Are You Still Going To Watch Marvel Movies?

“People also ask sometimes about Black Panther," he continued. "So, the notion of representation on screen, in front of and behind the camera, somebody asked me once, so is Black Panther a one-off? I said, no, it’s not a one-off. This is the future. This is the way the world is, and the way, certainly, our studio’s going to be run going forward, because it brings about better stories. The more diverse the group of people making the movie is, the better the stories."

You still watching?

Of course.

Why wouldn’t I?

I should stop watching because Black Panther is getting sequels? Black Panther was a decent flick. No issues there.

I don’t feel any MCU film has preached to me. Not even Captain Marvel. There’s like two short scenes that involve “feminism.”

It’s crazy what a hornets nest some comments from Brie Larson have stirred up.

Even in redlettermedia’s CM review they remark that it’s weird that people are still so mad about it. People create YouTube videos every single day about Larson. It’s like she murdered a whole family or something. She maybe put her foot in her mouth a little. She’s maybe not very likable. I get it. Move on.

And i prefer the comics, characters and stories from years ago. From before civil war and their fucking up of spiderman.

I've enjoyed these for 10 years.

Things like firing James Gunn for tweets or the divisive stuff around Captain Marvel is awful though. The MCU could eventually be killed for me like Star Wars was.

I don't give a shit about who's behind the scenes, as I don't give a shit who are the stars of the movies, provided that they're well acted. If the movies continue to entertain me, why would I stop?

I mean... You read this forum right?

Yes, which makes the question even stranger.

Whoa there slow down chief you know that role will be for Captain Marvel now. :messenger_grinning_squinting:

As for me I will go see End Game because it's been 10 years in the making, after that though... eh i'm getting bored of Marvel/Disney's formulaic movie approach.

If it means were going to start getting shit like America Chavez or the new Ms. Marvel probably not. The race/gender bending as been irritating enough the last few films.

Whether I keep going to theaters for MCU movies will really come down to what happens in and following the last Avengers movies. If the movie does not meet expectations for something building this long, or if the original cast starts moving on, I'll probably be ready for a break.

I'm not a fan anymore. I really liked the first two Iron Men, the first Cpt. America and the first Spiderman. I might watch the second Spiderman but aside from that I am pretty much done.

Give me more animated stuff like Spider-Verse, that movie was legit amazing.

If this one counts then yeah, this one is also very good.

I'll be happy to see any that interest me.

I see zero examples on the horizon. The way they are approaching subjects sure ain't endearing them to me.

Endgame is more than likely the last I'll watch at the cinema. Pretty excited to see the culmination of a decade of them, but I'm completely burnt out on superhero movies at this point. I've zero interest in Captain Marvel outside of all the bullshit drama from both sides.

Still, no reason I can't stick new ones on at home, even if it's a "background watch".

The question shouldn't be asked "is it a one off?"
It's a stupid question
Why would it be a one off.
Black Panther isn't something that's never been done before.
People just didn't pretend it was Oscar worthy.

Diversity is nothing bad. It is only bad if you make it your focus instead of the actual story and its characters. Ghostbusters is such an example or Last Jedi

As for not watching. I have never Watched Thor 2 and 3, Balckpanther and Dr. Strange because I was really not interested in them. I was the ones I think will be interesting

Sounds like a tricky question disguised as innocent one:

Short answer should be: fuck Yeah! I 'm all for good stories.

But after reading the article and comments within and the reply the OP has gave in this same thread I'd add this "narratives and agendas which are not related to the original comics are a different beast than a good story. They (narratives) can go fuck themselves."

I stopped watching them quite a while ago. It has nothing to do with the controversies but that I just started to be bored by the movies.
I think it was one of the Thor movies that did it. Then the laughably bad CGI in Age Of Ultron sealed the deal.

I just can't get hyped or excited by the movies any more.
I did eventually see Infinity War on DVD since it seemed everyone was saying it was the best movie ever. I didn't like it much.
It wasn't bad, just boring. I just found it bland, kind of more of the same, again.

The upcoming Shazam movie though. That one is something I can get excited about!

I'm watching less and less of what Hollywood has to offer. The preaching on these issues is a saint's mask pasted over an ever-unravelling web of sexual abuse, ideological brainwashing, and bribery.

Fuck Hollywood. Fuck the ideologues that run it. Fuck them for taking the playful and inspiring IPs of our childhood, monetizing them to death, and then leveraging them to insert the messages of the higher bidder under the guise of virtuous "equality".

After hearing some reviews of Captain Marvel I am definitely not seeing that. The idea of Nirvana music in this crap is too much for me to bear. I’m sure I’ll rent it eventually from Redbox but no reason to seek them out.

Prestige TV has brainwashed everyone into thinking crap is art as long as it looks good. People take this shit far too seriously these days. I feel like it’s a reflex of film critics who still want to cling to their Star Wars and comic book action figures and demand its serious now.

