Guys, did nobody here finish FC5? This is obviously more of an expansion to FC5 than a new FC because at the end of the game you
. Obviously this is the aftermath of FC5, makes perfect sense.
end up with Joseph tied up in a bomb bunker, waiting for the "clensing" by an atomic bomb.

I don't think the cover is crap. What would be crap is if a black female was tied to the car and two white males had weapons and were smirking at the chance to shoot her. I'm just glad the freaking video game industry has slowly started to mature a little bit.

The logical solution to quieten the outrage would surely be to revert back to having exclusively white male leads and then people can relax again. Nothing politically dodgy about that at all.
The whole furore over this and BFV is so creepy when recontextualised by asking those people aggreived what their solution would be ... because the answer could only be "don't be so woke" eg don't use women or people of colour as lead protagonists.
The assumption that the only reason for a developer using women or a black person as a lead is to "be woke and PC" is essentially saying there's no other reason why a game would star a black/female lead.
So this gamer gate culture creates an impossible environment for developers where they can either have white male leads...or be a bunch of SJW virtue signalling fakers. No middle ground? When is it acceptable to have female lead characters? (Maybe games about being a mum, or a teacher, or fashion or dating Sims).

And some women gamers prefer to play as women? But there's also outrage when a game ( total war) has optional female avatars. Devs can't win. It seems the only solution is to go back to the day's when gaming was an exclusively male realm. But times and culture change, there's more female gamers than ever now.

It's always been impossible because the gaming industry is large enough that anything will cause outrage from at least one loud person. The real question you should ask, "Is it impossible for a game to have a black protagonists without the protagonist's race being a politically or socially motivated?" The answer to that is still yes but it's the dev choice. Movies have had black leads for years and nobody cares because those movies didn't have a black person so the director can get brownie points.
Very few people (other than the boogie men that resetera told you exist) care about race and gender in video games. A lot of people get frustrated when race and gender is used as a way to get brownie points instead of as a way to increase the quality of the story or game itself.
Clearly you viewed the BFV outrage from the outside looking in. Very very few people were upset at the inclusion of women in BFV. I'm not going to spend my time explaining the issues people had with BFV to you because you have clearly convinced yourself a false narrative is reality. Just a quick thought experiment for you though, try to think why BFV sales are so low and why the game did a drastic change in visuals e.g. cosmetics and art style from the original reveal to launch.
No one assumes that other than your fun little straw men.
The middle ground comes when devs don't include people of color solely for identity politics. Another thought experiment for you. Try to think how many people are upset that Tomb Raider stars a woman.

Good points. Tomb Raider existed before this weird GG notion that the only reason devs would use a female lead would be to be "PC". Using threads like this, if it came out as a new AAA action adventure franchise this year, they'd be posters here going "Eidos trying so hard to be woke".
As for BFV...I really never bought the whole"it's not historically accurate line". I like checking post histories, lot's of the most vocal angry people seem to be against representation in general. Even without female characters, the BF series has recently been far from historically accurate. It's an arcade shooter FFS with respawns, perks etc. If people wanting to criticize it's lack of historical accuracy why just stop at the inclusion of women? Because for some people it's not about that, it's about that gamergate feeling that "their hobby" is getting watered down for political reasons... (As opposed to simply being made more inclusive and accessible for more people)

There were plenty of reasons to dislike BF V, the reason you heard about women the most was because of how the devs reacted, they insulted their player base and they fully admited to do it for the sake of inclusiveness, now I'm happy to have women in the games, but having shallow mary sue type characters doesn't actually do anything, and that's usually what happens when they do it just for the sake of it. I have no idea what direction this one is going in. But after 2/3/4/5, I’m in. I could play as a little pink unicorn for all I care, race and gender don’t matter one bit to me.

Can't be any worse than Far Cry 5 was for me which was very disappointing. Easily prefer the two preset black women protagonists over character creation and a silent protagonist as that took what could have been the best story and characters in Far Cry and turned it into arguably the worst. Fucking hate character creation and silent protagonists. Can't have any type of story or interaction if the character you play as doesn't talk to the antagonists.
On a side note - I hope that it's NOT a co-op only game and that it's more like Far Cry 4 where playing solo was still the focal point and co-op was optional. In Far Cry 5, it was clearly meant to be played in co-op and solo was secondary.

Not everyone is outraged obviously but read this thread, there's at least half a dozen contributions along the lines of "so woke".
Maybe outrage was the wrong word, but my point stands. People can only see the cover art from a sceptical perspective. Guess that's what I meant by "outrage".
Again, the narrative created is the only reason a game could possibly have black female leads is to try and be PC... rather than just because they wanted to have black female leads full stop.
What's the 2018 condition where a game can ever have a non White male protagonist without these accusations? . I'm genuinely interested. 20 years ago on British TV there was a show with a black lawyer. I remember my dad commenting how they were trying to be PC. Twenty years later there's lots more black lawyers. Weird how cultural change works. My dad was kind of right...but also kind of wrong.
