Konami reveals 50th Anniversary Collections: Castlevania, Contra & Arcade

They've clearly stated they're the first of each, save for the Contra one.

Expecting other games like Rush 'n' Attack, Jackal, and M. I. A. in the next Arcade.

I own the Disney and Beat em up collection digitally, plus my games on Wii U and 3DS. I'm not exactly upset its digital only. Playing Castlevania IV on my Vita would be nice (remote play I guess :messenger_sad_relieved:). Then again I could get it for my Switch. These are official releases and the latter are ROMs from some random person who dumped it online.

that's a decent lineup for the Castlevania collection. hoping the other 4 games are Simon's Quest, Rondo of Blood, SOTN, Bloodlines

Hoping for contra 4, Japanese contra hard Corp, Japanese contra 1. Famicom. Please do not put contra force on the collection.

I definitely will pick up the Castlevania collection. Hopefully these do well enough to inspire Konami to dip their toes back into these series / gaming. Although, I'm sure they're pretty bereft of development talent at this point.

Callin' it right now. All the mystery games will be the ones that are literally the easiest for Konami to include. Throw away all your hopes for DS Castlevanias, Wiiwares, or anything vaguely resembling 3D. This is going to be a barebones emulator that will make the Street Fighter Anniversary collection look like Rare Replay.

And Blades of Steel arcade.

If you haven't played it then you shouldn't be dissing it like it's a terrible game.
Why not? Because the footage I look at and the reviews I remember reading state it is bad.

So, you think it is a good game? If so, that's cool. I wouldn't want to play it from what I have read and watched, though.

"The first Konami Castlevania collection is designed to be a completed collection around the origins of the historic franchise".

This implies to me that there are going to be two Castlevania collections, the first one focusing on Classicvania and the second on Metroidvania.

If that's the case then I would guess the remaining games in the first collection will be Rondo of Blood, Bloodlines, Castlevania Rebirth and Dracula X.

I would then expect the second collection to include Symphony of the Night as well as the GBA trilogy and the DS trilogy. Assuming they're both 8 game collections that leaves one vacant slot, which I would expect to be filled by Simon's Quest. That would make sense because Simon's Quest is more of an early proto-Metroidvania than a straight up Classicvania despite the era in which it was released.

The gba games had wii u releases and the DS games are still easy to come by so they arent that important at the moment.

Bloodlines only has the original Genesis release and is stupidly expensive to buy now. It should be the crown jewel of this whole endeavor.

The 2nd and 3rd GB are in a similar spot but I dont think they can get away with two GB titles especially when the last one isnt very good.

Chronicles isnt all that necessary either since it has a PSOne classics release.

Excluding the Kid Dracula spinoffs they have 16 classicvania titles to choose from so they could get everything done in two collections if they really wanted.

Why the hell are they putting the GameBoy Castlevania 2 in the collection instead of the NES version? Also, limiting each collection to only 8 games is dumb. There's plenty more games they could have put in the arcade collection.

Because they would have to fix the bad translation...

I'm glad Konami will be making it easier to play these older games. As with all these types of releases, I'll wait to see how the products run, before deciding whether they're something worth purchasing.

No, to me implies that the first collection is all about 2d and the second collection the 3d games, or..... (worst to me) the Lords of Shadow saga.

i like the Classicvania/Metroidvania theme. feel like it is something they would do. for his kickstarter Iga ran with "sword or whip" which was kind of a nod to that distinction. think they will do that here.

that said there are a number of games you could argue would fit in either collection. Simon's Quest may as well be a Metroidvania, given that you can backtrack and you traverse a nonlinear open world. this game is what i'm hoping for the most from this set. IMO a vastly underrated early open world action RPG.

That's plausible as well, you're right.

My mind didn't immediately jump to the 3D games just because they're generally a lot less celebrated than the 2D ones so I still feel that a classic/metroidvania split is perhaps more likely, but we'll see. The remaining 4 games in the first collection should give us a much better idea of what to expect for the second.

For Castlevania, the remaining four need to be from this pool: Chronicles, Rondo, Bloodlines, Dracula X, SOTN.

Contra is easier. That remaining four should be Contra 4, Shattered Soldier, Neo, and HARD CORPS.

Agree with you, Contra is easy, but Castlevania, i mean, why another collection with Rondo and Simphony? Dracula X, a re-do of Rondo will make an appereance? Chronicles or just the original?

Because after those 5 we have the 3d era and the DSvanias, and if this is the first volume, it makes sense to bookend it with X or SOTN. Chronicles includes the original.

Dont get me wrong, it makes sense, I will buy the collection even if those 2 (rondo and Simphony) arent in it , but, as a user of Castlevania Requiem, a new collection with those 2 i fell i dont know.......bad, maybe the collection for the "Requiem Users" should be cheaper.

This is not an attack, I cant believe you spelled Symphony wrong but got requiem right.

This was releasing early summer? I think that should be in May, then. Hopefully we'll see the rest of the games soon, I wan't to know how close my personal predictions were. Out of all the games there, I hope for Adventure Rebirth.

I own and play Requiem as well, so I understand. Would you feel better if it was the PSX version of SOTN and not the PSP version?

On a side note, I’m glad that the Contra arcade games are included within its collection.

I dont know very well the differences between both versions, i think there is a third, the Saturn version with some changes, some people said that this is the worst version.

Yeah, the Saturn version is the worst. The PSP version, which is the Requiem version, has all new voice acting, narrated intro, level title cards, missing graphic when Alucard first meets Shaft, added familiars, Maria’s sprite gets worked on.

Edit: Saturn vs PSP

Ps1 vs PSP

Edit 2: also, on the psp/requiem version, you can’t map anything to L2 or R2, unlike the PSX version.

Bloodlines, Belmont's Revenge, and Kid Dracula make this a no brainer. Now all I need is for Legends to make it on of the other collections and I'll have every CV game that matters.

Little disappointed that The Adventure Rebirth is not on the list, but Belmont's Revenge, Bloodlines and Kid Dracula make up for it, so I'm OK with this. It also seems to be the NES version of Kid Dracula, which has never been officially released outside of Japan.

They didnt include Rondo and Symphony. As a Castlevania Requiem User, its a relief i think. I miss Portrait of Ruin, or Aria of Sorrow. Even Dracula X. Good Collection tho....im getting it

Lovely set of games. I've always preferred the linear Castlevanias too, so I'll probably nab this. But that said, I do hope we get a second one down the line full of the Igavanias.

No Rondo of Blood is kind of surprising though.
