Anthem was exactly as boring as I predicted

If anything people were asking why Apex Legends was releasing so close to Anthem. People thought it was being sent to die like Titanfall 2. It wouldn't surprise me if even EA thought Apex Legends was going to flop. Came out of nowhere, no hype leading to release, in a genre completely dominated by a single game despite heavy competition.
Yep I’m 100% positive EA didn’t think apex was going to go back and forth with Fortnite and apex has been basically at the top of the twitch page since release. I kinda feel bad for Anthem but damn EA is crazy.

I played the anthem demo on PS4 recently. It was “okay”.

I still don’t understand what the game is even about after the demo. It had nice visuals and ran well on a standard PS4 in 1080P — but the whole thing just feels kinda hollow. It has a very generic feel to it and uninspired. Doesn’t seem like the usual BioWare game which are usually polished and narrative driven.

I expect this to be a bust. It’s so generic. I don’t think anyone will be talking about this game too long after release and it will be discounted into oblivion.

Anthem needs to do well or else this is another advertised for Xbox game that bombs like Fallout 76.

Bioware wasn't really known for the best gameplay loops known-to-gaming from the get-go. If it was Platinum games, I would consider it possible. They're known for building interesting Worlds, which Anthem looks to be. Within that World though, what is there really to do? Looks like a pretty mediocre Destiny clone with interesting flight mechanics.

I was hoping I would be wrong when the demos looked boring. After having some hands on - unfortunately true.

Somehow I thought this game was coming out in March!

Feb 22nd. Yeah, competing with Farcry and Metro does not bode well.

Game looks generic as heck....sadly I can't get excited about it. I may try it , but I am not expecting much.

Which is surprising. I guess the BR trend is so strong they have to get out Apex asap.

EA typically focuses on one shooter at a time. And the time they did a two prong approach (TF2 + BF1) it was a disaster. EA execs probably think a F2P BR shooter won't cross paths with a Destiny kind of game, so it'll be a nice 1-2 combo covering all bases. Then there's BFV for WWII fans. So 3 bases really.

My opinion..... Anthem is done. What they should have done is release Apex in maybe April. That would give Anthem two months head start at full price.
Fiscal year end March 31 :)

Gameplay loops, destiny clone, warframe clone, generic, no heart or soul, EA EA EA.....How many empty catchphrases and hollow "critiques" do I have to read as a long time lurker? It's a looter shooter, no more no less. How does this elude people who "know" and "luv" games?

I could be wrong, but isn't Beta mostly for MP games and Demo are usually for single player games like DMCV.

Not really. Using a food analogy, think of a demo as a free sample at the market, where the hope is that you'll like it and buy it, whereas a beta is more akin to you tasting something that is still a work-in-progress to help the cook decide if it needs more seasoning.

I see, we just usually see "beta" in MP games because they want to stress test the connections.

is bioware technically bioware without the doctors?

i feel like if EA could give them one last budget for a Mass Effect game. One last fantasy. If its a success build the sequel if not go belly up but i think EA owes the staff one last budget.

so the majority of you dont explain why its boring. its just boring. i can find you all jobs on your favorite video game review websites. i can introduce you
I generally find it difficult to write much about games that I find boring. I can easily write pages over pages about games I love and adore or games I hate with the burning passion of a thousand suns, but if it's "meh"? Meh...

The problem with EA and other big publishers is that they no longer care about making games that are "just" successful and make a good amount of money. They want all their games to be the next Fortnite or COD or GTA V.

It's not like the last game that was worked on by the core Bioware team was a flop. Online opinions about DA:I have taken a more negative turn in recent times but we can't forget it was still reportedly their best selling game to date, it got a respectable 89 Metascore and it got a bunch GOTY awards (in probably the weakest year for gaming in the past decade...but still).
But a good selling, well reviewed, goty winning game isn't enough.... it needs to make more money and it needs people to spend a lot on it every month.

At this point I expect the Dragon Age title they are working on to be some sort of coop, loot focused hybrid between Diablo and Destiny

I'm just going to buy 1 month of EA Access Premium for £15. Its less than a third the price of the game, and i doubt i would be playing it for more than a month anyway.

It's so ironic that the game was code named "Dylan" because Bioware wanted it to be "the Bob Dylan if video games" ie a game people will be talking about for years to come.

They'll be doing good if it's remembered in another year.

This is the one that hurts the most for me, such a cool world with so much potential and it was never followed up on.

I think I have to read a lot of opinions before I purchase the game. I just want to make sure I'm not wasting $60 on the game. I pray it's not a Destiny clone. I've been burned twice by the two Destiny games.

You are out of your mind if you think those two games will provide any sort of competition for Anthem. I am looking forward to Metro, but be real, its a niche title at best and was not very successful. Far Cry is a spin off. Anthem will outsell both of them or I will eat a raw onion, and I hate onions.

Hollywood director? Indie director would fit the bill a bit tighter. So yeah, not doing to bad actually.
Then I guess loosing the Alien movie and having Chappie and Elysian fail is "doing pretty good". Look I don't hate the guy but to say he is doing just fine is just lying to yourself. I guarantee you he would rather be making that Alien movie right now. Most people now view him as a one trick pony but I wish him all the best, at the end of the day we all just want to see good movies.

You act like he lost the Alien movie because of his own fault. He lost it because after announcing it Ridley Scott decided he would come back to make another. He didn't lose it due to any fault of his own, afaik.

All I'm saying is the guy isn't doing bad. Him loosing the Aliens movie is a shame considering Covenant is what we got. Ridley Scott pulled a power move and got it shelved. There's your washed up hack. Plus, plenty of great directors have movies fail. "The Thing" was both a critical and commercial flop. But I completely get what your saying, I just dont see how I'm lying to myself knowing what hes up to presently.

GAF has become Gfaqs? Nice blog, I love how your personal opinion (which isnt backed up with any substance) is important enough to be thread worthy.

Important enough to have more people agree with me and make three pages. Also this whole site is nothing but opinions. Why is yours so much better than mine? Either way I had a good laugh at your comment.

Farcry 5 outsold anything BioWare has put out. So no, I’m not out of my mind to think it could provide serious competition. As for Metro, I’m fine with the argument that Anthem will outsell it but it’s still a big title that MS is promoting.

Boring and grindy is something I expect from every bullet sponge shooters where enemies bleed numbers when you shoot them.

Game seems boring as hell and soulless. The expeditions reminds me of Mass Effect missions.

Between some of BioWare's old games they were one of my favorite devs, sucks they turned into a me too dev house trying to compete in a bloated shooter scene rather than competing/dominating in a smaller RPG market..
