Genderfield V: The saga continues

It's very important that giant multinational corporate businesses show they care about these things. Definitely not a marketing gimmick.

YIKES the soyboys over at dice must be feeling so cool and trendy patting each other backs on their hillarious, witty npc jokes and the npcs will eat it up.

looking forward to the comments, thoughts, and opinions that are going to be dredged up on this thread. a must subscribe!

This is funny. Apparently Dice and EA are tripling down.

I'm not even sad anymore, or even angry anymore. Just kinda drained and shake my head at it all.
Side note, can we get official numbers as to how many u.s soldiers were women on the front lines of ww1 and ww2? and while we are at it, a casuality list as well (not total, each)

I haven't followed this stuff, but is the core issue still the thing about women being a choosable character in WW BF games?

Geez.

What is this? It's kind of hard to tell reading the comments since so many are deleted. I get the impression it's a petty insult towards critics of the game. Hopefully sometime in the future these companies won't stoop to the lows of their lowest critics to snipe back. All it does is make them lower in my eyes. It just gives more power to the lowest people if they are given this level of attention.

If they want to make it everybody's battlefield, I'm perfectly fine with that. I like fragging all races, creeds, and genders.

But you don't get to rewrite history in the process, dipshits.

Maybe, in WWIII, we'll all get to die, hand in hand, in a glorious, ecstatic explosion of rainbow-soaked annihilation. But the past, my dear douchebags, is what it was.

Love it or hate it, but learn from it. Then Leave. It. The. Fuck. Alone. 👉

Meh.

I lost interest in Battlefield a long time ago. I think it was the repetitive color scheme of the promotional art (blue and orange contrast can only take you so far). I heavily played 3, and then less heavily 4, but still a lot.

This screenshot is unnecessarily provocative, drawing from the controversy they've already managed to stir up.

It's irrelevant to them which side of the argument they are trying to take part in you, as an individual and consumer, fall on.

The important thing to EA is that you take part in the argument.

Doesn't matter where you stand on the issue, DICE's unprofessionalism is borderline retarded.

I never thought i will see the day where a company doesn't care for profits.

I also never thought i will see that day and be sad about it.

Despite not agreeing with their shitty views, I've never actually considered uninstalling a game over this kind of trash. Honestly, I can't believe how far they have their heads stuck up their asses. It's like they're on a mission to kill their own franchise.

Why is Battlefield the poster child for this shit?

It's bizarre isn't it? It's a fucking WW2 game, why is modern culture so damn bizarre to where even a WW2 game has to be politically correct? What is wrong with people these days?

How are the Nazis depicted? Are you able to pick any race and gender on the Nazi side? If so why is pretending the Nazis were a diverse group not considered offensive?

Two reasons:
1. The developers honestly and genuinely want to push for a move inclusive game, and have female characters for their players to play as and enjoy. I think this comes from a good place, as other shooters have female characters for their players, and this has been received positively. Of course, this desire for 2018-style diversity is it at odds with the historical setting, hence the sustained push back.
2. This is the topic of the moment, and as they say: there is no such thing as bad press. I'm guessing the numbers guys came to the team and assured them that going in this hard would net them positive headlines and additional sales to boot. Of course, the types of people who push for literally re-writing history in favour of modern ideologies aren't known for their video game spending. With a 50% drop in physical sales, they're doubling down, hoping to get that positive media they presumed was waiting for them.

Fucking despicable. Mocking the lives of brave men and women who fought during the war, literally rewriting major historical effects to push a socio-political agenda, and now they are doubling down on it? So glad I didn't spend a dime on this piece of shit.

Anyone have a recap of the pro-feminism stuff they are doing to the game?

I thought the uproar was due to having female characters.

Sounds like they messed around with storylines to make them SJW worthy????? Or is it overreactions?????

I suggest you look on Youtube for the "AmericanKrogan Battlefield V: Historical Revisionism" and watch the video. He will explain it better and in shorter time than I have now. Suffice it to say, they rewrote history (putting literal convicts in the boat service, changing the brave norwegian and british men during multiple covert operations into a teenage girl and mother, and pushed a overly dramaticized version of how the Senegalese (SP?) were treated by french soldiers).

From my understanding, this picture was taken from their launch party.

Needless to say, they probably aren't partying anymore now that the sales figures are in and the game is already in the bargain bins within 2 weeks of launch.

It's understandable but why can't there be exceptions? Why does this push for inclusivity have to include even games with specific historical settings?

What would have been wrong with simply making a WW2 game that tried to depict the war as accurately as possible within the realm of a video game?

For starters I'm uncomfortable with this idea that seemingly if you are not a white male you should never, ever be expected to play as one or sympathize with a character who is, that not being able to play as a character who is just like you is a serious problem.

I would certainly get bored if all I ever played as was characters like me, so why is the reverse not true?

It ties in with the general attitude in the age of "representation" in media these days, how people want everything they experience to just be a reflection of themselves, a huge point of art is letting you walk a mile in someone else's shoes.

My point is, a little inclusivity doesn't hurt but if it's to the point where exceptions can't be made no matter the context, that's just dumb.

Why identity politics in games. Why.

I try not to follow "conspiracies" too much but I've been seeing lately actual SJW agendas being pushed on game developers.

Is this all for real?

Fuck every single thing about this garbage.

This literally makes me feel ill, why are these bastards trying to ruin my favorite hobby? Just fuck off already, ya cunts, nobody wants your Marxist bullshit in video games.

Wow, for a group that claims to be inclusive - they clearly show their hypocrisy on their sleeve.

Yup. Both are real.

Even one of the slides outright says "Teaching Students to make games under Fascism". It's the Resetera universe where they think everyone is a Nazi.

You would never even know what most are thinking or believe anyway. Ruin? Buddy...what hobby do you have where you 100% for sure know of the person's beliefs? Its too much of a unknown and overall irrelevant. If you gamed based on this and wanted to know 100% who believed in what before you bought a game, you might be looking at very little to actually play. Teams are made up of hundreds of people.

So I don't game based on what are in folks minds... irrelevant to my purchase.

Is it fun? That is my only criteria. Not who the publisher is or who they voted for or who they pray to or if they shop at Wal Mart or what they tweet about etc.

Call me crazy, but I play games just for the purpose of fun. Some folks take this stuff too overboard and overact over the smallest most irrelevant junk.

Looks the slides in that tweet come from this person:

https://www.informatics.uci.edu/explore/faculty-profiles/bonnie-ruberg/

I read through her bio and blog a little bit. It's easy to have a negative kneejerk reaction, but I feel like her overall thesis is different and significantly more layered than what those slides project. I refuse to form my opinions one way or the other based on something that's clearly designed to elicit a specific reaction, as the person who tweeted those slides seems to want.

It really isn't. What you see is what you get. I have seen their work previously and... it is genuinely poor. The fact that she was able to earn a position with such says more about the complete lack of rigor from the school.
