SFV: Type Arcade now available in Japan (plus bonus archaic website!)

Street Fighter 5: Type Arcade is now officially available across dozens of venues in Japan featuring most if not all of the content to date currently playable though some alterations have been made when compared to the original console version.

The game mode selection has been essentially stripped down to Training and Arcade modes where players can decide whether they want to play strictly offline, with people in the store or with other players across the nation.

Players can actually link their Capcom Fighter's Network ID from the console version to Type Arcade which will bring over their previously purchased / unlocked costumes and colors though there may be some limitations to be found.

Existing player rankings will not carry over, however, as Type Arcade does away with the League Points of PlayStation 4 and PC and replaces them with Battle and Player Points similarly to Street Fighter 4. Unsurprisingly, Trashbox is currently the highest ranked player at the arcades just like he is at home.

I really wish the arcade scene was bigger over here, I would love to go to my local arcade, bring my stick, and load up my unlocked content. All I have access to at my local place is a SSFIV cabinet with American parts.

A new mobile site is also available for the new port to help players register and handle their data, but it appears to be something from an era long past in terms of the way it looks. Simplicity is the name of the game here considering the website has just a single static image for a background with multi-colored lines of plain text breaking up the sections.

Looks like ass, could've spent a little more time on that layout.

You can check out all of the current locations to find Street Fighter 5: Type Arcade on Taito's website, as well as some screenshots showing off the design differences below and the new key artwork from Shinkiro.

Man it's crazy how Freewebs and Expage are still popular almost 30 years later. Soon they may upgrade to Geocities or Dreamwweaver.

I can't view more than the front page of the site though, I didn't upgrade my shockwave flash, and my quicktime isn't updated to play Mpeg-2s, so I can't see those gif files video clips, maybe one day there will be animated image files that are easy to post and don't take up 30% of my dial-up causing severe lag.

BUT GOOD NEWS! My Dial-up after only 5 days has downloaded a 3rd of SFV to my harddrive, if the connection picks up I may finally have the full game downloaded before the end of the month. It's probably be faster if I wasn't also downloading Macromedia fireworks at the same time, but I need to get those presentations sheets to HR asap. I got the new $400 wireless Fax set-up at home.

(anyone ever tells you that computers and the internet were both better in the 90's punch them with a brick)

Bout time. This looks slick.

Nymphae Nymphae I'm not all that good but if you ever wanna throw down in some SF5 hit me up on PSN and we'll try to find a time.

For sure! For as much as I play, I'm not really very good either lol. I only started taking fighting games "seriously" when I got into this game, so although I have been slowly accruing the most basic of fighting game skills and execution since SF2 days, I just never put much time into gittin' gud at any of them. I'll add you to PSN tonight and we can figure something out.

God I want them to go back to 2D with the next one. How amazing would it be to have HD Shinkiro looking sprites?
Yeah, I'm watching Blanka in that pic and he does not look as good in-game.......Don't get me wrong I'm pretty fine with how SFV looks, I prefer to see it than most fighters this gen, but I wished we could hit such visuals next gen.....I'm not afraid of Capcom's animation quality however, they're just uncontested there.......

Though I will say, fighting games have generally disappointed me with their visuals this gen.....I'm not so much into the anime look like you, but that's fine, whatever they do I'm sure I'll be on board......Yet, I gravitate towards more realistic looking visuals.....What I would like to see is better hair (each individual strand), better skin shaders and bodily effects (sweat, brusies etc), better clothing materials, textures and stage effects, dust plumes, breakable areas, better colors etc.....

Yeah actually I really do like how both SF 4 & 5 look. I liked the backgrounds more in 4 and the overall vibrancy the game had (I fucking love the announcer), but there are some models I thought looked kind of stupid, I never liked how Ryu or Ken looked. I think I like the character designs and overall polish of 5 more. People talk shit about Ken's design, but honestly I really like how it's substantially different from Ryu for once, it works for Ken's style.

So as much as I do enjoy the visuals in these games, there is just something about 2D sprites man, you can't do better than great artists animating each and every frame.

lol I wouldn't say I'm "into the anime look" exactly, I'm not really a big anime fan. I love the Third Strike designs and how the game animates, and I just think SNK does really great sprite work.

But actually I would be super interested to see a street fighter game with HD sprites that went back to a pre-Alpha, more realistic SF2 style.

An aside, I wish they would get better music in SF. The SF2 themes are so classic, and I really like the Third Strike stuff, but it feels really generic to me or something now, I can't remember specific themes that aren't remixes of the old ones. I've been listening to the Guiilty Gear soundtracks a lot lately, fighting game music perfection.

Agreed Ken never bothered me, I'm a gief main, but ken was my secondary for a while.....I just go Gief now....

Actually, thinking about it, you know the anime graphcis quality I really liked, was the movies that played when you booted up SF4, just amazing anime visuals...If they did a game like that, it would be amazing...

Indestructible just made a dent into my membrane, but before that Marvel vs Capcom 2 and Capcom vs Snk 2 were just ridiculous for audio themes and cues and just pure aural orgasm...

I bought Guilty Gear so long ago and have hardly played it, really need to dab into that a bit more......

It's a slick and very cool intro, but I'm not sure I could deal with the heavy artistic stuff, the really strong ink lines and effects. I got a copy of USF4 with my 30th Anniversary preorder, and there is a costume variant that kind of adds those black lines to the models (I'm not sure when this costume variant was added to SF4), I found it really visually distracting. I'm sure they could make something heavily stylized work, but I like how "clean" 5 looks in comparison to 4 overall. I feel like most of the stages in 5 suck, though that Final Fight stage and all the CPT stages have some nice colour and are just more interesting to look at.

Incredible music indeed, I listen to those at work a lot lol. 3rd Strike soundtrack mostly though, bring back the drum & bass Capcom!

I have never been able to really get into GG, anime fighters in general really, but ever since I played GGX2 for PS2 I've been in love with the music.

square pies = communism
The website looks so middle of the road in terms of half-assed-ness. I'd have applauded them if Capcom went the extra mile to make it Space Jam levels of archaic.

Cool. Other than a couple duds, most of the SFV dlc stages have been very solid.

Yeah I like all of the DLC stages. I think the base stages are incredibly dull and lifeless though. A few have some splashes of colour, but for the most part I think they are garbage compared to every other SF game.

Yeah the core stages are ok-ish but probably the worst starting selection of the series. =P

While I don’t think it’s fair to compare the amazing Alpha 2 background to most stage backgrounds, since this is a direct translation of it, I think we can.

I’ve watched the video and this SFV stage looks terrible. It’s completely off the mark.

Watching Final Round this weekend. During the ads, there's one for these Twitch emotes or something, little character avatars. The only character present who isn't in the game, is Dan. They better not announce Dan over any other of the rumoured characters, I'm hoping we get a Honda reveal.
