PS4 has sold over 91 million units, Spider-Man 9+ mil, PSN 90+ mil MAU (CES 2019)

were these numbers calculated before or after the announcement of the pervo anime games being "censored?" Because from the outrage on the thread here that had to amount to easily 10 - 15 million in lost sales.

- No Cross-play (This has now changed)
- No 4K UHD Blu-Ray player
- Half-assed Pro
- No Backward compatibility

People said this would really hurt PS4 sales. lol

Don't compare my post to theirs. I'm not shitting on fans or being combative. It's just a joke about the relative success of two competing brands.

Don’t worry about that, I’m beginning to think K Killer751 is honestly just trolling nowadays.

I quoted yours because it was funny, so was his if you don’t take it seriously, which I don’t.

I kinda like the wording used to communicate the new games coming out. Instead of just saying “exclusively on PS4” or “only on PS4” he used the sentence “only possible on PS4”
It’s clever one liners like this that subconsciously stick in a persons head and raises the significance of the brand. Pretty brilliant choice of words.
Anyway, well deserved Sony now don’t let it go to YOUR heads.

i think it did after this holiday season. it had a stronger year overall.

sony should lower base ps4 to 199 permanently. and ps4 pro to 349 or 299 to break 110 mill next year

Well, X1 fell behind this year behind X360 in US launch aligned.

18 mil. with the price at 299 and less promotions compared to last year is nothing less but great.

18 mil. is still higher than the best X360 year ( and this is sold through vs shipments).

Will have to wait for EA’s estimates later this year.
Why would anyone wait for EA's estimate? It's been proven factually incorrect.

The gap from their 2016 to end of year 2017 estimate is less than sold in the United States alone, not to mention the rest of the planet. They estimated that it sold like 4.1 million units in 2017 GLOBALLY, it sold 4.3 million just in the US in 2017... They've proven to have unreliable figures which have already been invalidated.

When I hear numbers like that, I always think; Yeah, but how many have since died? How many are collecting dust in a closet? How many were smashed to bits by some jackass on Youtubue? How many are sitting on a used game store shelf? How many are actually still in use? How many are OG's? How many are Slims? How many are Pro's? How many are new and still sitting on a store shelf? The list goes on.......

I mean, it's great to hear that the console I chose as my main has sold so well, but.....but....I need more detailed stats.

Aside from the presumed "hiding hardware numbers" thing, that is why Microsoft moved to engagement figures. What you just said is actually one of the very things they notated.

But 1st why do you want those stat? Detailed info cost money, unless it related to your bussiness i see no reason why any1 would want it.

Why would you want unit sold figures? Unless it's related to your business I see no reason why anyone would want it.

See how easily that is flipped on its head?

I guess reaching 100m is a safe bet.

Good news for Insomniac. Very happy for their success. I just started playing Spider-Man and am having a blast.

Unit sold is a marketing tool for a company, thats why u can have it for free. Detailed stat like how many A hardware, how many B hardware sold, where it sell most, when it sell most ect...is different. Its a company strategy, there’s no way you can have that info. Or it must cost you very much$$$$$$

Sony must make ps5 retrocompatible to maintain those 90 million users and even increase them...

if only Sony could read my comment, only 1 thing should do well to win the next gen

Sold through numbers != shipped to retailers also shipped to retailers with continuous new orders over the years, lack of overabubdant inventory even at a anecdotal level, no temporary sudden price drops for many months, and no shipment of consoles back to Sony (happened with Wii U), ... then shipped to retailers == sold.
Also, the number of PSN users (which is essentially PlayStation customers essentially is also very very healthy). Under essentialy angle, they are doing a very good job and are positioning themselves wel for the next generation.

After PS2's success Sony became cocky and they thought they could sell console with high price with barely any game when it first launched. Lets hope for PS5 Sony again doesn't get cocky because of PS4's success.

ps3 was a massive success for Sony which helped them push blu-ray which is now on both consoles

Not at the beginning. PS3 was very expensive and barely had any game to play when it first got released. Second half did much, much better.

Bluray in other consoles means nothing for Sony, the PS3 nearly bankrupted the company it wasn't a success. This success should help the reserves for quite awhile but.

Over 90 million active monthly users? Fuck, that's even more impressive than the sold through number, imo.
That across PS4, PS3, Vita and services like PS Now on PC.

Even so it is impressive.

PSN is actually the bigest gaming service together with Steam that are at 90m MAUs.

After 5 years on the market:

PS2: 100 million
Wii: 93.4 million
PS4: 91.6 million
PS1: 73 million

If Japan hadn't died and become what it is, it probably would have done better than the PS2.

PS2 is still behind PS4.

Wii data is shipment, no? PS4 is sold-thought that means it is tracking really close Wii right now most because Wii fall big after 4th year... PS4 will be comfortable ahead it in few months or perhaps it already is.

Poor thread title as Spider-Man 9M should have been in it also, a bit too eager to post IMO.
Selling 5.6M more globally than 2018 is huge, especially since a decline has been expected for a while now.
Yet here we stand with 2019 looking just as great as 2018, these figures are within my prediction though.
I expect them to be at around 95 for this FY and 110M for the next, at least that has been my guess for a while and thus making it Sony's 2nd best sold console (PS2 > PS4 > PS1 > PSP > PS3)

GerAlt-Right. Ciriously.
Damn, based on all the “I’m done with Sony” threads on GAF, here I was thinking that the PS4 had stopped selling.

I guess that means Sony will be lucky to get 10% of those sales next gen.

yes this is sarcasm

Woah congrats! I was skeptical but it looks like 100+ mil ps4 is really possible.
Beating PS2 is where it's heading.....

So much for the lowball projections from Sony at 16 million, revised to 17 million etc...

I think Sony could have sold even more units if they kept the spiderman bundle for longer and had stock, but I think profit is more important now since they're heading fullfledged into a new gen, they will need that money to make PS5 a monster console, improve the PSN and merge many of their services on top of other investments for new games and IP's.......And yes, this definitely makes the numbers more impressive...

I think 2019 is going to be their biggest year yet, with all those third party exclusives, so many good Japanese based games, so even Japan will get a boost in sales......Yet, with Sony's biggest game rumored to be landing this year (TLOU2), I think they will outdo 2017 in sales.......Coupled with some really appealing third party software (DMC5, Sekiro, Ace Combat)....I see even larger appeal for PS4 worlwide this year....

Sounds like you want to bring intersectionality to the console world. "I need to catagorize and sort and then judge!" :p

I don't see how it matters tbh.
