I still lurk here. Miss old GAF. 
I treat RE the same way as old-GAF; generally ignore enforced echo chamber topics (sometimes it's fun to peer into the mind of madness), and participate primarily in topics of personal interest.
It also helps to avoid acknowledging known shitposters, particularly those who are protected by the administration.

I've read the exact same criticisms of Old-GAF. It's not surprising, given the leanings of the user base who left.

I 100% went to era when the split happened, because i mostly need my fast video game news. I almost never talk about politics or off topic things, except when it's about drugs. So era is a nice place, going by what i need from it. Even then, it's often hard to ignore how it feels like a strange time bomb, waiting to explode and unleashing the next incredibly hateful witch hunt, where it's all about getting crazy instant revenge, before even proven guilty or knowing what's really going on. I'm all for calling out undeniable bullshit, crimes etc. but sometimes I was really shocked about how some things are handled over there
Just going by the few threads I clicked on here, while era was down yesterday, it feels much more calm and relaxed here. I could see myself using both sites from now on.

I was too (but I perused each place). But I got banned as well. Damn they have thin skin there. It's all very odd there. It felt like I was taking crazy pills interacting with the posters and mods there. Twilight Zone type stuff.

I was actually perma’d on here by Bish for commenting in the Ken Bone-Jenn Lawrence butthole thread. I suggested that there’s probably people on this forum who peeked at the fappening pics. I was perma’d and the reason was something like “we’re all not as weak and perverted as you” or something like that.

It's all very one-sided and hypocritical. I was banned for making fun of a (black) girls name, 'Diajerria'....or something like that........flaming the parents for naming her after a terrible bodily function. But then a few days ago they were openly mocking the name of a (white) kids name, 'Abcde' and the parents. No warnings or bans there!

From my understanding GAF regarding politics is more like Joe Rogan . Where he is open to different views unlike era which is like a far left dictatorship, where if you say you agree with anything in the right, or you like someone who support a right wing idea you are deemed a far right KKK nazi.

Resetera's biggest problem is the heavy-handed moderation and the infighting among the left. No arguing about it. GAF's biggest problem is the popularity of alt-right memes and pro-Trump conspiracy theories, plus a barely hidden obsession with Resetera voyeurism. Both forums share a tendency to generalize and portray cartoonish representations of each other, which is amusing but also kind of depressing.

I thought the blowup that resulted in ResetEra was ridiculous, but I migrated to Era because the bulk of my two gaming communities (Splatoon and Fire Emblem Heroes) moved there. I don't have time for Splatoon anymore, but if FE Heroes was still a thing here at GAF, I'd probably come back. I like the chill here a lot more than the Era outrage machine.

It's not hidden lmao, we are just discussing the entire site, and any other sites for the matter of fact in that thread. We do it because we want to point out the issues with how they are running the site, and the bias they show with each mod action we see. We also look at the hivemind behind the site and how it's slowly going out of control to the point where they approve of antifa members there.

I was on Era for couple of days. Full undercover mode, created a fictional persona to fit in. 23 yo trans-women identifying as non-binary bisexual bottom, white, despising white people and in love with multiculturalism and being progressive AF.
It was tough, lasted like only for 2 or 3 days until my meltdown and IP ban.

Since I made an account here I started posting here more I genuinely want this site to get back to its roots (with this new moderating style tho)

Half the entire thread page got banned. In fact, there were probably 20-30+ bans from that thread alone. It was unintentionally amusing.
The thread was about a Guild Wars 2 female developer who flamed two players of the game's community because they were discussing game design with her. She thought they were being sexist for asking her game design questions, and later got fired alongside a male collegue who defended her. Game journalism picked the story and wrote her as the victim of a sexist mob, cherrypicking the most extreme and downvoted examples from reddit to make a massive, incorrect generalization about the entire gw2 community. Then, in resetera, nearly everyone was on the side of the members who got bullied. The moderators had to close threads, make rules about what opinions were allowed or not allowed to be had and ban waves of posters until the discussion devolved to a bunch of users claiming how much of a victim that poor female developer was, and no one left to challenge their views out of fear of being banned as well.

If it makes you feel better, I can clarify it: A rather vocal group of people here seem to derive pleasure over watching and commenting on whatever happens there, which includes individuals who are willing to go as far as creating false identities and throwing fuel into the fire. That is indeed a sign of obsession.

The classic for me was when they literally made a rule that you could not say ANYTHING NICE about the creator of Kingdom Come: Deliverance.
There are also plenty on Era who do the same here. Multiple bans have been given out because of it. Either way, they are minorities to the larger populations on both sites.

I mean I am a part of that group, and some of the group likes watching stupid shit play out on ERA, but others are pointing out faults, and issues with the way the site is run. Change individuals to just one because I'm pretty sure we're not doing that at all. We're not obsessed we are all active elsewhere on the site, we observe what is being done on ERA, because a lot of shit doesn't seem to make sense over there.
They condone doxxing and will cover it up if necessary. If you don't believe me just Googling resetera, shows 3 videos, and the first one is about the whole CDPR thing, and that person wasn't permabanned, and that person also had help from a mod. There's also the whole smash situation where people doxxed that person and fellow ERA members, there's also the whole Valkirie Chronicles problem where they purposely put something out of context to push a narrative, I could go on for hours about how much shit there is to dive into, and just watching how far some people will go on there to push a story.
It's less pleasure, and more confusion, disbelief, among other emotions.

The problem for me is where the lines are drawn. As an example I don't think not being bothered by or even liking videogame titties makes you irredeemable human garbage but on reset it does. Resetera tends to make every issue black and white and doesn't let people discuss things where there is room for debate. It's get with the program or get the fuck out.

Not true, even this past week there was a huge back-and-forth in the "why women complain about female character designs" thread from a user who genuinely just likes the outfits. That user hasn't been banned. He's been sternly replied to (by myself, even), but he's not banned. He would've been banned if he said something like "I like anime titties and I don't care what women think about it," because obviously he would.
For most issues like this though, "the program" has been firmly established by facts, evidence, and history, and sometimes the moderation team doesn't feel like rehashing all of that for the 1,000th time. So they just ban and move on. Their reasoning is (usually) sound, though. In the recent back-and-forth in the female character design thread, a mod actually wrote a long-ass manifesto calmly explaining exactly why the designs were an issue even though some people like them. Sometimes they'll still do that.
If everyone else is with "the program," it might be worth investigating why that is.
