Personally I jumped on Destiny with The Taken King and enjoyed my time. Destiny 2 didn't appeal to me after doing some research it seemed like a step back in way.
I don't know any of their blunders were activision's fault but I hope this is good news for them.

Activision had nothing to do with their shitty tools and game overhauls. They gave Bungie a lot of rope - enough to hang themselves with Destiny 2.

Destiny 2 was basically what D1 should have been. Good campaign, fun gameplay, great raids - just didn't have a lot of staying power (which I personally don't mind, I prefer a game that has an end outside of MMORPGs).

Activision will no longer be unhappy about losing more money on the investment, and Bungie can grow the franchise/company as they see fit. Likely that the game will be better for it (in the short term), but long-term might not be as good for Bungie (money and stability-wise) than if they'd stuck with Activision and done more of what they wanted..

Because Bungie bought it (or otherwise compensated Activision in expected return related to the IP or other exit clauses).

I don't know what the contract looked liked, but I would imagine it HEAVILY favored the publisher. Bungie had to do alot of things to break free of the agreement. Activision would not have just let this go without getting compensated for it.

I 100% agree; this makes me very interested in what's going on with Blizzard.

With their current crusade of "cost cutting," across the company, to me it would see this is par for the course on that.

Development studio willing to buy out your portion of the IP, as well as not having to shoulder the costs for a game they budgeted for much higher performance than they predicted.

Seems like a standard break up...I just want to know more about Bungie's dealings with them. I wonder if this whole cost cutting endevaor has been going on for longer than they've been publicly vocal about it.

It would explain why all the games seems to have changed focus on what they are mainly good at to what the successful parts of all their titles are and mashing them together.

I'm not, really. The large part of the costs are already taken care of; tons of assets and code already done...infrastructure already there for the online. Combine that with crowd funding (Eugh...) and presales, etc and you can publish a game off that.

Look at Shenmue 3, or Bloodstained!....yeah!.../s

Better case scenario for them would be to either get in bed with MS again or Sony. Sony should honestly really be on this since they're very lacking in the FPS genre. I doubt Nintendo is an option in any way and worst case scenario would probably be signing a deal with EA, which as always, sets the countdown clock to a studio's doom.

Destiny should be only Destiny with updates and expansions every year.

Destiny 2 should be only Destiny Year 3 or 3.0.

Even after Forsaken Destiny is a vast superior experience than Destiny 2.
