I don't think Death Stranding will be as good as people are hoping

I'm sorry but thats complete BS. It is very possible people genuinely enjoy the game or are you one of those people who assume people pretend to like the game just because you personally don't like it?

I absolutely loved the walking gameplay.

Exploring vast and beautiful locations knowing that you are one of the very few persons alive in the entire earth, is an awesome set for a different style of gameplay.

I want to explore that apocaliptic loneliness through the gameplay.

Death Stranding has an excellent shot at being GOTY.
Games tend to never meet the hype levels of anything, its going to be a good game with great protental and Death stranding 2 or even 3 will raise the bar (hopefully) if there is no blunders. but being GOTY? maybe but I think CyberPunk has better chance of winning that since its not a PS4 exclusive, as well other merits.

VGA is mostly popularity contest. Which game will win base on which one is more papular.

Red dead was more popular with more hype but gow won it.
Both had crazy hype behind them and both bunch of 10 in reviews. The only reason it felt like RDR2 had more hype at that time because it was more recently released and it was still fresh in people's mind. To me it definetly feels like VGA mostly popular contest especially this year seeing MHW win best RPG and RDR 2 win best soundtrack over Octopath.

My stance is that a game has less chance of being this "game of the year" if it is a exclusive. but not impossible, Sony has pulled it off before with last of us.
Cyberpunk in my mind has higher chance of being so (against Death stranding), but you never know it might be a other game that takes our hearts as GOTY.

No, It's not going to be star-field.

I just hope there won't be any toilet humor this time.

Apparently, Kojima thought that we were emotionally attached to Johnny shitting his pants.

Still, love his games.
A lot.

I'm definitely very on the fence about it. Just in terms of whether it will be for me or not, not in any "objective" sense.

I'm pretty fatigued on traversing around big, mostly empty worlds. MGSV was a snooze fest at times with having to deal with traversing the boring world to get to the mission area. The little they've shown of this makes me fear that more of that is coming.

But a lot of people love that stuff, love traversing around worlds like RDR2 and BOTW and so on so it's not an objective flaw or anything. Just a type of gameplay I'm not that fond of. A good story will get me to still enjoy it though, as was the case with RDR2.

Then you have to consider rather or not CyberPunk does everything the public wants it to do. Its probably impossible to consider what next year's GOTY will be. Kingdom Hearts 3 could be Game of the Year, but its probably too confusing in terms of storytelling and its getting released so early in the year. Resident Evil 2 is a remake, possibly one of the best alternatives to the original game, but could it get GOTY? I don't know to be honest. Best horror game? Yes, definitely. Then you have Sekiro and DMC5, which will probably satisfy the gamer more than some board of journalists and opinion polls. All the games I've mentioned sound great to me, personal GOTY and what not.

Death Stranding could knock the socks off of gamers. So did MGS and its cast of sometimes weird characters. While CyberPunk is the multiplatform game from a well known developer. The only thing holding it back is its final build and how well it plays.

Death Stranding could excel in many different ways. Not only technical, but voice talent and storytelling. Kojima isn't David Cage type of character building. He has his own style. What if CyberPunk gets the Fallout 4 treatment or performs poorly? I have really enjoyed the Witcher games and the work CD Projekt Red has done (even with GOG).

This feels like I'm fighting dirty, but the ties with the VGA's and Kojima might help. Honestly though, with the voice cast/models of Death Stranding as they are now; I have no doubt that it will be a game worth playing in 2019 or whenever it releases.

If they would have made it in Dreams, it would have been everything they hoped for and more.

Sucks they went a different way. I could see the headlines now “Kojima fixes US criminals” now they are saints.

It’s u fortunate Kojima used his own engine instead.