The Nolan Batman’s were really the start of all this. People insisting they were good movies not just good pulp fiction. Feel like we have crossed a threshold and lost a lot of things, a lot of the fun, from the high days of 80s pulp.

I'll watch them when they are good, but they are no longer "must see". I mean their have been 20 of them so far. How many times can you watch the same crap?

Also OP, can you be anymore bitter? Not everyone loves Captain Marvel. Get over it already

I watch less and less movies in general, including Marvel. I tend to only sit and watching stuff that has like 90+ metacritic b/c ain't nobody got time for other stuff.

I never really got into them. From what I've seen of the Avengers movies, they always struck me as being kind of cheesy and a little too bombastically American for my taste. =\

Just because people may vocally express their displeasure with certain things (the firing of James Gunn for 10 year old tweets or Brie Larson's white dude tirades) doesn't necessarily mean that they are obligated to cut something out of their lives. Personally, I think filmwise the MCU is generally a mixed bag, some good films, some bad ones and a fair amount of forgettable ones (truth be told).

Personally, I'm interested to see how matters conclude in Endgame as I very much enjoyed Infinity War, but I'm a tad concerned about where the movies are going to go beyond that if, as most people suspect both Iron Man and Captain America are toast, especially given GoTG 3 is indefinitely suspended. Still, we will wait and see.

I haven't seen one in theaters since Civil War. I watched Infinity War under protest because I'm sick to death of Stark and each movie being basically a trailer for the next one.

If I've lost all interest in Marvel's good characters, why would I give a shit about the next phases where they're gonna have to start mining characters several tiers below the C-list ones that are already getting movies of their own?

I got bored with them many movies ago. The last Avengers, Black Panther and few others I've never seen are on my subscription service, but I've no interest in watching them. They just aren't interesting.

Stopped watching Marvel movies after Spider-man. Nothing in particular about it that made me stop going. I didn't love it (and literally laughed out loud during the Shocker race switch moment lol), just got tired of their offerings. I feel like they don't do enough with their marquee names, I don't care about the reasons why, all I know is, growing up, I liked Spidey and the X-men, and Marvel proper has made like 1 spiderman movie, and Logan. Out of how many movies? Spider-man and Wolverine have to be 2 of their biggest names. They just focus on characters I have absolutely no love for, or even slight interest in. Give me a fucking Spider-man/X-men team up movie for fucks sake, make a Maximum Carnage movie or something.

Tbh I don't even watch new movies anymore, unless the GF wants to go see something. I'm happy spending my free time with fighting games and watching comfort content from the 80's and 90's/ youtube videos if I really need to veg on the couch and watch something for a bit.

Yes, of course I am gonna watch them! They may be formulaic and rote but they're still well made films with lots of fun to be had with the action and stories.

No i'm not going to watch Marvel films. But not because of the Politics or Social justice behind it.

I just find them boring.

My favorite super hero movies so far have been Watchmen and Glass , and i know those two get a lot of crap or may even have mixed reception but i loved them.

One of my favorite scenes was Dr.Manhattan being interviewed there was something about that period of time and making it seem like God (dr.manhattan) was put on trial that scene was executed so well. Even in Glass , i like the fact that there super but not so much super that they brought cities down, they had weaknesses and it felt like something like that could be real. That people who are capable of strange or awesome feats have been recorded but the stories over embellished to make the person seem mythical and throughout time that inspiration giving way to comics etc. I like M.Night did with Glass and i would love to see him develop that world

Like those movies i felt like played with more interesting elements. Would love to see more Superhero movies follow the path of the two i mentioned above, i like when movies play with the psychotic, the reality, skepticism, morality of a character.

Like the comedian in watchmen was a horrible sick bastard this dude killed unborn children, i think he was racist, also a rapist, just a depressed crazed individual.....and I LOVED THE CHARACTER. Marvel doesn't really make characters or heroes that are THAT REAL.

I think more movies should go beyond that line, not play it safe. But i understand the audience Marvel is trying to reach, but that just means that the movies aren't my cup of tea which is fine.

If the execution is good, I can enjoy and support themes that I don't agree with. Marvel still has pretty good execution. I haven't seen Captain Marvel.

I judge each film independently. Brie Larson's comments turned me off slightly, but I wasn't going to see it in theaters anyway because of superhero origin story fatigue. In general I actually want to reward Marvel, because they actually embrace fun, light-hearted, and bright movies. I get enough grimdark in print and on TV that I am sick of it.

Star Wars on the other hand... there seems to be a trend of subversion of expectations and some social commentary that I am not a fan of. But again I can enjoy social commentary and subversion of expectations if the execution is good. Star Wars reboot has 2 stinkers though and some of the reason why they stunk is they are trying to force PC commentary into the story.
