This is garbage no matter who does it because you don't own the games and you're at the mercy of the platform holder.

More and more consumers give up their rights gleefully for being wow'ed by presentations.

I'm concerned about this as well. As stated previously, I use streaming today via Parsec, but on that platform I'm in control of the remote server (actually, rent the remote server on Paperspace, and can swap vendors at will) and also own the content I install. Here, things will be revoked instantaneously if Google so decides.

It doesn't take a genius to see where this would lead. Major developers/publishers pushing streaming as the "future", killing off physical media, preventing gamers from actually *owning* their games. Imagine Sony or Microsoft releasing a streaming console as their sole platform, ending any physical media from being purchasable. I don't that future. That is the future that will kill gaming for me.
I don’t that future either. The entire concept of this thing pisses me off. Don’t they know that a lot of people have Comcast internet? I can’t even watch Netflix or YouTube from 7pm to 10pm.

Yep....you could have a billion teraflops but when a lot of country is still without decent highspeed internet. it wont matter.

Lots of talk but no real evidence that it will work as well as advertised so far. Is I can actually play DOOM Eternal at 4K, 60fps with low latency via this steaming tech then I'll be absolutely amazed.

So.... what is the deal, what is the package, how do you play games... packaged deals, you have to buy?

At this point, its no real difference than geforce or shadow tech.

I take everything I said about Google back. This is completely game changing. Full cross platform play, instant access, 4k 60fps, use your own controller? Developers can use multiple GPUs for development? 10.7 Teraflops per instance?

I just need to know what is the price

Not only are you at the will of Google who can decide which games are "acceptable" or "problematic", but then you have the possibility internet providers that can reject certain games that are not in line with their "core values" or pay Google to remove content they dislike, or ban people from the platform.

Having used many streaming providers over the years (OnLive, LiquidSky, Parsec), I can attest to the fact that latency is primarily just driven by the distance to the nearest datacenter. Google has a clear advantage there over the prior streaming companies which typically only had a handful of centers for the entire US.

Cross Platform and cross save could be the killer feature. I would use this if I was away or at the GFS and didnt have to take my console with me and had all my saves.

Titanic was called the Ship of Dreams, and it was. It really was.
If it works as well as they're saying, this will change everything.

Integration with Google services are gonna propel this to incredible hights. Even if Sony and MS have similar services, it's gonna be very tough for them.

The only thing thats concerning so far is lack of any of this running with modern games. This relies on devs to use all of these tools but the question is will they?

Might be interesting for travel but 90% of the hotels I've stayed at have really shitty internet in both bandwidth and latency.

At the end of the day I think a game streaming service will only work if it's on a Netflix "all you can eat" plan that lets you play any game on the service for a fixed cost per month (and it needs basically all mutliplatform games available). If you have to pay $60/game it's DOA.

I think the technology is impressive but my pressing concern is that it gives google complete control over video games.

It's very rare but imagine if Google ever shut down? All future games would be lost forever.

Now if MS, Sony, Nintendo, Valve had a share of this technology, I think it could go somewhere.

Sony, Nintendo and MS gonna be more like "pfffft" ... our games remain ours. Enjoy playing all 3rd plats thru streaming instead of building a custom pc. AND those into building&upgrading their pcs gonna be "pffft" no thanks.

That's why I specified consoles. Nintendo would probably be unaffected, anyway.

Google is going for blood...but I am seeing a whole lot of Snakeoil and word salad here...

Need to see some real world demos.

my question is at what user count do thier datacenters reach a limit at providing 1080p60fps for standard internet speeds? If this catches on and becomes popular, will the image fidelity need to get reduced for everyone to accomodate more users? Is my experience at the mercy of how many people decide to get on?

I mean if this could really work I would be the first to buy games on there. But I am skeptical how a Doom for example will be able to run in 4k and 60 FPS . What kind of connection do you need for this?

But man if this will work google has a HUGE HIT here

huh. Got to admit, this is pretty amazing!

The ability to switch from devices is kind of neat (and moving the client into chrome) but everything else is pretty much very mature technology.

You generally can do this from your house today, on your own hardware, generally speaking.

This will force Sony and Microsoft to change as well with their next gen.
The "No Cheating, No hacking" part has me worried though

My main concern is FPS games. If somebody wants to play a competitive game but has "meh" internet how will that play out? If it doesn't require crazy internet, I'm interested.

Maybe your internet is down for a couple of hours... then you can't play... i like what they are saying but with physical copies of games or downloaded you can acess your games at any time.

Also, a huge missed opportunity for not actually showing a game made for Stadia's renderfarms.

Hell, I would have been excited to just see ONE game that was made with 10 CPUs in mind. That would have blown away anything out there. Yet all the games shown were current gen level. Lame.
