Hey sweet maybe MS can contract them to make a Halo game that doesn’t suck ass. Haven’t had one of those in a while.

Do you really think Activision had a negative influence? they probably put bungie on a pedestal, them getting to keep the ip is telling
Bungie is the only one to blame the state destiny is

Why wouldn’t Bungie they keep that which they own? The deal was made to NOT have another halo situation.

Bungie has to be one of the smartest (or luckiest) developers in the business right now. Unbelievable.
I wish them all the best and have no doubt they have an intelligently conceived roadmap for their future. This will be an interesting company to follow no doubt.

Can you imagine if MS bought them and reunited the Halo franchise with them? Probably would help both parties, honestly.

I don't want them back at the Halo franchise. 343 has made a better online then they ever did and with how Destiny is now..

Im not saying they shouldn't im saying that Activision probably did everything in their power to keep bungie happy
The only ones responsible for the state of destiny for better or for worse is bungie

This is for the best. I don't think Bungie will be joining anyone for a while. They just removed their ball and chain.

Right?

People were skeptical about leaving Microsoft. And while there’s tons of denial... destiny is bigger than halo, and better too (obviously — it replaced it). Then again I always officially considered destiny to be the real halo sequel.

To see them grow to the point of being able to publish is really cool. The writing was on the wall with the netease deal they made earlier last year. Best of luck. I’m on board for sure

I'm surprised they cared that much about taking the Destiny IP. They could throw darts at a wall full of generic ideas that could come up with just as good of a world.

what a good news! played Destiny 1 from the start and left Destiny 2 after Osiris because I'm just disappointed at the game as a whole. I still love the game's many different aspects. I hope Bungie the best of luck in their future endeavor and I might even jump back on Destiny 2 in a few months.

Making the game a looter with rpg elements certainly gives a huge boost to pve replayability. Adding the pvepvp option is just awesome though. PVP on the other hand seemed pretty weak to me.

Why?

The company becomes independent and the first thing people think is, “my platform of choice should buy them?”

Their games are already coming to both systems, so why do they need to be bought again?

Maybe they will shine more with their independence.
because sonys FPS games generally have been trash

Probably what happened was that some PE company got wind of the publishing deal Bungie had, ran their numbers and figured it’d be a profitable endeavour to foot the separation bill for Bungie, against a share in the company or share of profits. Or, in case there was no change in ownership, Bungie had accummulated a big enough war chest themselves.

I don’t see this impacting games much one way or another. I doubt Activision had that much say in the game.

Halo: dead

Call of Duty is still king baby. You can't mess with the king.

Seems to me they have ambitions for the Asian market, NetEase investing $100m up front is a pretty significant initial move.

Agreed. They didn't go through this with Activision just to sign up or get bought out by another publisher/company.

Remember, Activision said they'd be doubling down on monetizing their games because they had some shitty financial quarters.

A good time as any for Bungie to dip out and self publish. Hopefully we'll see a return of warmer/friendlier community relations between
Bungie and fans now that Activision isn't calling the shots anymore.

A really good start to showing Destiny fans some good will would be the total removal of Eververse from the game. Let's see what happens.

Oh and Destiny 1 on PC please? I'd play through it again on PC!

This. I don't trust Bungie with Halo at all. Firing Marty and hiring a meme (Luke) tells you everything you need to know.

Marty left because of activision and the use of his music as well as development disputes over destiny ... with activision.

I’m not blaming activision for anything. Destiny has been something special and forsaken continues that. It’s been a fun journey... problem is.. now I want d3 sooner rather than more d2

Yeah, IMO, the only good Halo game outside H5 was CE, but I'm in the minority on this one. I liked H3 okay as well, but I don't want to see them touch this franchise again. H5 is a step in the right direction for me and I don't want Bungie screwing that up with their anti-competitive biases.

>sign contract with Activision to deliver game every 2 years with expansions in between
>reboot development of the first game, cut a ton of content, launch it in a dire state
>somewhat fix it with expansions
>reboot the second game, throw away a ton of content
>renegotiate the contract, get one extra year
>first game goes on life support
>launch a turd, pad it with content literally stolen from the first game
>follow it up with turdlets developed mostly by outside teams
>...
>Activision is the villain

Activision probably thought their days of development hell (Myth 2, Halo: CE, Halo 2 and that expansion) were over lol

The f2p Korean version of d2 is a thing. I doubt activision is involved.

And I wouldn’t be surprised if that version of destiny is beginning to make money.

How so?

I think the idea would be for console exclusivity

Honestly, yes I do.

Welcome to destiny discussions. Where both those who don’t play it and those who play it for 4k hrs both hate the game yet love to talk about it for 6 years plus ... counting.

I started finding it funny when I first visited Bungie forums and saw the complete shitshow it was seeing people crying nerf and “har har persona 5 is coming out who plays destiny daed game!!!! Har har!”

Meanwhile bfv debuts to strong sales and can’t touch destiny’s player engagement in its launch week.

Bungie is in a good place to launch their next venture. It’s risky sure but it’s rare to see this happen in the modern game industry outside of overnight phenomena

Don't get too excited. They've signed a $100,000,000 deal with NetEase to make non Destiny IP.
Until they split from that, I don't really consider them fully independent.

I forgot about that injection of cash they got from Netease. Bungie mobile games coming?

I dunno man...with new leadership I guess it there's maybe a slight chance Bungie would go back to Microsoft...but they already said they wanted to self publish...so being acquired all over again doesn't make sense.

As much as I am happy for Bungie, if I'm being realistic, I am expecting a much slower stream of content from Bungie moving forward. The DLC's and Forsaken was made with help from 2 other studios if I'm not wrong, High Moon Studios and Vicarious Visions (?). That's a substantial amount of manpower gone from the game development. Being independent now and having an always critical community/fanbase, I don't think Bungie can afford any missteps now that they don't have a big safety net anymore.

Obviously I only hope for the best for Bungie, and I look forward, more than ever, to what they do with Destiny but I'm tempering my expectations a bit.

Bungie needs to do something that is far from the Halo style FPS as possible. Desinty was terrible in my opinion. But who was to blame Bungie or Activision? Probably both.

Activision Blizzard Stock Nosedives After Bungie/Destiny Split

While Destiny 2: Forsaken might have failed to reach Activision's commercial sales expectations, it still means that the publisher is losing a revenue stream.

So it's no surprise, then, that Activision Blizzard's stock price dropped dramatically after the news was made public. Investors were seemingly spooked at the idea of Activision Blizzard losing a revenue-contributor.

The company's share price fell by almost 7 percent in after-hours trading today on the New York Stock Exchange. The news was released after the stock market closed, so it'll be intriguing to watch the share price tomorrow when the market opens.

The annual release schedule from Activision that Bungie agreed to is responsible for a lot of the woes of the Destiny franchise. That’s not to say that Bungie haven’t screwed things up - but without that release schedule, they could’ve taken the necessary time to correct their muck ups.

This change removes the time constraint, however it doesn’t necessarily fix Bungie’s internal problems. After Destiny 2 imploded their franchise, that already had a rocky reputation after the first game, they need Destiny 3 is be a return to form. A Bungie game of the highest quality.

I’m more optimistic about their ability to actually deliver this now, however we’re five major releases into their franchise, so thats a cautionary optimism.

I like the idea of Sony picking them up because they really could use a good 1st party first person shooter factory. However, I don’t like the thought of their future games becoming exclusive to one console, so nope.

Woah, just reading the news, it will be interesting to see what will Bungie do, I dont think they want to become a Studio within a publisher, thwy will remain independent. Exciting times ahead.

Who knows, perhaps they'll start making good Destiny games now? Now Bungie has to prove it was Activision that forced them to make bad decisions.

Maybe if Activision had kept the IP they could have put a competent developer on it.

Unfortunately it'll just be Bungie continuing to destroy their game.

All the creative resets and technical hurdles were problems of Bungie's own making. I dont doubt Activision monetization oversight was a detriment, but I can't see how this split equates to a brighter future for Destiny. It just means Activision saw more value to its internal studios working on other projects instead of churning out expansions to save Bungie's lackluster base installments.
