Forza Horizon 4 [OT] 4 Bangers and sMash

I was thinking that they'll likely use the next Horizon to showcase a real-time seasonal change engine as the next step n the franchise, so it'll have to be somewhere with snow. I'd actually really like to see it based in British Columbia. They have a coastline, rocky mountains, forests, rivers, steep mountain roads, logging trails, and a lot of unique vistas.

Not my personal opinion here, but a lot of people feel a degree of cringe when they imagine an unsuccessful attempt to mimic Initial D, or a successful attempt to mimic Tokyo Drift.

All I know is if they do Japan and this magnificent landmark isn't in the game I'll be absolutely devastated.
I can understand that for sure.

But imagining them taking what they did with GB and applying it to Japan sounds amazing. Like going from a touge to wangan to coastal towns to cities like Osaka or Tokyo to roads around Mt Fuji sounds great. Throw in Daikoku PA or hell even throw in a track like Suzuka or Tsukuba.

I also think the way they do stories now works great. There’s good inspiration from stuff like Initial D or Wangan Midnight for cool stories like that blogger or the drift stories.

And fuck it I wanna drift through Shibuya crossing goddamnit.

You really don't have to do too much imagining as they've already done Tokyo. In PGR4 it was spot-on much like every other city they mapped for the game, and Playground is made up of those same people so you know they'd do it justice.

Having real issues since the last update.

* loading times, sometimes refusing to load at all between events, just splash screens (quit game and reload)
* rewinds - same thing, Black screen but can hear all the sounds still (quit game and reload)

Even the menus often give me a black screen or just game lock ups where I have to hold guide button down and quit to dashboard and reload.

Am I the only person?

I forgot to check this thread last night before I went to bed, hopefully you have it figured out but in case you haven't, (and I know how long a ticket with Xbox support takes to even get looked at) I have a couple suggestions.

Are you playing on PC or Xbox? Is the game showing any error code or is it just a solid black screen with the audio still running?

I was having an issue after the last Win10 update (the last Win10 update has created so many issues it's driving me bananas) where the game would freeze but everything audio-wise kept playing. It ended up being related to my screen saver which kicks in after 5 minutes with no mouse input. If you are on PC try re-installing the graphic driver you're using be it Nvidia GRD or whatever AMD uses. If you have an overlay program like Nvidia's Geforce Experience or something like MSI Afterburner, Asus GPU Tweak, etc, try completely disabling those as I've noticed similar issues reported being du to interference from on overlay program.

If you're on a console, how full is your HDD or SSD? It might just boil down to reinstalling the game.

Thanks for the reply.

Am on Xbox One X.

Solid black sceen, audio running, no error code.

Hard drive has about 4tb of space on it free.

From what I'm seeing, there are several people that had this issue that solved it by uninstalling the game, then reinstalling it to the internal HDD. It might be something to do with drive sizes, as the game is updated and grows larger the game is being spread all over the drive and as time goes on the drawing the game up might be causing issues when loading between events, basically because of the time needed to gather up all the bits, the game doesn't know where to go from there (it's not the best explanation, sorry).

It's a pain in the ass, will take up some time, it's not a guaranteed fix, and I'm assuming based on size your hard drive is an external HDD and not an SSD when making this recommendation. I would try uninstalling the game fully from the large drive it's currently on (your saves should be a separate file and backed up in the cloud), then make space in the internal drive for the game and do a clean install on the internal drive. I'm not sure if the X has a defrag option you can use but if it does I would recommend running it before the re-install. I think the Xbone might do that automatically in standby mode, but I'm not sure.

I run almost everything off SSDs, and have given some games their own drive on my PC because I was having loading issues off my massive external drive I've monikered "The Porn Dumpster" Right now I have a dedicated Forza drive because Forza 7 would hang sometimes for several minutes on the Porn Dumpster. Moving it to a smaller drive erased every issue I was having with the game so it might have a positive effect on your issue.

Thanks for the tips.

This morning I'm getting 'for some reason the game took too long to start' messages.

I love the way they have no idea WTF is going on - good old Windows 10 there in its bastardised Xbox form.

There's a lot of things I dislike about modern gaming design, but locking stuff like cars behind grinding is just about the worst. Especially when it's you just following a checklist.

Why can't you just have all the cars in the game be available to purchase? Why force people to jump through hoops?

Because fuck you we want more money.

As much as I enjoy the game, I agree 100% with this. I missed the Hudson Hornet because I was in my hometown for the holidays. The Hornet is among my favorite cars so that was a bit annoying.

I would be fine with it if they placed Forza Edition versions of the cars in the rewards for seasonal events.

I don't even mind having to work for reward cars either, but the issue is that the reward is there "this season only" then disappears for fuck knows how long, maybe forever. I actually like the seasonal championships, win three races on expert (play the game) and get the rewards. I think the championships should accumulate, not be replaced each season. In each season I would like to be able to play what I missed other winter seasons. People have shit to do (even me!) and can't check in on a game every few days indefinitely.

Let me buy this game on Steam, JFC. How hard can it possibly be to release it on Steam before all licenses will expire and which'll force you to pull the game from sale?

No matter how much crap they add to this, Forza Horizon 3 still remains a better game.

Probably the only major improvement that 4 has over 3 is ghosting traffic in PR stunts. Trying to complete a drift zone but failing because a random traffic car got in the way was infuriating.

New Super 7 seems interesting, but difficulty is all over the place. First one I had was a jump that I tried halfa dozen times and couldn't get close, so burned that and got a skill score challenge that wanted me to get 100 points in 90 seconds.

I have played the hell out of this game but I think I'm finally tired of it and the content updates have slowed a lot.

finally went back to this to clean it up before FM in october and surprised at all the extra content, finishing all the stories now.

also, hate to be that guy, but going back to this after FH5 did not feel like a downgrade at all. not sure if that's a testament to how good this game is or how low effort FH5 is.

I liked the blogger, documentary, and stunt driver stories in FH4, but many of the businesses felt like they did not live up to their potential and were mostly doing similar challenges. My favorite parts of the base game are the off-road Mortimer Gardens and Mountain races. I am still playing through the Fortune Island DLC and having a blast with all its events. The barn finds sucked in FH4 and the constant unlocking of cars makes selling them a pain in the ass. They do have an amazing selection of vehicles but I never liked the multiple editions of a vehicle and mostly used the ones which best fit the event with minimal tuning. I still do the seasonal events and am aiming to eventually unlock them all even if I can't be assed to drive them. However, revisiting Forza Horizon 3 is a more fulfilling experience and its vehicle acquisition and tuning definitely felt like a bigger investment.

I have played a little bit of Forza Horizon 5 on Game Pass, but between the intro events, avatar customization, first bonus boards being roof-bound, early events, and progression system display I was definitely put off. I originally bought 4 as part of a bundle because it was the only way I could snatch a copy of 3's DLC, but it definitely managed to entertain instead of feeling like work in what I played of FH5. I am also looking forward to trying out Forza Motorsport in October.
