"I wanted to snap the disc in half." - When has game design made you really angry? Share your stories here.

It's darn early into Just Cause 4. I've barely taken over any territory, and I'm given a mission where I have to get three sets of codes. After I gather the codes, I learn that the data is encoded, and I have to decode it or the data is worthless. A transmitter antenna is raised, and I'm told that I need to defend the transmitter. I quickly grapple into the air, and then come the drones. They start attacking, and I start to shoot them. I'm parachuting around, and attempting a "death from above" approach. Every time, I'm running out of ammo, and they blow up the transmitter. Making matters worse, the previous sections had weapon crates I could access, and this part does not. Mercifully, there's a checkpoint right before the transmitter part, so I don't have to get the codes every time.

After several failures, I decided I'd mostly use my grapple. I equip explosive balloons, and start to take out the drones, but they're just too hard to hit that quickly from the air. Then I realize that the transmitter is a tower, and it has two platforms that I can stand on. Now I can quickly tie the drones together, and deal with them that way. Then come the helicopters. They're a little more resilient, but I can still deal with them. Then come even more waves of helicopters and drones, and then things get really unfair. As I'm standing on the tower, the enemies start attacking from so far away that my grapple can't reach them anymore, my guns don't do enough damage quickly enough, and I can't refill my heavy weapons because there are no darn weapon crates anywhere!

At this point, I've tried fighting from the higher transmitter platform, the lower transmitter platform, tried shooting enemies while above them, tried to grapple the enemies together, tried to shoot the enemies that are too far away to be grappled to, tried to parachute and grapple to the enemies, and I'm just never fast enough. I've failed what feels like at least a dozen times now, and I'm pretty sure I'm just done with the game. I'm not having fun anymore, and this seems to be a ridiculous task to ask of players who are only a couple hours into your massive standbox game.

As a last resort, I had to at least see what a successful run for the mission looks like. So I typed "Just Cause 4 defend the transmitter" into you tube, and that's when I saw this:

Mercenaries 2. I can't remember exactly what happened but the UI kept fucking up with some timer or something and I got so mad I ripped the disc out of my PS3 and threw it at the wall like a frisbee. Fuck that game.

Please dont hate me.. but i threw away prey disc as I could not get true the beginning lol
I hope you don't mean the 2006 Prey.

Okay, so there's the obviously shit games, like Alone in the Dark, Aliens: Colonial Marines, and The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, but I also gotta mention The Witcher 2.

I love the first Witcher, it's easily one of my favorite games, and I loved the third game as well, but oh man did I hate playing through The Witcher 2. I often hear the complaint that the combat's too hard, but I think that's because people are trying too much. What you're supposed to do isn't block, dodge, or use magic. You're supposed to mash light attack. I literally came up with a test for video game combat by playing that game, where I'd close my eyes and spam left click, hell I even turned off my monitor during the first Letho fight, because jesus fuck is that combat broken. It made the game a chore to play through.
I didn't like the map design, I didn't like that there were fewer dialogue options than in the last game, I didn't really like all that much about the game. I preferred the eurojanky first game over this generic fantasy hack & slash.
I replayed the game to lead myself into TW3, but even on the hardest difficulty, I found it to be the same as before. I'm probably done trying to like it.

If you're curious, the Arkham games were playable when I tried that test, but I died when I tried it in Mad Max and Shadow of Mordor. The fun in Arkham's not about the challenge of the fights though, it's about racking up a combo and using varied moves, so I find this excusable.

After discovering all the shitty level scaling, copy pasted areas, much touted 'radiant AI' , repeating mudcrab conversations, ect...

I did take the Oblivion disc and frisbee that shit as far as I could out my top floor window.

Final Fantasy XIII-2’s Temporal Anomalies. “Take some time our to solve an annoying math puzzle.” Fuck that.

The easier ones you can solve fairly quickly just by trial and error, but you have to be freaking Rainman to solve the bigger ones, so you’re most likely just going to spend several minutes randomly trying shit until you get lucky.

Thankfully someone wrote a solver for these, so you just plug in the numbers and it tells you the moves.

I’m still baffled that anybody thought this was a good idea.

Just played through Turok 1 and 2 remakes. I consider myself a fan of both, but the design is frankly dogshit. I think everyone knows why, it just made me laugh what I tolerated in the 90s from my games. Turok 2 in particular has some of the most convoluted levels ever made, game-essential items hidden behind destructible walls with no tells, save once per hour sometimes, bottomless pits for no reason, weapon hit detection that doesnt work half the time, mean spirited design to give "value for money", ie: stop you completing it by killing you arbitrarily. Oh and the ultimate crime of design, respawning health and ammo on slow timers, basically admitting the entire thing is broken. I had fun, but theyre also shit.

