I mean hell, in S. Korea it's still not normal for young women to smoke publicly, it's stigmatized.
The right way to fix this is to stigmatise it for young men as well!

or "Because of my religious faith (Catholic) I am saving myself for marriage"
or "I find Mike Pence to be very likable. As a fellow Christian, I think he is a good ambassador for Christianity. We need more diversity in politics like that."
These would probably be no problem at all (though I of course hope you would get blasted by common posters for the last one).
Like "Guys can you please tone it down with the excessive profanity?"
This depends on the context. If it can be considered tone policing, because you do this, e.g. to complain about people complaining about someone saying or doing something racist / transphobic / homophobic, you would get punished. If you did it in regular threads, where just some people use expletives, then you should be fine.
or "I believe marriage should be between a man and a woman but I respect other viewpoints"
This would get you banned.

Very curious why ERA is NOT outraged at China for being anti LGBT

No one in their thread is saying "FUCK CHINA!" or anything like that. They are awfully lenient on China's gov. for being anti LGBT

https://www.resetera.com/threads/wh...eist-government-of-china-so-anti-lgbt.108063/

Is it because Chinese people are not white men?
Same with Brunei which established a law that gay people are now stoned to death. The whole thread there was like 40 posts hats it. 41 Posts fo an absolute horrific law that stones LGBT people to death while Muslims need to watch it. But hey are not white so these racist people do no really care.

I’m officially done with Resetera too. I join forums just to talk about video games and tech but I’ve been noticing over the past several months that political views have been creeping into almost every topic including on the gaming side. Yesterday I got banned in a discussion about chick-fil-a of all things lol. I had already been thinking about leaving the site but that pushed me over the edge.

yeah i understand your frustration. that place is beyond pathetic. you shouldn't be made to feel you're walking on eggshells constantly and bans getting handed out over things that wouldn't even warrant a raised eyebrow on most other sane forums.

it may appear to 'have the numbers' but in reality it's a phony and pointless echo chamber.

I took a 2 week ban because I basically said Nipsey Hustles lifestyle played a big part in him being killed and what people can learn about living that way and gave my condolences. They said I was "Victim Blaming" LOL!!! Anything that rubs any mod the wrong way will get you banned there with little to no explanation. It really is a bunch of power happy mods just overstepping boundaries there.

I've said it before...
They're not moderators.
They're just the people with admin powers.

I paid good money for this Dynex!
Honestly, I was shocked when I checked GAF at random and realized "holy shit, people can like... have fun again." How long has it been? I mean, this place was a shitshow for the last few years thanks to the overzealous moderation, but even that was nothing compared to how rigid Resetera is. And it's not even like the pendulum has swung completely the other way here, and people are just assholes now -- there's just an unspoken acknowledgement that it's okay to not get upset about every minor slight.

Which is kind of nice.

I came back here earlier this year. Only started posting here again about 2 weeks ago. I stuck it out at Era for months, but I found I was hardly ever posting there, mostly because I disagreed with all of those assholes, which would mean I'd just get banned. So I came back here and to my pleasant surprised, this place is actually a lot of fun again, because all the assholes have moved to Era.

The cleanse did us good, my friend.

Welcome back

As people have said..the people that made this place a shithole created their own place and now this place is much more chill and open.

I'm done with Era. I got banned yesterday for complaining that a thread on the gaming side immediately devolved into capitalism bashing. Apparently, you have to be anti-capitalist to post on a video game forum?

Did you point out that the more money they make, the more good games will be produced? I mean, I feel silly having to even ask this, yet here we are in current_year...

MoronLand is not a video game forum.

You mean that video game forum that accepts money from its users in order to turn a profit? Rules for thee, not for me.

This would get you banned.

Just wondering, but what about this one:

"We can't label everyone who is disturbed by immigration as racist. You know, that's a self-defeating tactic. You push away potential allies, people who maybe just haven't thought about it."

Borderline I guess? Could lead to a ban or not, depending on the context. Then again, I have proven to be a bit too optimistic (from the perspective of the poster) in terms of what leads to a ban, so don't complain to me if you do get banned.

On the plus side you do seem to realise in the post why complaints about immigration are easily linked to racism and make clear that it is something that needs fixing. On the other hand, if you post this as a response to someone directly or indirectly impacted by racism or xenophobia, it could still be seen as tactless.

It's a recent quote from Barack Obama, while he was speaking in Europe about ideological purity tests doing harm to the left, which he compared to a "circular firing squad."

Here's a VOX article on the subject:

I happened to see this article and your post around the same time, and I found myself wondering what you'd think. Not that anything we assume is what would actually happen, but thanks for sharing your thoughts on the matter.

I feel that Vox quoted it in a way that was less ambiguous in terms of ban handling though, as the quote continues: "but if they’re exposed to new information and they’re meeting people from other countries and they understand the nature of these different traditions and they see that others are eager to work with you, then suddenly they go, ‘Ah, okay.’ " So the positive points I talked about would have been a bit more clearly presented in the text. Depending on context I could still see this quote being moderated, but Obama also is right leaning in comparison to Resetera's moderation (and a moderate in comparison to US politicians at large), so that is not entirely surprising.

True. The positive points just continue on with the main point I already quoted, though, which is why I didn't quote more than that part. "You push away potential allies, people who maybe just haven't thought about it" already suggests all of it. I honestly think conservatives make the same mistake with LGBT people, and more importantly (in terms of voters) a lot of people who might not fall into those groups, but also don't want to see them treated poorly. Conservatives are alienating potential voters. They should be trying to unite everyone who agrees with them, and democrats should be doing the same. They should be looking to accept people, not cast them away for not conforming to every single opinion, or thought process.

Hahaha gottem

It wasn't designed to be a "gottem." At the same time, I didn't want to mention where the quote came from, because I wanted that statement to be judged on its own. And I agree with Yoshi, that even with the rest of the quote going into a bit more detail, that sort of opinion could still lead to a ban.

Immigration is a topic that is hard to get a proper conversation around due to polarisation - you have on one hand the far-left who view all immigrants as perfect angels waiting to deliver us from evil, and the far-right who consider them to be the spawn of satan, when the truth is somewhere in-between and usually reflects the circumstances of their exodus in some fashion. Immigration comes with some problems, always, and I say this because when I was an immigrant I saw problems caused by my own people, and that made it easier to understand that it happens with most groups - I saw the parallels. It made it easier to articulate the positives and negatives. Unfortunately most people have only lived in one country so they don't have the good fortune to share that perspective.

But why bother? If you're doing that, they're living in your head, rent-free, as they are for a number of people here. They're shit, ignore them, move on.

They have an auto ip check and if your on the discord’s they have some other tactics to fish out the foxes in the henhouse so just be aware that there are some people much more paranoid about taking their safe space from them.

I don’t want to spoil the surprise but my troll account i should win an Oscar for as I take method acting to the next level

It’s more fun to point and laugh than move on. Seriously, the only thing more popcorn-munchingly entertaining than Resetera is Trump’s twitter feed.

Out of anyone, it seems you are the one most focused on ResetEra and you constantly complain about it being brought up. Just move on, mate. You act like it is a common theme around all the threads here, when in reality it is only very occasionally brought up outside of the two major threads dedicated to them.

I would suggest you take your own advice.

Not sure why you felt the need to be quite so rude about it, and I'd say I'm far less focused on resetera than the guy screenshotting every other thread and adding a running commentary. Still, whatever makes you moist I guess.

Not really being rude about it, just an observation I have seen from you as of late. Honestly, seems more like you are the one being rude here, especially with that needless "moist" comment.
