Anyone into kpop?

K-pop girls are hot. Had a time in my life when I listened heavily to this two songs. Dunno really why, but I did.

I think some of the k-pop girls are really beautiful, but I dont listen to the music.
In old-gaf, I'd occasionally check in on the k-pop thread, just to check out the cute and/or sexy gifs. lol

LMAO... just be sure to check the ages. Some groups have big age gaps between the members like this one:

The youngest members just turned 14 and 15 while the oldest member is 23, but guessing which is which isn't always as easy as it sounds.

I won't lie, they all look like kids to me. But damn that music is catchy.

Just got in after binge watching Produce 48 on Youtube. Now I'm an Iz*One fan. In fact, I bought their debut album (both 2 versions). I see a bright future for them.

Glad to see this topic back from the depths of page 2-3 :)

I keep seeing them namedropped on r/kpop but I haven't given their stuff a listen yet. Sounds like I gotta give em a chance!

Glad to have you aboard. We'll convert you one day, even if it means resorting to more pictures ;) In the meantime, I recommend this music video from a goddess on Earth named Jun Hyo Seong. I distinctly remember the first time I saw this video. One of the few times I've caught myself with my mouth hanging open.

I'm into the girls singing kpop. They're the height of what can be achieved in the plastic surgery department. But the music? No. For starters I can't understand the lyrics.

If you can't enjoy a song without singing along, I can understand your point. Otherwise, it's pop music. The lyrics aren't gonna have much substance either way. Is there anything that follows the for starters or is that it? Not trying to be defensive; just curious what turns you away.

In other news, LABOUM's latest single:

Kinda catchy, but not something I'd go out of my way to listen to.

Well I do enjoy the melody, but only if I'm watching a video alongside it. The dancing adds to the music. It helps that the girls are too sexy.

By itself on speakers, the music does little for me.

I see. That's fair. Well you're welcome to stay and check out the videos that get posted!

I'm not demanding it of you or anything, but something you may try is to watch a captivating video once or twice and listen to the song later in your car or something. You may then find it more enjoyable to hear because the memory of the audio is associated with the video in your brain. DDU-DU DDU-DU in the first post is a perfect example from my experience; the video is flashy and colorful, and the "finger gun" choreo during the chorus is fun.

That’s some catchy music right there.

Excellent taste.

Some of this reminds me of music I’d listen to from Initial D. Is that Jpop?
Initial D is most known music-wise for Eurobeat, which is the high energy techno songs with vocals. See: The(1) holy(2) trinity(3) for examples. Initial D is an anime, though, which means some j-pop in the soundtrack is almost inevitable. I've never actually seen the show.

Nothing like girls day!
I'll agree to that but only the current Girl's Day, with the current 4 members doing concepts more on the sexy side. Pretty much everything from "Expectation" onward.

Their best song though imo is "Something" which I already posted on page 1

I won't lie, they all look like kids to me. But damn that music is catchy.
The trap here is that the two youngest are actually the two tallest members who can potentially still grow taller. Probably the two with the brightest future as well.

I didn't watch the whole thing, I was initially somewhat upset with the whole AKB48 collab. I watched the first couple of episodes just to see the Japanese girls get told they suck by the judges which I wasn't disappointed by, and also to see the initial talent pool. The vocal talent on display was far inferior to what was seen in season 1 of Produce 101. Yeah a few girls could sing well but nobody was close to Sejeong or Yeonjeong. Yuri seems to be the best voice in IZ*ONE but she's still nowhere near those two. But I did notice the two Starship kids in their initial evaluation. They've got the visuals, they're tall, they can sing and dance well enough and have decent charisma and stage presence for such a young age, so I was sure they would make into IZ*ONE. I predict Yujin will be the next Suzy, while she doesn't look exactly like her, she totally gives off the same vibe and has enough vocal talent to have a solo career similar to Suzy's, though I suspect Starship will put her into a group with Wonyoung once IZ*ONE disbands first.

I still don't like the fact that a lot of times on these Produce shows popularity often plays a bigger part than talent and good performances in the public voting; happens way too often that a team gets robbed. Rumor team should've won the concept eval for sure in Produce 48, just like Yeonjeong's team should've beaten Somi's team on their ITNW performances in Produce 101, especially with Yeonjeong totally nailing Tayeon's and Jessica's ad-libs at the end of the song. As for IZ*ONE having a bright future the group is a temporary group like all the Produce groups, here though it will last 2 and a half years so it's a lot better than I.O.I who only lasted like 7 months. There's no doubt that if I.O.I would have been a permanent group they would be dominating among girl groups, there was too much talent and visuals there. But surprisingly none of the groups that integrated I.O.I members went on to be very popular. In fact I would says that Chung Ha, whose company decided to debut her as a solo artist, is the most successful I.O.I member these days.

Plastic surgery is much rarer these days, it's not like 10 years ago. It's more frowned upon now, plus Korean makeup has made huge strides in the last 4-5 years. As for not understanding the lyrics, that's a poor excuse since other than SM all the other companies put English subs on their Youtube videos, you just gotta hit the CC button. There's also some songs that have English versions like Red Velvets "Bad Boy" or my favorite Kpop Christmas song which is totally appropriate for this time of the year (TTS is the best sub-unit ever btw):

A group of middle schoolers visited our school and one girl said she'd like to go to Korea to see her favorite band. I asked the name and she told "BTS". Initially I thought she said Beatles.
Finally times have changed

I don't listen to KPop, but I do watch Running Man (religiously). They have KPop artists on all the time. TWICE was on a few weeks ago. I'll die a happy man if I never hear the DU-DU-DU song again. They went through a New Face phase for a while there, and it was a welcome respite.

