Seems like each are going their separe ways. The podcast is now rebranded as Castle Super Beast and will be hosted by Woolie and Pat.

The power of friendship! Is there a tl;dr for those who missed the drama?

I'm not sure if there's anything publicly known, I don't follow every single video they put out, so I may just not know, but to me this came completely out of nowhere and is very shocking, everything seemed like it was basically normal up until now.

This is a damn shame, I'm gonna especially miss the Shitstorm dearly, which gave me something to look forward to every October and I'll guess they'll never finish their Star Trek playthrough either, they were also very clearly building up to a playthrough of DMC5.

Not to sound bitter but I bet Pat is the reason why, I always got the impression he could be kind of an asshole.

I wonder if we'll ever know any reasons why this has happened.

Just finished watching. I'm legit shocked, didn't know anything was up between Pat and Matt. This is a damn shame, they were all so good together imo, but it is what it is.

The only consolation for me is that there's still a lot of their content I haven't watched yet, but it's all gonna have a depressing air over it now.

It's always sad when these things happen, like when the original incarnation of TGWTG fizzled out or when Fungo and Rosseter of Twin Perfect split (which Twin Perfect as a whole seems to have since died basically)

Or just in general when web content that you really enjoyed irrevocably changes in some way, when the salad days end.

In the case of Super Best Friends, this is a really sour note to end the year on.

Yup, it's gonna be kind of depressing watching all the video's I have yet to watch of theirs that I never got around to and now it'll feel weird watching all of their individual channels now. I've actually been watching a lot from Pat and Matt's channels lately, now i'm gonna have this awkward period like I had with Liam where i'll just have this lingering thought in my mind that these guys will never be doing a playthrough together again.

Their best stuff is well past them. Not all that broken up actually. As far as content to quality ratio, their early Machinima stuff was probably the best. Pat playing the angry gimmick, Matt playing the dimwit gimmick. And that was completely different to the LP channel. They were fun for some years still. I can't quite put my finger on exactly when, but apathy really set in the last few years. Wasn't just me either, the channel was stagnating on views and sub increase for a long time.

You occasionally got LA Noire and Detroit, but for every good series you had TMS, plus 6 or so mediocre ones. Like, just when you think the channel is on a roll, they start a 100 part LP of a boring combat heavy JRPG where they run out of material to work with in 7 episodes.

Not to sound bitter but I bet Pat is the reason why, I always got the impression he could be kind of an asshole.

And Matt's a wimp that never grew out of being a dimwitted teenager. (Ironic considering he's now married) He's the type of person to avoid people like Pat. As far as I recall, they weren't all that close to prior the Two Best Friends. Woolie was friends with both of them. It was supposed to be Matt and Woolie doing a few vids, but Woolie bailed, his insecure nature got to him, and Pat jumped in because why not, not like anything will come of it. Then they got picked up by Machinima and after a few series they started doing LPs on Sw1tcher. Brought in Woolie after a while, then Liam came into the fold, the rest is history.

So looks like I'm not the only who is completely surprised by this? I wasn't watching many of the more recent videos (lack of time in general!) so I thought I might just not be up to date.

I gotta say though, after I found out that all of them had their own separate channels that they are all very active on, I did grow a little worried that they would stop with the main channel.

These guys did a lot for expanding my video game interests. Pat got me into Persona, Dark Souls, and Silent Hill. Woolie made me more interested in fighting games (before I was really only into Smash Bros and Soul Calibur). Matt didn't really get me into anything new but his presence was still appreciated (as was Liam's in his years on the channel). They as a shared interest all got me into Devil May Cry and Platinum Games' library as well as getting more interested in indie games. And there's other ones that I haven't had time to get to yet but want to because of these guys: Metal Gear Solid, Yakuza, Mirror's Edge, etc.

I know some might be dismissive and say, "oh, but positive opinions about these games are everywhere! You would have just found out about these games that way!" It's not a fair equivalent in my book. The way these guys would get so hyped for many of these games, talking heavily about the lore, their fond memories, etc. on the videos and the podcasts just couldn't compare to reading some positive reviews online. Not saying some of these I wouldn't have eventually have checked out on my own but it would have very likely taken longer and I still give them all the credit.

Honestly, the saddest part of this is hearing Matt and Pat are no longer friends. Liam left on good terms with each of them (I know some debated if he and Pat had issues, but it sounded like they were never super close outside of work and that neither had any beef with the other at the end of it so at least that's good), but that's clearly not the case here. Granted, at the beginning their friendship was more of a thing because of their mutual friendship with Woolie but it did seem like a genuine friendship did evolve over the years and I hope their "break up" went as "smoothly" as something like that can possibly go and that they can both be friends with Woolie with no hard feelings or awkwardness.