It's obviously not just going to be a walking simulator. That completely goes against what Kojima has always been about. It'll have a ton of depth to it, and all the gameplay systems/quirks will intertwine perfectly. Each level will be a sandbox with a ton of options/quests and you'll probably have so many options as far as weapons/customization that you won't even get use it all (MGSV and it's unlockable weapon customization comes to mind; never even unlocked that system before I "beat" the game; also the million different octocamo camos and costumes in MGS4, or the mood altering sleep darts). If anything, the game will be bloated to the point that less than 1% of players will actually 100% it. Kojima's games always are. If you're expecting simplicity, you'll be (pleasantly) surprised.

EDIT: Also, it'll be a GOTY contender, if not outright GOTY.

I hate when people use this forum as a couch in a psych's office.
Right? So why does it’s sucess make or break some of your psyches?

It’s certainly no Crackdown 3, but I’m sure it’ll be good in it’s own way.

Considering the evidence of the contrary, free to dismiss it, do you have evidence of this? Articles, rumours, etc...?
Based on fellow co workers Kojima got paid a salary
So he just took as long as he wanted before he was pressured into "finishing" the game
Something he never did. I'm not expecting DS to release until 2023.

Thanks for replying :). Being paid a salary and confined away from the team as reported would not make it easy. Why do that and make it difficult for him to do so?

They are a company. If you have a project and have an unfinished product and you use up all your budget they will be pretty unhappy about that I reckon. Honestly they should have resumed work and finished MGS5 with or without Kojima. But either way they knew the game would sell on name alone.

game looks like something you think up when you are on an acid trip and have alot of money to burn
could turn out to be the Room of videogames and years from now they will release a game about making this game and you get to play as kojima and wander around a mansion pissing in jars and ordering your game studio to do things...and norman reedus is your boyfreind

Some of you guys are sparing too much salt too soon. I would wait for the game to release and start getting 10 and 9 all over the place cos you will need the ammunition when that happens.

On other note, it's pretty pathetic to trash an AAA game that tries something different. Then, those same people will complain that companies go the easy way with battle-royale and the likes.

It really bothers me the way some people will attack a game just for being different as well.

I cringe to think what the reaction to Silent Hill 2 versus Halo would be today, back in 2001 SH2 was able to gain enough of a cult following that it wasn't completely overshadowed by Halo, because gamers were more open minded back then, today I fear it would be dismissed as "stupid" or whatever.

In the case you mention that was console-warring since both games are masterpieces and unique in their own ways. In these days of multiplayer-focused games and cash-grab attempts risky projects like this should be supported or at least not trolled on. If the game sucks, media and players will shred it to pieces. Until that is proved it would be nice for naysayers to hold their horses.

I'll wait for the whole gameplay loop to be revealed to give my opinion.

No point in hyping while we didn't see how the game really is yet, it just leads to disappointment, like MGSV did.

Just visited Days Gone and saw dozens of people complaining about basically zombie game is a formulaic tedious game/they re playing it safe with this game

And then here in Death Stranding people complain about what game is that what the heck is going on here weird game doesn't make sense etc

And then I remember God of War and Horizon Zero Dawn threat from couple years ago people complaining about open world games are played out boring, this game is not god of war it's a walking simulator etc

Above I see people complain about Devil May Cry V for having outdated mechanic. And then I realize the same people also complaining about DmC for being too different

Can we just smack these absolute gobshite people 👊👊👊👊👊 getting tired with people whining everyday on this website take an antidepressant if you need medication, complaining about videogames won't fix your problem

Here's some burgers and fries to cheer your days 🍔🍔🍟🍟

Personally speaking, Death Stranding looks interesting. I love science-fiction & I like what I've seen of the artstyle. But, I have zero hope it'll be "good" in the truest sense because Kojima hasn't made a decent video game since Snake Eater back in 2004. MGS4 was a convoluted mess with archaic controls (even at the time), disappointing level design/bosses & bad AI, whilst MGS5 isn't even a real single player story-driven game, but just a hybrid open world stealth simulator/base builder.