Pretty sure the combat is broken in all of them if you just constantly use the quen sign.

operation flashpoint games on the ps3....

fuck that shit man
Made by completely different devs from the ones that did the legendary OFP: Cold War Crisis game. It's pretty much Operation Flashpoint only in name.

Much like Bethesda's shitty Fallout games.

Only once - I decided to give Fallout 3 a chance I started playing and tutorial was good and pretty climatic - then I left shelter and went into first area - then I was hit with typical Oblivion design and when first fight started I engaged VATS - game hanged on the stop but I have seen enough of it so i clicked eject button on my dvd drive (it was still era of physical pc games), pulled dvd out of it and throw it into the wall.

Thankfully disc wasn't damaged so I sold it and never touched any Bethesda made rpg ever since.

I don’t remember any time that happened to me.

Even bad combat design like The Witcher 3, Final Fabtasy XV and Red Dead Redemption 2 I could get used to it.

I know and feel it is terrible but I can avoid the issues while playing.

As much as I love the Destiny games, they have what I call a "360 degrees of death" problem where, if you're critically hurt, you have zero chance of finding cover to recuperate because you're surrounded by enemies. It can be frustrating when you take one bad hit and, no matter how well you evade everything, you're as good as dead.

Splatoon made me punch my WiiU gamepad and break the screen (I really regret doing that).

Here's another. Pokemon Sun/Moon. The tutorial was infuriating, and goddamn did I hate every single one of those characters, Lillie most of all. Maybe the worst part of the whole game though is, when I finally beat that hellish hand-holding tutorial, the fucking credits started rolling. Can you believe it?

Playing through the Kingdom Hearts series getting ready for 3, I'd say there's been a point a the last boss in nearly all of them where I've wanted to snap the disc. The difficulty curb always suddenly shoots up to ridiculous levels compared to the rest of the stuff you've had to do till that point. They also all tend to spam unending, stunlock combos and have anywhere from 3 to 6 never ending segments.

Really? That surprises me. I could agree with some of the secret bosses - but the final bosses for most of the games are pretty easy to beat assuming you block/dodge and are of a sufficient level (usually around 40-50).

However, those secret bosses have angered me so bloody much. KH1 FM, KH2 FM, and BBS FM all caused me untold amounts of annoyance and muffled rage.

I seem to remember some very cheap AI in both Bio F.R.E.A.K.S. and Cardinal SYN for the PS1. Could also be because I was a terrible player, but who knows?

Lots of things from Dark Souls series. One that came to mind was the Smelter Demon (right?) the one in the fire/lava area. Took me so fucking long to beat him.

Fortnite has that effect on me...I swear, the bs that happens sometimes in that game just infuriates me. Every season it seems to get worse and I find myself playing it less and less.

Haven't really played any Fortnite, but after many 3rd place finishes in PUBG and never a Chicken Dinner, I can kinda relate. Unless you're speaking on different things.

Ever since call of duty i've had an issue with dropshotters and bunny hop players. Fortnite is literally that x1000.

Agreed. I'm guilty of being a dirty drop-shotter in COD for sure, but when that shit happens to you, oh man. I can feel the rage.

Sorry to hear it, though. Anger used to get the best of me (and certain items I owned), but I thankfully got past that. Hopefully your Wii screen sacrifice was not in vain. At least a mistake that you learn from isn't all bad.

And you don't seem to be alone, either. I wrote "wanted" to snap the disc in half, but it looks like there's a number of you who took it a step past that.

OP, but the AA gun is literally right next to the console.

In my defense:

The game never had me use an AA gun before that point, the dialogue never suggested it was a possibility, I had been conditioned to think "bright red and white = enemy hardware = destroy" so I ignored it for the more pressing matter, the AA gun kind of looks like a box or a transformer unless you move the camera to see the gun barrels, and plenty of others in the you tube comments expressed the same frustration with not realizing there was an AA gun.

Not in my defense:

It was RIGHT THERE!

Loved the style of darkest dungeon so I gave it a shot. It drives you nuts when the bad RNG kicks in. I didn’t destroy anything but this game really made me mad, like the characters that I played.

Another one is fifa, all of them, they have the potential to destroy friendships.

I've become an avid user of Google. If I fail at a mission 2-3 times, fuck pride, Google, exactly because of scenarios like yours. It's not pretty but it gets the job done, and I ain't got time for dickin around for hypothetical solutions anymore.

As for disc breaking... Dark Souls 1 and Demon Souls got me very close a few times. Ornstein and Smogh or whatever, fuck them. Also the final boss of FFXIII-2 and the final boss of MGS Revengence. I gave up on that shit, uninstall.

I do not blame you, in fact I would even throw away the console that reproduced that garbage
