Rad. Certainly took a while, but it's finally happening.

Coming to Steam sets a good precedent as well, I just hope this is a sign that they've realised some users simply won't convert to using the MS Store.

What does this mean for other MS owned games, can we expect Gears of War or Forza on Steam too?
Is it a one-time thing, or an entirely new business strategy from MS?

Everyone that owns an Xbox also has a capable enough PC to run the game they way it’s meant to be played? Wow, it’s crazy to think more games on PC haven’t broken sales records.

I’m pretty sure consoles exist for those that can’t afford $800-$1000 plus on a proper gaming rig.

In the end, if you bought the game, they’ve won, do what you want. It’s good to have options.

No windows store version but Steam? At this point MS is why even bother competing on PC or console. They Gave up on their console and pc both lol. Im not gonna support such weak company next gen. Sony all the way .

I was under the assumption they are on PC already?

Yeah but in UWP and only on the Microsoft Store. I think the question is UWP at this point.

The console wars are over and have been, even Sony has been saying it.

Hopefully.

There was some leaks hinting that Microsoft will implement their upcoming Cross-Platform XDK to Steam.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Play Anywhere? Since I have this on Xbox already, do I need to buy the Windows Store version? I suppose it'd be too much to ask to get a Steam copy, but still being able to play it without buying it again would be nice.

Best news of the year so far :messenger_grinning:

Gonna be so good playing these afresh on PC... so many easter eggs to rediscover, and so much potential for modding on the Steam version.

Game requires also an xbox live account. I assume they'll add the network internally on win32 since old xbox live on PC is defunct

Not sure you can side load, that was my question up above as well.
It's been a while since I played around with the UWP format so my info may be incorrect.

UWP apps can be installed outside of the Microsoft Store. This requires either a) the user has enabled sideloading or b) the app is signed with a certificate that's trusted by the system. So it should be possible that they sign the UWP package with a certificate that's already trusted by the system and deliver it that way, if recent W10 versions come with a certificate that they can use for this.

Yeah you can sideload, sorry my post was worded poorly. Thank you for clarifying my bad post.

Reading all these anti-Xbox/Sony-loving posts in this thread

I for one just want Microsoft to compete and to be a little more honest with gamers, if they can/want to compete with other developers, I'm all for it... good games are good games. Some of their strategies with creating a "platform", I just can't get on board with that.

They release Gears of War trilogy on PS4, I'm probably there i.e. compete.

So it won't be a Play Anywhere title? I'm sure most of us who own it already on the Xbox One would've loved a free copy on the Windows store.

This is ridiculous. It's coming to the windows store too, they just said that they want to give people the choice and option to play on the plateform they prefer, which is a great thing. It just reads like you are trying way too hard to turn something great into a negative thing, just to defend Sony for some reason in a thread that isn't related to sony.

Can't watch the vid right now - does this include ODST?

Yes: https://www.halowaypoint.com/en-us/news/mcc-pc-halo-reach
Our current plan is for this journey to begin with the launch of Halo: Reach – the fictional beginnings of Master Chief’s saga – with the rest of the titles following in chronological order thereafter. Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved, Halo 2, Halo 3, Halo 3: ODST (Campaign), and Halo 4 will each be available for individual purchase within MCC as they become available.

Cool. But I had to read almost the entire first page of thread before finally finding out what "MCC" is. Some of these acronyms are too obscure to be on everyone's radar.