I hope they have success on all their solo projects, and it's nice to hear that Pat and Woolie will continue a podcast with just the two of them, the SBFP podcast got me through countless long drives.

Goodbye, Super Best Friends Play. Thanks for all the memories.

I would say they never quite reached the highs of their Ride to Hell playthrough again, which was one of the best things they ever did.

Matt being a big old teenager is exactly what I love about him, I'm basically the same way lol.

So looks like I'm not the only who is completely surprised by this? I wasn't watching many of the more recent videos (lack of time in general!) so I thought I might just not be up to date.

The most recent ones I watched were the Star Trek videos, the Jumper video and the last Saturday Morning Scrublords, I never would have guessed they were about to call it quits.

The reality of this is sinking in more and the more it does the sadder I feel, while I really like Matt's solo channel and he does a pretty good job with playthroughs by himself, it's not gonna be the same without any of these guys playing games together.

This is going to go down as one of my defining memories of the 2010s for sure, I'm already waxing nostalgic about the good old days for them.

Also, where does Plague fit into all of this?

Wow damn, I wonder if all the people shitting on him in the KH playthrough is a part of why Matt atleast called it quits. Ive also noticed recently that in videos Pat would lowkey be a little more rude towards Matt and maybe a lil vice versa. Damn though, end of an era Ive followed them since day 1 and theyve helped me through some hard times. So long space cowboys

I felt that they break up since 2015 or something.

The Two Best Friends era was the best. 10 minutes of the guys playing for just dumb fun. Woolie turned the "when's Mahvel" meme a new level, and Liam was a nice tidbit. Then Super Best Friends came and wasn't that great, then Liam exits and gets kinda lame... Yeah, it's dead a while.

These dudes have always been a great oasis of good times. They and people like the Game Grumps crew hold a special place in my gushy gamin' heart. They've helped me and plenty of others get through tough times with their banter and good giggles, so I hope they have a solid road going forward.

It's a shame to hear Matt and Part aren't friends anymore, but I hope that they can work it out. Thanks for all the laughs and best of luck to those good boys.

Seen it coming from post Omikron with Liam leaving and them heading toward the Jon Tron route of being trying to make it less about fun and more about a production. At this point they can put out random idea and it will make money o its won without SBFP.

What they should have done was occasionally meat up to play some bad or weird games for fun while being more active on their own channels, but they didn't, and I think they couldn't really handle it so things got a bit hectic in the background and it was decided that things had to break up.

But that seems to be a growing issue with youtube individuals or groups after they get big and then keep running for some years, they don't seem to know how to handle it.

They were fantastic personalities and I will dearly miss their work. Sure some of it was hit/miss, but with most Let's Play channels, I just watched the games that interested me and skipped ones that don't. Their community was also pretty fantastic. Rarely would you see any needless political BS. Just a bunch of folks who love gaming, enjoying the hobby and shitposting.

This is a disappointing day, but I hope for the best for each of them and I will continue to enjoy their content otherwise.

Wonder what Pat's problem is. Guess Liam won't be on the new podcast either.

Disappointing to see. Maybe we can see some Woolie x Liam x Matt LPs in the future, or cross over videos. Woolie seems to be on good terms with everyone, last I remember.

He seemed to be the one holding them together up until this point. Also the one putting the most effort into the main channel.

Wasn't he the one that originally brought Matt/Pat together? I thought he was the core person behind the show to begin with.

I gotta say though, after I found out that all of them had their own separate channels that they are all very active on, I did grow a little worried that they would stop with the main channel.

I was surprised when I learned they all had their own separate channels, that was a big change, I figured the main channel might become a secondary thing, but I'd never imagine they'd call it quits completely.

What they should have done was occasionally meat up to play some bad or weird games for fun while being more active on their own channels, but they didn't, and I think they couldn't really handle it so things got a bit hectic in the background and it was decided that things had to break up.

This would have been my idea, to make the channel more of a once in a while thing than something steadily updating, rather than quit completely, but it seems like the big issues here are personal things, with Matt and Pat no longer being friends irl, which is really sad.

Not surprising but also kinda surprising. I'll miss the shitstorm every year.

Yeah, that's what I'm gonna miss the most.

It's also sad that they never gave Silent Hill 4 a complete playthrough.

