The builds have changed but it's function and potential haven't. It's just that no matter how many of us tried to explain, people still thought it was 'just a bit better than LBP'.
I recall Dreams as people controlling some magic wands via Move controllers. Looked pretty poor, but I haven't kept up with it.

Glad to see the new potential.

That must've been a lack of imagination on your part then, because I don't see how Dream's potential suddenly changed over the years.
It's probably MM's art direction that threw people off.

It was and that's because people continued to call it a game. Even now people call it a game. Because people called it a game and then decided to check this 'game' out, they inevitably thought Dreams was the campaign when Dreams was actually the tools MM made the campaign with. No matter how many times I tried to explain that the art style is MMs, people just didn't get it ... some still don't for some odd reason.

Great indie games like "Adr1ft" could also easily be made in Dreams with stellar graphics !

Not really. Their reveal trailer showed pretty basic graphics. So I'd say people not thinking much of it then was pretty apt.

That video proves my point though.

MM's art direction threw people off and tbh, me too to some extent, until this PT footage proved what I had been assuming these past few years.

Anyone who has been following Dreams should've known what potential Dreams has.

Other people maybe should've payed a bit more attention and less sceptic.

Yeah, I still call it a game myself too. It's kind of confusing how to label it, imo.

It's only natural that a consumer of games would consider something they're going to consume, a game. I think to fully come to grips with our place in Dreams, we have to consider ourselves developers, not consumers, although, obviously, there's a consumer element to it too.

If consumers don't understand a product, it's always the seller to be blamed on. Sony is AGAIN doing a very bad job of marketing when it comes to something out of the standard blockbuster they are so much invested in. Just seeing how they themselves overlooked Astro Bot (!!!!!) before lunch (and before ravaging reviews) speaks a lot about their awareness on this kind of games or experiences.

They need a CM only focused on this game: communicate properly what it is, what it allows to do within it, how you can create whatever you feel like, from games to MUSIC and MOVIES, etc.

Honestly, I dont trust Sony to do any of this and it will be up to us (like in PSVR's case) the ones doing the marketing job.

Well, you can't really blame people for not expecting much based on that then. People judged based on what they saw.

"Could the game do realistic graphics? Who knows. If it could, why didn't the devs show it? Maybe the game can only do these sorta graphics."

That's a perfectly legitimate line of thinking based on that trailer. People that imagine it to be more than that are the ones being unrealistic.

Yeah, the marketing for this game hasn't been that good at all.
It's....a ....hallway. ?! What is the big deal?

The person was able to create this in Dreams. That's what makes it so impressive.

People are looking at the small games people are creating and asking themselves, "What can I create?" or "What type of things are we going to see when this game gets released?"

The Encounter demo is much more impressive.
I want to see how this scales. Can we create big levels, with many A.I. / NPCs, animations, scenarios / sequences, like the little robot that interacts with the player and the environment based on where the player is... ? Cool demos are OK but the gamers will want more.

You kind of ignored the rest of what I said in my previous reply.

Besides, I don't "blame" anyone.
If you only watched the very first trailer, than yeah, I get why one would think realistic graphics might not be possible.
But we've had numerous videos since then throughout these years. It was pretty clear that things beyond what we were shown were possible.

Anyway, this isn't really worth a discussion.
Luckily, the PT vid shows what Dreams is capable of, which is all that matters.

agreed - granted its still very very early, theres gonna need to be some substance than just "look at this semi accurate recreation of pop culture game/film/etc. that you can walk around in"

Yeah it’s something I wanted to try. Glad to see people are already doing amasing stuff. Fluid simulations would be cool also !

Good job this thread is about Dreams and its potential then isn't it. What about Encounter above? Is that overrated too?
Good job my post was about PT and it being overrated. What about the fanbois? How the fuck can you become a die hard fan of a demo that's been remade 50times on every engine and beat a drum like it's the best thing ever.

Because that demo is by far the best horror-experience.

Having gotten in on the early access, I couldn't resist to hop in and play the P.T. recreation having played the orignal demo when it landed on the PS Store.

Now its not 100%, there are definitely some details missing, in paintings, the photo realistic pictures of family members, grains in the wood floor aren't as detailed, some scenes are outright missing but the overall feel, considering this was made in a fucking beta, sweet fuck, my impression is I can't wait until the full meal deal comes out, VR support and lots of user shared/ created content to go around.

After playing this beta recreation, Dreams will be a juggernaut in the hands of capable creators, in general and add so much to PSVR. My only concern is, hopefully not too many user created stuff is pulled due to licensing.

I dont get all these remaking crap of nintendo IP’s it is always worse.
Why do people keep doing this XD

I guess it can be cool to show off one's mastery by creating something amazing with Dreams, a lot of views and praise,

but here we are talking about games, would someone really prefer playing some small game inspired by some original game rather than playing that original game itself? Is it all worth the effort?

Inb4 someone got hired by a big company because of Dreams :messenger_grinning_sweat:
