Opinion: A $99 Disc-less Xbox One could lead to another Kinect-level success!

I don't know what's worse about this thread. The fact that people think they can shave $150+ off a console by removing the disc drive or fanboys taking the bait and saying "Even if it was $50 it wouldn't be worth it!"

It might be worth it for some, but the masses price isn't the only factor, even at $125-150, it might move some units but I would think the potential Xbox announcements of Xbox Two and the ability to play Xbox games on Windows 10 would counter act the limited sales. At this late in the gen, its doesn't really matter much, Microsoft isn't going to change its strategy even if the Xbox One Cheap sold well, because that is the whole reason why they are going cheap - to get people into their digital eco-system.

My guess is after they start officially announcing some of these services and features the world get flooded by used Xbox One Xs.

The people that think a hardware console war is still going on don't appear to be listening to Microsoft. Microsoft could give two shits as to whether someone buys their console, they just want people in their digital eco-system, they would rather people just install games on the PC from the Microsoft Store. They just trying to salvage their remaining customer base for the MOVE.

The thing is, why would people want a $99 Xbox? The X at least offers the best console graphics. But the regular Xbox basically has a worse game selection than the PS4 and worse graphics

At Black Friday, our stole sold out of the PS4 Spiderman bundle basically immediately. OTOH, I was the only one that bought the Xbox S Horizon 4 bundle. Okay, it was $220, not $200, but still, 1 vs 100s of sales.

Best console graphics? You mean best multiplats. The distinction of best console graphics still goes to the PS4 exclusives like GOW and Horizon amongst others. And for some it's subjective as well.

But yes some fans are drooling once again at anything tht they feel will vindicate them and finally turn the tables. This has been done in the last few years several times from dx12 magic, to Crackdown 3,to the cloud to now this. All never reaching their hyperbolic goals and fan claims. Others sincerely enough are excited at just having new hardware Ala a streaming box.

Imo the most a discless Xbox will do iffffffff cheap enough is draw in some more sales from a more casual crowd. This better not be more than 150 bcus it'll be dead on arrival. I have an Xbox s and there is no reason for me to buy this, if I never had an Xbox maybe.

By the way Xbox One S is selling for $219 - $269 bundled with different games while PS4 & Switch are still outselling it by a large amount at $299 without any games.

Selling PS4 Spider Man bundles for $199 was hurting Sony more than it was helping a few months ago so a $99 Xbox One will have to make some major cuts to sell at that price without eating into profits.

Would this $99 Xbox One be sold without a controller?

Let's see. Lower the price of a console dramatically and it will sell like hotcakes for awhile? Not exactly a watershed observation there. :)

Plus it's unrealistic (and really fantasy anyway) to think that can get automagically reduce the price down to $100 (~60% discount) by removing a disc drive.

And ...I think many who get a console later in the lifecycle when it's cheap look forward to buying used games for dirt cheap - something you can't do with a discless X1.

Also the X1 gets pretty cheap during the holidays as it is. Sub $200 bundles with a couple of great games and even an extra controller have been the norm the past few xmas seasons for the X1.

I sold my Xbox One S a good while ago but I do have a decent little digital library on there, and even more if you include BC. I'd jump back in at $99, but I don't think it's at all likely.

You need to stop replying to on topic posts with garbage while complaining about other members contributions. Hypocrisy is not a good look.
There is also the obvious fact that a stand alone BR player has a lot more to it than a disc drive.. And that the player must be sold at profit. Lot of simple people it seems.

Or one simple poster who spams the boards with a bunch of nonsense.

Lying about spamming again.

There's got to be something mentally wrong with you by always coming into these threads and basically posting the same tired negative stuff over and over again, at some point that's not going to work and you're actually going to have to start you know, engaging.

He is right thought... your poll threads looks like spam... they did not add nothing to discussion and are always biased to some side or other... there is some exceptions of course.

Said that I have no issue with you spamming the board.

I think is a good way to test the market. I mean, if they are really planning in go full digital, next generation. This would be a good start in order to see if people would be interested on that.

And particularly, since is streaming is very popular nowadays, it could be good for them to increase their user base and sell a lot more of game pass subscriptions.

Sounds like it would make the 'disc' xbox one's lose sales, and that combined with (probably) losing money on every console sold would just be a loss all around. Most potiental xbox one purchasers already have a pc, switch, and/or a ps4 so unless Xbox provides enticing exclusives there's no point in buying another box to hook into your tv.

Better to just work on the next generation and forget this one happened.
