR will replace flat gaming but VR has legitimately earned a place beside it in my personal opinion.

Below are the games I've had the most fun with as a newer PSVR owner.

1.. Resident Evil 7
2. Astrobot
3. Superhot VR (requires PS Move controllers)
4. Moss (requires PS Move controllers)
5. Beat Saber (requires PS Move controllers)
6. Firewall Zero Hour (requires PSVR Aim controller)
7. Skyrim (recommended - PS Move controllers)
8. RIGS
9. Tetris Effect
10. Arizona Sunshine (wouldnt want to play it without a PSVR Aim controller)
11. Job Simulator (requires PS Move controllers)
12. Gran Turismo Sport (PSVR mode limited to race against single CPU opponent, access to cars within your garage and pretty much all tracks - best experienced with a steering wheel)

*Bonus - If you have a copy of Star Wars Battlefront (the first one) reinstall that, download the VR Experience (X-Wing mission) and enjoy one of the best experiences PSVR has to offer, its short but epic.

A good starting point for new PSVR owners is the PSVR Worlds disc, its like a collection of games and experiences to get your feet wet. Alot of us here in this thread play VR pretty regularly and forget it can take abit to get your 'VR legs' so you dont get motion sickness and get turned off of adopting fast pace VR games with full movement.

A good rule of thumb is start with small play sessions and gradually increase your time in small increments, steer clear of full locomotion games/ games with 360 degree movement right off the bat until you've got some tolerance.

The reason I brought up the PSVR Worlds game was because it contains two games that both show off the potential of VR and are accessible to new users. Ocean Descent and The London Heist, remember that scene in the Matrix where he asked for the loading program. These two games within the PSVR Worlds disc are like your loading program, for you and friends you have over to play the first time. The good news is this game should be $20.00 or under and London Heist will blow your mind.

Whats on the way in the near future for PSVR you ask? On December 14th Borderlands 2 gets the Skyrim treatment and becomes playable in VR. In 2019 theres alot of good content on the way, personally I look forward to Blood & Truth (the full game inspired by The London Heist) Vacation Simulator, the follow up to Job Simulator and the big one. Media Molecules' - Dreams, a similar idea as Little Big Planet but so much more freedom to create from scratch, including user generated PSVR levels, a beta should come out sometime in early 2019 and I am so excited to finally get my hands on this game.
Are you sure about Moss requiring move? I played the demo with my DS4 just fine.

Today I encountered psvr induced nausea for the first time in the vr mission of battlefront. The asteroid field did my head in. Any pointers of how to deal with this other than playing less intensive psvr games first?

That sucks, I would say you don't have too quit playing less intensive PSVR games all together, just try playing in smaller doses at first, then gradually increase your play time a few minutes at a time.

I had a friend over who had never played VR before either and he was doing really well until I put him into Gran Turimo Sport, then he had to just kinda chill for 20 mins. The point is I probably bumped him up too fast, just don't under estimate taking your time with getting your 'VR legs' as once you establish that tolerance your patience will have paid off too really enjoy everything that PSVR has to offer.

I really like the positive vibe in this thread. All you guys doing the good work. I think, I'll put the visor on tonight and try wondermega's suggestion.

I played some Astro Bot afterwards and the world was whole again.

I tried a bit of Battlezone (which I picked up while it was still black friday sale) and I don't seem to have issues with that game. Probably because movement is still just on a 2D plane. I guess the X-Wing VR mission is just too much movement in all directions at once? In Battlezone the cockpit of the vehicle doesn't move much in relation to myself, while in the X-Wing the nose just goes all sorts of directions when chasing after tie fighters, while trying not to get hit by asteroids.

Stay as far away as possible from RIGS and Starblood Arena. I made the mistake of playing RIGS early in my VR days because it was something I got for free on PS+ thus one of the only VR titles I had at the time. That game fucks you up like no other unless you got some good VR legs under you.

I prefer smooth locomotion to teleportation simply from a game play standpoint, so I'd suffer through short headachy sessions just to build my legs for locomotion rather than user headache-free teleportation movement whenever I'm given the choice in a game like Skyrim for example. It's all about how you enjoy playing and of course knowing how susceptible you are to motion sickness.

Surprisingly, Wipeout is great in that it never really gave me any kind of motion sickness despite the fact that it's a high speed, high movement racer. Speaks to how well that game was made.

Ninth level holy fuck I know I didn't get that far. I think I was somewhere with mckmas8808 around like 6 or 7 before I hit my skill wall. The thing about Thumper though is if you don't play it for a while and try to go back to it (which I've tried to do) you almost have to start over because the game will start you at the last level you played, and if you weren't skilled enough to get through when you were in practice you're certainly gonna get your ass handed to you when you're rusty.

A huge reason for that is because Thumper builds on the last stage's new gameplay mechanic and then rolls it into the next stage. It layers each mechanic on top of each other. By the time I got 7 levels in it got to a point where it was too much for me to remember given the literal split-second time, you have to make the maneuver. If I tried to start again at level 7, there'd be no way for me to remember the gameplay mechanics from levels 1-6 with replaying the WHOLE thing all over. It sucks for me, but the 4 hours I did play it was like Magic!

Battlezone is cool too, I have fond memories of playing the original back on the Atari 2600 Jr with my dad as a kid. Haha obviously the VR Battlezone is much different, looking forward to sitting him down and letting him try that for the first time.

