I just read all of the Negima! manga and the supplementary material mentioned Read or Die. Apparently Akamatsu is a fan and a manga artist that helped with Read or Dream helped design the character Yue.

Pacing is slightly rushed.
But then I love slow burning shows so I'm probably wrong.
Animation/Drawing is slightly sloppy but it doesn't distract from the story so I guess it's fine.
I've been following the manga series so I'm glad I can enjoy the story again all the way from the very beginning
but I feel this episode is not as impactful as it could have been.

Have you watched Konosuba, Overlord or Magi? All 3 of those are great, first is more comedy focused, second is kinda mix between comedy and action and the last is a more serious action show that is really entertaining.

I love Overlord. Whats the best way to watch Konosuba? I have been meaning to watch it but crunchyroll sucks ass and it isn't on Hulu.

I've not seen the original Gridman either but read some stuff after finishing this new anime.
Apparently she's the descendant of a kaiju who was spared by Gridman after defeating it in the original series and that large kaiju that appears behind her near the end is that same kaiju (she says it has a debt to repay to Gridman).
Also, the real-world Akane looks a lot like Rikka, and Akane said earlier in the series that Rikka's shop was a place where "unwanted things are thrown away to be forgotten". I think that may have been an intentional metaphor, real-world Akane likely became a hikikomori (shut-in) due to feeling unwanted by the people in her life.
Also, a Youtube comment had ROFL'ing. "You do realize this whole anime was secretly an isekai?"

I don't watch anime, but my sister really likes Cardcaptor Sakura and I didn't think it was that bad. I remember she watched the edited U.S. version, which aired episodes out of order, and then she bought all the DVDs of the Japanese releases, because in her words, the international releases are always "butchered" and Pocket Monsters is like that as well. That was a show I loved, prior to 2001.

I like the art style, reminds me of older anime shows. Also the pace was rushed. I didn't like the cg for the background during that one scene, but other than that I am interested in this series and Dororo so far.Promised Neverland - Episode 01

Not seen the Promised Neverland anime yet but the first chapter is like 40+ pages and was well paced so unless they added more content besides that into episode 1 then I dunno.

Konosuba.
Give the Light Novels of DanMachi a chance if you like to read. There's also the Sword Oratoria spinoff anime..... but I don't think that was as good. There's a movie coming out this year as well.
If you can find it you can also read it. Also I think the both of these animes are great.
PS: I have not find the City Hunter Manga at all. I read a huge part of Cat's eye but my Anime collectors bootleg box is much better

For a funny fantasy series I also recommend Magical Circle Guru Guru (Mahoujin Guru Guru) (2017). It was a remake of an anime series from the early 90's that was a riff on Dragon Quest, it was also produced at the time by Enix! This recent remake was produced by Square-Enix.

Started reading Seishun no buta yarou because I wanted to know about Shouko-san but don't feel like waiting for a stupid movie. Was surprised the ending of the anime has such a significant difference from the light novels.
Aside from that I am pretty disappointed by S3 of Index so far, but I imagine anyone who is watching it feels the same.

I could never bring myself to give the "cute girls doing cute things" genre a fair shake. I'm fairly certain I'd enjoy K-On but I have refused to watch it out of principle...

Konosuba was the show that got me interested in anime again, beyond sporadic watches. It's hilarious, sort of like It's Always Sunny meets Slayers.

Yes, Yomiko is a pretty iconic design I'm sure most people would recognize, it's just not something they've probably thought about in years.
It actually did get a limited edition Blu Ray release in 2011, however it was pretty damn expensive, I think I paid like $150 which I only did because I'm such a superfan.
It'd be nice if got another cheaper re-release to make it more easily available for people, though I think R.O.D The TV was on Crunchyroll for a time.

Yeah, I know, the blu-ray release went out print really quickly. It's damn near impossible to get nowadays.
It's one of the few anime series that has strong action heroines that are actually well written.

Ronja the Robber's Daughter is so underrated. You have a studio specializing mostly in cinema movies doing a full TV series. Maybe 3d character animation was offputting, but even so it is the bestI've seen in anime. Ghibili added some fluidity so they dont move like puppets. Background and music productions are very high. Same for English dub which surprisingly features Gillian Anderson as the narrator.
I'd say this is the spiritual successor to the defunct World Masterpiece Theater
I liked reading Cats Eye, but after that was not in the mood to read the authors other works, though Family Compo is different. That formula gets tiresome after a while. Character development was not the manga's forte. But action scenes made up for it. A classic for sure.

Many isekai's have slavery built in as they are set in fantasy worlds set in the past. It's actually pretty accurate since humans used to enslave each other. Why would they not enslave other races for monetary gain since we think so little of each other while being the same race?

That and the circumstances forced the MC to buy a slave. Just before he ran into the trader, three people tried to mug him after "joining" his party. Everyone hates him and won't help him because of a false allegation. And then, there are those people who try to take advantage of his situation for their own monetary gain.
Though that one person on MAL keeps claiming that Shield Hero depicts slavery in a positive light and thus, is promoting slavery. And I'm just like... wat??

It sounds like it is examining circumstantial morality, rather than just promoting modern morality and decrying everything else and trying to erase it. If you are placed into this situation in a different world with a completely different history from our own, what would you do? That's a hallmark of fantasy.
From what I read about the series,
they become his friends who act like Gut's Band and help to heal his emotional wounds

That person obviously hasn't actually read Shield Hero then the series doesn't have anything positive to say about it. It's just that the hero has to do it out of necessity because of his circumstances. Even then, he has a lot reservations about it constantly. It'd get into spoilers to discuss it so I'll save it for another time but Naofumi is definitely not the character people think he is. In fact, neither is the author really.
From an overall standpoint, the series is pretty much the opposite of what folks are saying about the first episode. Most of the influential and powerful characters outside of the heroes are women. Naofumi himself empowers the women in his life to become stronger while continuing to face his own demons. The show's backdrop involves a lot of human and demi-human relations which, of course, includes bits about prejudice, xenophobia, and racism. Naofumi's entire initial circumstance is him facing prejudice because he's the Shield Hero, something he didn't choose to be. It's a pretty obvious thing, lol.
I do understand some of the apprehension but there was a lot of jumping to conclusions about it, which is probably par for the course in the current climate.
I don't think you really need the spoiler but yeah, the crew/party act as the main attackers in the group since the Shield Hero is very limited offensively. They also help him to begin facing his own trust issues both in a direct and indirect away throughout the tale. The relationships they have are pretty great and really kind of forms the core of what makes the show, IMO.