It's just in general bizarre that they would pick now to call it quits on the horizon of two games, RE2 remake and DMC5, that seemed tailor made just for their channel.

I just watched the games that interested me and skipped ones that don't.

I did too and now looking over the list of their LPs I see I've actually not watched the lion's share of their content, so there's plenty more Two Best Friends for me to watch, but it's all gonna have a bitterly ironic air over it now considering how it ended.

The writing was on the wall for this what with Matt being delusional and thinking he can actually have a solo career at this.

i don't keep up with these people, i hate e-celebs with obnoxious dudebro personalities who should be looking after their kids instead of playing videogames all day.

Wow it's like you described nobody on the channel. Great job!

pretty sure i got at least the "obnoxious dudebro personalities" part down to a t, man.

They are nothing like "dudebro personalities". It is clear you have zero clue what you are talking about and spewing needless shit to be edgy.

Their videos kept me from full on depression all these years. No other Youtubers I’ve seen has the same amount of insights and vidya tidbits that aligned with me more than these guys.

Things I love kept on dying left and right and I can’t take it anymore that the things I hate kept on flourishing.

Super Best Friends is dead and meanwhile Red Letter Media has slowed down to a "once in a blue moon" schedule for a while.

Now is not the greatest times for Youtube channels.

Yeah, that came entirely out of nowhere. I'm going to miss the full group content, but I'm glad Pat and Woolie are continuing the podcast at least. Matt's manchild gimmick never really worked for me, but I wish him the best regardless.

With any luck this means that their individual channels ramp up with some cool new stuff early next year. Pat will undoubtedly be all over RE2, and both him and Woolie will presumably be as in for DMC5 as much as the rest of us who've been waiting on it for 10 years.

I just hope this setback results in the three of them coming back stronger, rather than fading away :messenger_bicep:

i'll see myself out then. :/
Don't let the door hit you on the way out, I guess? Dunno what you were expecting, SBFP is/was pretty well-loved.

I mainly watched for Pat and Woolie. Some places are going on conspiracy on it, but I really do think it's as simple as a desire to move on and not force it for the channel.

Matt clearly has love for his personal channel and his work back in the game industry.

I hope Woolie and Pat can start doing LPs on WoolieVs because they have great chemistry.

I'm glad Castle Superbeast or w/e podcast will start soon. I loved the SBFC for the past 3 years.

Been watching the guys since it was just the two best friends and this is a sad end to an era but not unexpected. You could see this coming with them doing their own things and there were many times Matt seemed tired of the grind and the passion wasn’t there.

I scrolled through the comments when the announcement went on Facebook and it seems Pat said some shit to Liam and Matt took offense. Words were said and the friendship and channel were done. Sucks to see it end but at least I can finally catch up with a ton of their videos and I’m glad Pat and Woolie are keeping the podcast going.

Not sure what you're talking about. RLM videos are being released at about the same rate they have for years.

I think Pat just has a very hard personality to deal with. For some people with thicker skin like Woolie you can fight him or put up with it but for Liam and Matt who are a bit softer I can see them eventually getting tired of his brashness and just stop caring or starting to resent. Pat likes to start shit, tells it like it is, is in your face and likes to be right. He's still a very entertaining guy and I'm not ragging on him or anything but sometimes peoples personalities don't mesh well with each other and I think that's what happened.

i'm sorry for attacking something you guys like, :/

For what it's worth, I think you were basically right. I opened their most popular video on Youtube, was amazed by how worthless it was, and they all seem pretty obnoxious. Nothing of value has been lost.

Yes, "for a while" as I said, it's been years, but they used to put out so much more content, I'd say 2013/2014 was the peak period.

They're down to maybe one or two videos a month now, sometimes a little more but rarely, Half In The Bag feels like it's been semi-retired because they just don't care about modern Hollywood's output, which is understandable.

Anyway, I have a question, will Matt and Woolie still make videos together at least?

I though the title was talking about a game for a second.

Man, even the last two years they MUST have been struggling with eachother, because you dont go nearly 10 years and then decided to not be friends anymore, it's likely they treated it like an obligation about 2-3 years ago and it just got worse to the breaking point just recently.

Sucks because they were one of the only 3 person LP groups left, Pokecapn died, Tipping forties died, not theydied.

So how long you give it this year until these phony bolognas lose enough money to reunite and not reach the heights they used to?

Twitch brings in more money than Youtube so probably never. They also don't have to split the revenue in three this way.
