Okay.

Some of your points are legitimate criticism. But then we have gems like this:

At what point does an opinion become plain false? Because Astro Bot's entire success rides on the fact that it was designed for VR, making the above statement demonstrably false. You know full well it wouldn't be nearly as well received if it was just another platformer game.

Anyway, I've wasted enough time on this today, I'm out.
Well I kinda stand by that, VR is a gimmick and only a fanboy wouldn't admit as such, as displayed throughout this topic. I love guitar hero, but as a true fan I can realize it's a gimmick. Only guitar hero fanboys would claim it's not a gimmick... it's the negative connotation that fanboys can't stand to live with, while true fans embrace reality...

But in retrospect, you are 100% correct that I was wrong is saying astrobot could be better without VR. It can be done and I stand by that, but it's wouldn't be better as the whole appeal is the VR gimmick and the gameplay itself is the side dish. I will concede defeat on that one for sure...

Goodluck proving BANGS wrong
I know it can be tough, but as you can see with actual logic and reasoning it can be done, not by foaming out the mouth regurgitating the same nonsense over and over again...

Well, you are wrong on the actual meaning/defenition, so theres that. "A trick or device primarily intended to attract attention, publicity, or business (and the bit you so convieniently left out), often with little intrinsic value/substance.

I agree that it´s not a gimmick since it really has substance to it and it is by itself the subject of attraction, but the true is that it now wears a somewhat extended "gimmick stigma", which is not the same thing, but I wouldn´t say it´s undeserved, people see the attractiveness, but not so much the value (utilitarian).

Bought one last weekend... man i am blown away by it. Never tryed it out before so i didnt knew what to expect but it was more then i hoped for.
Astrobot in perticular is amazingly done! The way they use the VR in combination with the DS4 is really well done with interacting and gameplay.

Resident Evil 7 and Wipeout gave me motion sickness tho. RE7 after a minute of 20 but wipe-out almost instantly. Hope it gets better later especially with RE7. Wipeout isnt my game so dont mind to miss out on that one

That was actually ~170 degrees horizontal FoV (200 diagonal), and it was still somewhat low resolution (close to a Vive Pro) and it had no HDR, no personal HRTF audio calibrator, no depth of focus.

I think you get my point. I agree with your point, and wanted to expand on it by saying that each generation will feel like a stop-gap as advances will only be exponentially large each time. Which is exciting, as it means you'd be even more impressed just trying 200 degrees since you only tried 170, let alone all the other stuff.

No i don't get your point and no it wasn't close to VivePro which i also tried. VivePro is barely any improvement over normal Vive to begin with. Screen on 8kpimax is way beyond any of current VR. Sure they can't display 8K but improved pixel density alone is enough to remove completely screendoor effect which is present on almost all VR devices (it is minimal on PSVR though) and there is huge difference between 1000x1000 on 900p screen and 1000x1000 on 4k screen.

Whatever it is 170 or 200 it doesn't matter because it provides enough fov to not feel like you have googles on which is why it makes it next gen.

HDR/HRTF/no depth focus are just gimmics that barely will improve VR experience like 200fov does.

FOV is simply much more important that those gimmicks.

For a second I mixed up the input resolution with the panel resolution. You're right, Pimax 8K is 3840 x 2160 per eye but with an input resolution of 2560x1440 that gets upscaled. This would mean 22 PPD, so yes it would be a decent improvement over Vive Pro.

Okay this part is complete BS. HDR will be a decent boon, depth of focus will fix various comfort issues and improve presence, and a personal HRTF calibratior would fully immerse your sense of sound and would be drastically different from any audio implementation in any game ever made when used with proper audio propagation techniques. Spatial audio would be completely real and 100% trick your brain into believing it is real audio from a real place in the real world. This would boost immersion a massive amount.

They aren't gimmicks. They are literal vital parts for VR to succeed with the exception of HDR as that is just a really good bonus and a true improvement.

You can test HRTF audio here:

It's already very good, but with a personal HRTF calibrator built into the headset, it will be truly lifelike.

The motion sickness will subside over time. That’s pretty much a guarantee unless there are some special cases that are super sensitive and can never find their legs. Enjoy!

You really messed up starting with Wipeout. I would have waited a month of different VR games, before trying that first. It's alot to handle for a newbie.

Yeah i guess your right. Will give it another shot when i am more experienced in it. Did look amazing
