The Division 2 Is Ditching Steam For The Epic Games Store On PC

I’m not a pc gamer so I don’t really understand all the hate towards Epic Store.

Competition should be a good thing?

I’ve just had a look and the store looks sooo much nicer on the surface. Steam is so dated and ugly, you can tell they have no competition to worry about.

I don’t get it?!

all the ubisoft games i would buy from gmg or humble bundle so those activate directly to uplay launcher anyways.

I’m buying it on Xbox one x anyway, but, I would have had this on steam or nothing at all on the pc platform. Shame.

As much as I hate exclusives, competition is good!

Hopefully it gives Valve a kick up the backside and gives them enough of a scare to actually get them innovating again, rather than relying on the golden goose that is the Steam Store.

I wasn't interested in the game before and I'm still not interested in the game after this... but it's a curious move by Ubisoft.
Will all Ubisoft games from now on be Epic Store exclusive? Far Cry New Dawn is on Steam...

From the business standpoint, smart move by epic on keep money hatting games, the easiest way to diversify their business since fortnight won’t last as long as a successful store, blizzard and riot is slow on that front and are struggling to diversify their income stream.

Competition is good, very good, but there's a catch.
There's no user reviews or forums on the Epic Launcher, because Epic deems those harmful and want to you base your purchasing decision on whatever influencers and gaming journalists tell you instead.
I want to be able to make an informed purchase and a system like Steam's User Reviews is the best possible metric.

I’m not sure it’s so much hate for Epic Launcher as it is people really prefer to have their library consolidated in one place, and that place preferably Steam due to features and services made available on that platform.

What? Those were the best days, without shitty DRM like Steam, online-activation, limited installs etc.

I would've found myself agreeing with this around 5 years ago, but now I've found myself buying games online that I already own on disk, just for the convenience of not having to hunt for the disks, then install them with whatever prehistoric DRM they had on them (remember StarForce? Yeesh...) and make sure they're inserted whenever the game runs.

I struggle with whether that's a sensible thing to do, or whether I'm part of the problem. :messenger_pensive:

So much for cutting out the middle man and selling it your own store amirite?

Yes I know they are selling on their own store, but why even bother with Epic?

There are more people playing Fortnite (and use Epic Launcher) than there are Steam total users not just active.
Game is insanely popular which means there are shitload of people who use Epic store.

The day Microsoft announce Game Pass for Windows will probably be another blow for Valve.

There is gamepass for Windows. I am playing FH4 through it right now...... (for 2$ at that lol)
though it is kind of small compared to xbox one version.

Still they get ball rolling and it will only improve.

So much for wanting to open up to many players as possible. When they see sales dip for this game, they will crawl back to Steam.

That isn`t what they mean by "We`re going to release Game Pass on PC".

wants to fuck an Asian grill.
Capcom, Square, Sega, and Namco will likely be moving to Epic too. Would not be surprised if Resident Evil 8 does not come to Steam.

Unless Steam responds to this power play by Epic, which it hasn't yet done.

Yeah and its cheaper to when using GMG. Uplay is not that bad IMO....actually loads up games just as quick like steam. Rockstars launcher on the other hand...took me a few hours just to load up GTA V.

Because this isn`t compeition. Competition would be to release the same game on different stores. Now we`re forced to use Epic`s garbage store without any features.

If this keeps happening I guess Steam will lower their cut, which is good for devs, but it's kinda shit for consumers in the meantime. I've got lots of issues with Steam and prefer to buy DRM free whenever I can, but Steam's done better by consumers than most online game stores and their refund policy is great IMO.

Ah OK and Tencent is evil then? Like Huawei-levels of questionable tech sending secrets to who knows where?
Nah it's just their a Chinese company with a lot of money and a lot of hands in the gaming industry and a bunch of other industries. Which has people worried. As they have taken over some companies before.

Why can't they release the game on all 3 platforms? Ubi, Epic and Steam store??? So annoying.

The people that hate Steam? Are the people that are sour about Half Life 3? Look, I'm annoyed about that too but in terms of PC stores, Steam is still the most feature rich. Origin, Ubi store and Epic store can't hold a candle to it.

Competition is not good when the other platforms are doing jackshit to catch up to Steam. They are sitting there staying stale. Publishers getting a higher profit is not a plus for consumers. Maybe if that extra 10% profit made them stop with microtransactions and GAAS it would be good for consumers but we know that won't happen.

I will not use the Epic/Tencent launcher. Period.

I was going to buy Division 2, and was actually excited for it. Now, it's a no-buy.

edit: n/m. I missed the part where they're still selling it through their own launcher. I'll do that, albeit reluctantly.

U'd rather Ubis launcher than Epics launcher?
Why tho.......

People keep saying 'exclusives on pc' and I don't get it.

I have a ps4 and there is no way of me buying and playing Forza because it's on a different piece of hardware.

All this requires is clicking on a different icon?

I like the idea of having every game in one place which is why I stopped playing on pc after the battlefield and mass effect games stopped launching on Steam but I always had the ability to play those games with no extra hardware or expense.

So why do people compare the two?

Totally fine with them doing this, only midly interested in picking it up and if they don't want to put it on my preferred platform, I'm fine with not buying it.

Do I get controller input, family sharing, big picture mode, achivements, refunds, chat and community forums on the Epic launcher?

The true winner will be Discord. It already pretty much murdered all publisher platform chats and voice chats.

It's just so strange. Who in their right mind is going to say "I don't like the ubi launcher but I like the epic launcher"

Unless the game will be cheaper on the epic store why the fuck would I buy the game there instead of directly from ubi? Shit makes no sense.

I like choice and I don't have the emotional hand wringing about having another launcher but from a business side this makes so little sense.

Family sharing doesn't even work with Uplay games on Steam. Did that change? Pretty sure not, but I'll check in a sec.

Stream controller support is hit and miss with Uplay games through Steam, but if it'd work there, it'll work in this scenario.

So, I mean Steam loyalists can buy through Uplay, link the game in Steam and have pretty much the same experience.

You'd miss out on achievements and trading cards, and that's it, I think.

I'll be laughing if the PC sales were so disappointing that Ubi had to make a u-turn and sell it back onto Steam.

They probably know that. More people will probably buy the game trough Uplay, and with the money Epic threw at them, it'll probably be fine.

DS4 support? Isn’t that Steam only.

Never been able to get it to work in uplay