Can't go wrong with Astrobot either, its PSVR's 'go too' game right now showcasing really the best of PSVR in a clever, colourful, platformer. Best of all I don't think anyone will get sick playing Astrobot so its a perfect introductory game for new PSVR owners and just an amazing experience for veteran users.

True that. Even my fiance, who usually doesn't play much more than some match-3 games on her mobile, got interested in Astro Bot.

I'd just like to pop back in and remark how good the PSVR hardware really is. Optics are great. Subpixel layout really helps, despite the lower resolution than the rift.

Tetris effect is really good. I hope I can get a PC port eventually, and a headset without godrays. It's so pretty on PSVR.
Astrobot is great. My kids all love it. I need to spend more time with it myself.

I bought the DLC for RE7 on sale, but having a hard time motivating myself to go back and play it. It's a really intense game to play in VR, but such a great experience..../laugh/cry/laugh

I hope Sony does a next gen headset on a well-spec'd PS5, and makes all these games BC through API magic.

The extra modes in Tetris Effect can be so hard if you're going for better scores/grades. I can't seem to get much higher than an A or B for the focus ones.

But in Journey mode, for Normal difficulty, I cracked the top 500 for doing the whole thing in one sitting. It fried the hell out of my brain to play the one mode for almost 2 straight hours.

RE7 was a big disappointment it felt really low budget. 6 hrs to complete, lack of enemies variety, no zombies, graphically underwhelming, no recognizable RE characters, etc. also only first person view.

Can’t believe I spent $460 for this.

You think it's high budget like the regular RE games? RE6 for example?

$460 - VR hardware and the game.

Did you research the game by chance? It was pretty clear that it wasnt going to be your typical RE.

Its good that they tried something different. Not my cup of tea though.

Bummer you didn't like it, but even amongst PC VR titles available, consensus is it's a great VR experience.
I'd love to have it available for my Rift.

Maybe you should give the Astro Bot demo a shot.

No idea why, but here they sold the Version 2 of PSVR for just 199€, so i bought it.
But is it normal the Resolution ingame looks kinda...grainy ?
Even on PS4 Pro ?

Are there actually still people playing that online?
Yes.

I played my first few rounds earlier. Got into lobbies straight away.

Unfortunately everyone was speaking languages I don't know I still tried calling things out though for what little use it did.

I really need to play this with people I can chat with haha whilst fun the game was virtually impossible without communication.

Yes, that won't go away until generations from now when the resolutions get nutty. The reality is that it's a screen literally an inch away from your eyes.

Yes. I guess all the black Friday bundles helped out. Around here you can still pick up the firewall plus aim controller cheaper than the controller alone would cost.

I first started playing Farpoint though. As the first game I'm playing with full 3D movement I was more than a little worried about motion sickness. But that wasn't too bad, admittedly I moved very, very slowly. The issue is more that I hate spiders. If you know Farpoint you might giggle already. When the first of these little jumping spider Bastards was flying towards my virtual visor I was nearly shitting myself. I don't think I've ever been swearing (and sweating) this much when playing video games.

Don't worry the spider like creatures are only on the first part.

Just remember you can dodge with your head when they're coming at your face.

Since I got the shotgun I've gotten really good at shooting them out of the skies mid jump. So far I've only dealt with spiders, so I guess I'm not very far yet? Probably because I'm too busy looking around the place. If this were a regular flat screen shooter I'd probably done with it already.

Once you get to the first main boss you will mostly have different enemies with the odd spider thrown in but nowhere near as much as the first bit

I finally had my first date with the boss you refer to. And the second, and the third. It took me a few more times to get that queen under. Now I seem to have landed in the terminator.

Grabbed PSVR black friday week

Astro Bot is GOTY. Better than Mario Odyssey.
Super Hot is a fun little game.

VR is the future
Tech needs to be cleaned up.
Higher res. No wires. Probably a second camera in the room to allow more movement

Is Firewatch like Ghost Squad or like Rainbow Six?

DForce

NaughtyDog Defense Force
So many good VR games coming out.

I really need to find 4K HDMI cables for my VR\PS4 Pro.

It took me way too many tries to beat that boss!
This boss made me realise that I've gotten used to the 3D movement to a greater extent than I thought. At some point I was just zipping around the place, dodging tiny spiders and tunnel acid spiders alike, while loading mother spider with grenades and rockets that I picked up while racing past the respawn points. I think the slow pacing of Farpoint in between the action is necessary for stretching the VR legs and getting accustomed to it. Still not a game I'd recommend a first time VR user though.

Astro Bot won VR GOTY at the Game Awards... just a passing mention, though. Depressing.

Astro Bot deserves GOTY straight up! I guess vr is just too much of a niche atm and flat screen publishers were spending more money at the game awards.

Recently picked up a PSVR on the cheap. No prior experience with vr of any kind, first game I tried was Wipeout and I must say I´m kind of blown away to the point where I can´t imagine playing a racing game without vr support anymore.
I´m interested in a racing sim experience but I´m wondering which is better, Dirt Rally or GT sport? Feel free to recommend other good shit too. Only caveat is I don´t have a move controller and have no plans to get one currently.

Haven't played Dirt Rally yet but GT Sport is excellent. Unfortunately it doesn't have much content. You can only play against one AI.

Also worth mentioning is Drive Club VR. Lots of content but the graphics are not really good. GT Sport has much better graphics.

Next-gen will have inside-out positional tracking, so no cameras at all, just a self-contained VR unit. Fingers crossed for wireless. Two years till next gen is a long time, though--could happen.

Wouldn't inside out tracking still require some form of sensors to set up on the outside?