Kojima's fanbase remains loyally committed to overhyping his work though, including partaking in a sort of viral hype in which everything (from screenshots to little details revealed) becomes overanalysed to hell & back in order to create buzz & pretend they've discovered some sort of hidden message or something (who can forget the unintentionally hilarious GAF threads after every MGS5/Ground Zeroes reveal years ago in which psychoanalyzing pixels was pushed to an insane level? Now in 2019, hardly anyone gives a flying-f*ck about Ishmael or a metal fragment stuck in Snake's head).

Yeah. While I am interested in the game, I won't be getting any kind of hype boner from this until we get a trailer with gameplay that doesn't consist of walking. Cyberpunk 2077 is something that actually has my interest compared to Death Stranding, probably because it had a demo with actual gameplay.

? huh? He has not "only worked on metal gear". Worked on P.T and Silent Hills, Castlevania series, Boktai, Zone Of Enders etc He is known most for Metal Gear, he has not only worked on Metal Gear....

A cancelled game, generic mech games with weird anime plot lines, a game that only got some western interest due to a cameo in Mega Man Battle Network, and Metal Gear?

Theres a reason most only know him for Metal Gear .

Orrrrrrr because SH2 was also on PS2, the then best and fastest selling console which Halo wasn't on because it was an Xbox exclusive.

I love how haters diminish the people who know the lore and know how to connect things.

And oh boy, this type of hater is awesome too. So everything Kojima has done outside of Metal Gear is crap, so he only made one good thing once, maybe twice. He is a hack with good luck, everybody.

But let's remember some of his games:

Snatcher. A game that has a cult following and that some people utterly love and claim to be one of the best games ever. But I guess is just some "weird Blade Runner anime copy" and we call it a day.

Policenauts. Another gem, but is more "weird plot anime trash", so that is bad. You don't want animu in your videogames.

Zone Of The Enders. A good game, but again it has those silly anime robots from Evangelimoon or something. It's also just a good game, not a masterpiece, so another fail.

Boktai. Another good, fun and innovative game. But still anime, ewww. Is this Kojimbo japanese or something? What a freak.

The PT demo doesn't count, despite being awesome as fuck. And creating one of the most influential, innovative and greatest games ever was just a one time thing, so it doesn't count neither, obviously.

There's a reason everybody knows Kojima for Metal Gear, the same way that most know Bruce Springsteen for Born In The USA. They haven't done anything else remarkable outside of that, obviously.

Fucking hacks, I'm telling you.

what are you talking about? MGSV was released within 3 years of it's announcement:

"Development Without Borders" announcement Feb 2012
Ground Zeroes released March 2014
The Phantom Pain release Sept 2015

it came in two packages, like MGS2's two chapters, except those were initially sold as separate entries. Metal Gear Solid V: Ground Zeroes and Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. the full MGSV has 5 endings with full credits across the two games.

Ground Zeroes ending
Skullface ending
The Truth ending
Quiet ending
FOB ending

the only unfinished thing to surface has been a single cutscene that would have repeated a boss fight already in MGSV several times. data-mining revealed very little, only a title card from early in development, and no unused maps. most unfinished rumors are the result of a reddit fake that claimed there were 5 chapters. it was entirely made up.

Last Kojima work reaches perfection in gameplay and it was not perfect in story because Konami and Kojima break up before finish the last chapters.

So it is hard to believe his new work won’t be amazing.

I just imagine what he did working with his ex and now what he will do with his new.

I'm the opposite. Never cared for the metal gear solid series but highly interested in death stranding.

I hate celebrities faces on characters but that's minor.

I once played & loved MGS 2 on hard difficulty, fighting against 12 Metal Gears at the end with Raiden. I also played & loved MGS 3 multiple times (& methodically completed MGS4 as well). So cut the cr*p, i.e. understanding the difference between lore & inconsequential convoluted nonsense is why I jumped off the Kojima train a long time ago. As Kojima dug deeper & deeper into narrative shite, his most ardent defenders could always be counted upon to screech "haters!" at those of us who smelt the coffee.

Thanks for confirming my post, though. My advice? Go & fry an egg, i.e. I'm certain you'll find something to "connect" & understand when gazing at that frying pan. The rest of us will just shrug & move on.
