Shadow Legend's New Trailer Makes it Look Like a Janky/Potentially Cool VR WRPG

Cores, shaders and BIOS oh my!
So the graphics might be more pre-last gen than the next Elder Scrolls but this looks like it's shaping up decently.

It reminds me of Eurojank RPGs (but it's an indie dev so duh) with the various simulation aspects, except in VR :messenger_relieved:

My worry is it's a new dev with only a couple other way smaller games (though one has good reviews on Steam). It might be too ambitious of them to try and make such a large game well enough. The only other such serious RPG project I know of is The Soulkeeper and it looks way better visually, almost Skyrim-like, but with VR (and really non VR) it's all about the gameplay systems and campaign so we'll see.

The developers of this game aren't exactly Bethesda large either so yeah, that's ambitious also. This one also has an early access version already but it has very mixed reviews, hopefully they will improve it a lot.

The strides VR made in the past 5 years is incredible to me. I think it has finally broken through, and games like this prove it.

Would be neat to see this implemented in a simulation-world like Kingdom Come Deliverance (sans the potion craafting and crystal mining and other fantasy stuff).

Yeah some of the stuff in the trailer reminded me of it, but simpler. But if anyone does it hopefully the tech is better than Kingdom Come's or less strained otherwise good luck getting that 90+ VR fps, lol.

People playing such games will also need to kinda behave, same as you kinda have to in Elder Scrolls too but with it being more intuitive and easier to mess around with shit you'll probably break everything scripted and the AI and every semblance of immersion just by simply going in a shop and deciding to throw all the random junk on the floor or something, or filling a whole jouse with junk or whatever, lol.

I can see that happening, I'm the opposite, though. VR gives me the feeling that I'm an actor doing a role in my own movie, so I find myself often trying not to "break the script" a lot more than in flat gaming, strangely enough.

Both of these games look awesome to me. My dream game would be to lose myself in a medieval/fantasy VR world.

I agree Shadow Legend looks sweet (The SoulKeeper has more to prove given the early access reception, maybe they jumped the gun) that's why I made a thread. I hope it hankers back to eurojank classics like Gothic. Still, games with melee combat in VR need to take a look at Blade & Sorcery, it's like some Mount&Blade VR shit with all the stuff you can do semi-convincingly with its physics and systems :)

The game itself seems pretty limited, just wave fighting, and it even looks like Mount&Blade visually, ha, but it's made by one guy and his description is pretty damn apt, if smug:
Blade & Sorcery is a built-for-VR medieval fantasy sandbox with full physics driven melee, ranged and magic combat. Become a powerful warrior, ranger or sorcerer and devastate your enemies. The era of the VR weightless, wiggle-sword combat is over. Blade & Sorcery is a medieval fantasy sandbox like no other, focusing on melee, ranged and magic combat that fully utilizes a unique and realistic physics driven interaction and combat system. Built exclusively for VR, collisions are dictated by fine hitboxes, objects have weight and follow the laws of physics, creatures have full body physics and presence, and blades can be used to penetrate soft materials or deflect magic.

I can see that happening, I'm the opposite, though. VR gives me the feeling that I'm an actor doing a role in my own movie, so I find myself often trying not to "break the script" a lot more than in flat gaming, strangely enough.
I tend to behave in non VR games too, so much so I often find it hard to play the bad guy in an RPG that allows it, ha, never mind try to intentionally overload its systems and make it go all wonky on purpose...

Missed adding this to my reply before, you can make potions in Kingdom Come and it's a pretty involving process there until your character masters it and can auto-brew them, I quite liked those elements.
