Anthem reviews are starting to drop [literally]

Well now people can appreciate a bit how good Bungie did with Destiny :D

They are still the only successful case of this type o game... and they did that in 2014.

What? I love Destiny, but you are delusional.
Delusional with what? lol

Destiny at launch was a way better game Han Anthem... it is not even comparable.

What you see is all the big companies trying to create it own “Destiny” without touch a finger of what Bungie did.

Do you want another ME after the last one??? They already showed that they couldn’t do a good ME again.
It was done by a different part of BW with a messed up development. I'm sure with the proper development time and resources the main studio could do a good job.

"only successful case of this type o game" unless you have very limited criteria

Not surprised. The core of a good game is there but it feels so incomplete in its current state. Between the technical issues and the lack of content, it’s pretty disappointing.

I wanted this game to be good. I’ll still pick it up someday if/when it improves substantially.

Still feeling depressed after seeing the EA vampires drain the life out of another good game studio.

They gave it to the 'B team', and even then considering the final product was largely thrown together in 18 months, it was a lot better than it had any business being.

Regardless it'll definitely be a while before we see more Mass Effect. Assuming the Anthem dumpster fire doesn't kill Bioware, we'll likely see another Dragon Age first, and as it is that may be years away.

But yes, plenty of people want another Mass Effect.

I'm not. I have no faith in anything by EA these days. All about the monetization and many of their studios have had the same issues.

Literally every big game gets its own review thread. Why is this one any different?

It absolutely should have its own review thread. For those who want to enjoy Anthem for what it is, they should be able to enjoy talking about the game without pages of people laughing at how Gamespot gave it a 6.

This not being the OT for Anthem, though, can you believe Gamespot gave this a 6! Woah. BioWare, what are you doing? "Add loot and co-op to Mass Effect." How hard would that have been? Why did you ignore the storytelling that people buy your games for? Why did you give us this bland universe with no characters to talk to, outside of one little area? Why did you create a game world with so little variety? This is just sad.

Also I guess the mythical day 1 patch doesn't make the game any more fun.. Im shocked!

EDIT: Looking at the bug thread the patch actually made some things like performance far worse

It made performance worse me in some areas.

Frames I'm up, particularly in the rain. But I'm experiencing disconnects and desyncs that I didn't before. Maybe anecdotal. IDK.

Destiny was the only game of the type to reach massive success and the only one to that even today.

Division failed.
Anthem failed.
Division failed so much that its sequel is about to launch?.
Hated Destiny, loved The Division, and like Anthem.

Going purely by reviews (as of this post), the oft cited BioWare B team that handled Mass Effect managed to cobble something together in 18 months that can stand next to the what the BioWare A team managed to make in 6 years

BioWare needs to do something that's clearly in their wheelhouse for their next game. No more Open World Frostbyte fetch quest busy work simulators - dial back the quippy smart-ass characters. Do something smaller and more focused instead of another overly ambitious story that's never backed up in any meaningful way by gameplay.

But seriously, take time to get the tech right before pushing out another <<LOADING PLEASE WAIT>>

Performence is worse for me as well. cpu usage went up about 10% per core. Luckily i have been locking it to 1440p/30 for that consistency.

Game seemed heavily rushed, like almost all looter shooters.

Publishers should just make these games F2P and make their money on the cosmetic stuff. The Destiny model seems flawed. Or just go full MMO.

i'd speculate that the 'success' was because of bungie's brand name, and the franchise itself was the 'first' of all these GaaS's.

Or maybe Destiny really nailed gameplay loop... something that they did forget with Destiny 2.

Hype Train conductor. Works harder than it steams.
I said meh when I first saw it.
Looks like I was right.

Destiny had great gunplay, graphics, exotic gear to chase and a fantastic raid. And it was a blast to play with friends. No, its "success" was due to actually being a good game despite its flaws.

I'd argue that division failed to be THE destiny killer. But it was successful and a good game that is vastly improved now.

I've only played the demo of Destiny 2 which I liked but not enough to play further. For those who played the demo of Anthem, is it comparable to Destiny2 or very different? I've seen the commercials which show a lot of airborne combat which looks exactly like Destiny 2.... just in the air

Is this game different enough or closer to a clone?

I lost any interest from the moment it was revealed to be a loot shooter, but it's still sad to hear it doesn't even appear to be a good one.
What a waste, the world is pretty cool, I liked the flying mechanics in the demo and the art direction is a bit derivative but nice. In some alternate universe this could have been a cool single player (or coop) Bioware style RPG. They could have tried to be a game for everyone disappointed by the broken promises of a cool world and story in Destiny.

Not too many reviews so far though. I expect it will end somewhere in the 70's once most of them are out

Since they are both loot shooters the overall structure feels pretty similar.
But based on the demo I like the combat in Destiny A LOT better. The gunplay is much nicer, the performance more stable (though I've heard the final version of Anthem runs better than the demo) and the whole experience feels smoother (like for example being able to access your inventory and character customization at any moment and without having to go through a load screen)

Another AAAA game bites the dust.

But is this really going to be it for Bioware? I mean, they make guaranteed million sellers don't they? Just go back to AAA and make another Dragon's Dogma or something.