And it is always the weirdest thing when the idols do their dances. Like, the second the music starts - even if it is 34.68 seconds in - their eyes glass over and they robotically perform the dance in perfect choreography. Then the music stops and it takes a few second for the light to return to their eyes and for them to realize where they are. I never believed in mind control before I saw that.

MAMA is such a joke now. M-Net just gives undeserved awards to their own groups. Even the winning groups themselves are embarrassed and barely celebrate their win. IZ*ONE winning female rookie award over (G)I-DLE is already pretty ridiculous but Wanna One winning male group of the year after the year BTS had is just nonsensical.

I haven't really gotten into watching award shows yet. That sounds pretty shitty. I just read on reddit that MAMAMOO got snubbed in several ways.

Man I've tried time and time again to get into KPop. I used to be into JPop. The Western culture is usually pretty weird about it so instead of having good recommendations I get "sexy videos." Someone help.

I mean don't get me wrong BTS still won 2 Daesangs (prestigious Grand Prize awards) at MAMA for album of the year and artist or the year so they definitely got the recognition they deserved but still if you're gonna have a best male group category and have BTS as a nominee then they should probably win considering they won album of the year and artist of the year. Yeah MAMAMOO always seem to get shafted, but this year is just ridiculous because for me they were probably the female group that put out the best music this year, even if I didn't love their latest song the other 3 they dropped this year were all amazing:

SM just dropped an English MV for RBB

Did Seulgi just say "having such a good ass time"?

Check out the first post for some stuff to start with.

What sort of music do you like? I realize you said j-pop, but that could mean anything.

Yeah I've been looking through those.

I'm really into Latino, Hip-Hop, and Alternative. I would like to think my horizons are broad enough to enjoy anything that sounds good.

Hmm. I never listened to K.A.R.D., but I remember everyone in the other board going on about the latin niche they seem to be going for... or were going for. I haven't heard about them in a while.

There's also this from MAMAMOO, posted by Boss Mog Boss Mog a bit earlier

One of my favorite K-hip-hop tracks is Verbal Jint featuring Taeyeon "If the world was Perfect". Verbal Jint is a good rapper and Taeyeon's voice is always soul-soothing.

Some Kpop things I noticed this week:

Grats to IU for surpassing 100M views on Palette, such a chill song

Jennie looked good during her Goodbye Stage on Inkigayo

귷 is a youtuber who makes some of the best stage mix videos using 2K60 sources and having near flawless transitions. Sadly Youtube deleted all his videos 7 months ago and so he only has what he's done since then up on his channel. Well anyway he came out with IZ*ONE's La Vie En Rose Stage Mix video

Wendy had a duet with Eric Nam on the Music Bank Christmas Special. They sang "Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas". Eric had a couple of iffy notes at the beginning but other than that it was pretty good.
Solar did a Disney medley in English on the samespecial and her vocals were good but her English was a bit rough at times.
And fromis_9 did a very poorly lipsynched rendition of "All I Want For Christmas Is You". Makes you miss SNSD who did the song justice at least.

In the spirit of December 25th...

BLACKPINK doing a Christmas medley, including the Jingle Bell Rock bit from Mean Girls :messenger_tears_of_joy: I wish there were a HQ version of these performances.

Tiffany Young (of Girls' Generation/SNSD) - Peppermint

This isn't really Christmas-themed, but it happened today! A few TWICE and a few Red Velvet doing a song/dance cover of an OG kpop song.

Incredible. Just before the year ends they put this hit out. When they're not given garbage with retarded engrish and forced to follow generic pop trends, TVXQ and JYJ are in a whole different league from regular normie kpop. This track is very reminiscent of 2009/10 kpop, when kpop was at its best.

CLC comes back with a banger. I love the song, but I think the MV kinda undermines its message, despite being visually great.
Bonus: Live performance, just for the loud-ass fan chants.

I'm into hip hop, too. Well I haven't really followed it as closely for a few years, but it was my genre of choice before. Ordering by "last modified," it looks like my music folder's most recent hip hop entry was Ghostface's Lost Tapes album... in October :messenger_tears_of_joy: I was following Joe Budden's podcast for a bit, but it's like 2 hours a pop and my attention span is too fragile.

BTS is no joke. They're pretty much synonymous with "kpop" as far as any non-fan is concerned.

I like kpop a lot, my favorite group is GFRIEND, they just wrapped promotions yesterday for the latest comeback. Was really nice, 6 wins at shows at least :messenger_smiling:

Since I didn't see anyone posting a GFRIEND song yet, here is the latest, "Sunrise", a follow up to last years "Time For The Moon Night".

ok, I somehow misread the thread title as „anyone into kebap“, and I entered to express my love for wonderful yummy foods.
I was not expecting what I saw. o_O

Allow me to gush for a moment. BLACKPINK will be on some USA TV shows next week!(!!!!)

* Late Show on 11 Feb
* Good Morning America on 12 Feb
* Strahan & Sara on 15 Feb

Ever since I became a fan, I thought that BP in particular had the look and sound required to go worldwide. Kinda surreal to see it coming true! They'll be touring in the USA as well this year, but no dates announced yet. I just hope their songs don't take a Western turn as far as production goes. Their collab with Dua Lipa was pretty forgettable.

I follow only one K-Pop group, BTS after I learned what overcame all those who make their debut go through. Many Russian girls tried to get into Korean show business, but only one of them did it recently. There are many repulsive nuances and the question is: was that worth it?
