Fallout 3 is so freaking good.

I just had to say this. A month ago, I was playing Fallout 4 and building bases and shit... I had a moment of clarity and thought "man, I remember Fallout 1,2,3, and New Vegas being better than this. In fact, this game doesn't even feel like Fallout at all."

So I started replaying Fallout 3 and wow it's good.. It's just so much better than Fallout 4... it's odd. I just don't understand what focus groups lead to this? I just don't get it. We all love Fallout, right? 4 is just not good.

It's like the first book in a series, hook them with that first book and you're set for the rest. Fallout 3 was Bethesda's first shot at Fallout, they've got alot of fans that will keep giving them chances, chances they don't deserve anymore imo.

The trouble with 3 was that the story was so lame, just combining the Super Mutants from 1 and the Enclave from 2 without creating anything new.

That and the fact that everything was green and brown.

Falllout 4 improves in some respects by upping the color palette and inventing new antagonists, but then they screwed it up with all the base building crap which is just tedious and bogs everything down.

At the end of the day both 3 and 4 have their pros and cons, I think New Vegas trumps both and is the "real" Fallout 3 anyway.

Absolutely love this game especially on PC because the modding community keep adding new missions and so much more

I'm still a New Vegas guy (even if the balance side of things got kinda stupid in the DLC).

FO3, while fun at the time, is like a proof of concept for something greater. I think NV was just the natural progression of things, while FO4 was the series falling off its bike into a pig pen.

I platinumed it, but never loved it as much as others. I got way more into New Vegas, but never felt compelled for more Fallout after playing those two games.

Wtf, I loved Fallout 4 and the base building :/
I mean, not the default base building with the limitations, but once you mod it and remove the budget limit, it's amazing, I really liked creating my little towns / bases.
And even if you don't like it, you are not really forced to use it, you can do the bare minimum for the few story scenes that require it, but you can ignore it most of the time.
And I loved the atmosphere in fallout 4, finally one that didn't look all green / brown, and the gameplay was way better too, the only downside in my opinion is how the main story forces a background on your character, removing some of the roleplay potential.

I really hope they remaster part 3 for PS4 (pro), so that I can give it another go :) After my Fallout4 platinum I gotta admit.. I just love the series so much :)

I really liked FA3 back in the day, and it was the first one i played. I now decided to not buy another Fallout or Elder scrolls until they AT LEAST change the engine and severely improve the RPG parts of the games, AND fix the BUGS, FA4 quest system was so buggy for me that if not managed multiple saves i would have to restart the game in several occasions I mean WTF NPC getting jammed all over the place, and those fucking base camp tedious missions, fuckt it. It's a shame cause those world are so cool but such a waste

All of the fallout games are ok (except 76), the bethesda ones are particularly great when modded. Fallout 4 is my favorite but I modded that game with tons of modern guns and changed the gameplay to be like a cross between Far Cry and Ghost Recon so I can't really speak for the base game much.

I have the opinion that non-modded Bethesda games are kinda bland and I hate the VATS system (I always mod it out). Modding is what makes them great. Which sucks for console peeps and their limited mods.

There is a guy making a fallout 4 total conversion right now that does everything I used to do with hundreds of mods, but in a single mod that is balanced correctly. Also, he is having professional animations made for all of the modern guns he is adding that look really good!

Fallout 3 has outdated mechanics, it's clunky and the dialogs are usually bad but, oh boy, the world is an absolute joy to explore.
Bethesda is really excellent in crafting game worlds worthy of losing yourself

Yeah it's true. Despite all the chunkiness, broken game-mechanics and ugly characters I absolutely LOVE exploring their worlds. Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas & 4, Skyrim: I played them all so much and was totally immersed in everything it had to offer.

Fallout 4 was the perfect segway to Fallout 76, as in trash.

Get ready for interplay fanboys telling you you're a fucking idiot because the only real fallout games are 1,2, and New Vegas.

I categorize as such but am smart enough to acknowledge the accomplishments Fallout 3 did and also see it's shortcoming compared to the first two games. I also can admit Tactics is trash and should be burned to the ground.

So there, Fallout 3 was fun. SHOCKING people can have grey opinions on stuff huh?

I had a lot of fun with it. Some of the scenarios you stumble into were very memorable. You can retrieve a violin for Agatha and then listen to her music on your radio! I enjoyed that.

That and the fact that everything was green and brown.

You're not wrong, but then -- it was a radioactive wasteland.

One of the most boring, ugly games I ever played lol.

I did kind of enjoy new Vegas though, good writing and music. DAMN it was buggy though.

The problem with New Vegas is its map was as lame as Fallout 3's story was. I had no desire to explore New Vegas. The map felt like going from Deus Ex to Deus Ex Invisble War or Thief 1 and 2 to Thief Dark Shadows or whatever it was called. Huge disappointment.

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout game, so that may be why I still remember it as being the best. Maybe I should play it again some day and see if it holds up. New Vegas did a lot of things better, but I still remember 3 more fondly.

I don't hate 4 as much as most people, though. It's not much of a Fallout game in the sense that the story falls really flat and there is like no choice or branching narrative whatsoever. But, the world is way better and so is the shooting. So it's a nice hybrid FPS/Action/Lite RPG kinda game. It's also way more rewarding on Survival.

I enjoyed New Vegas less than FO3... after FO3 i got tired of the games of Bugthesda... played those games on console and i wished that i had a good gaming pc to mod those games.

I played Vegas on 360 and its definitely the buggiest game I've played. I mean there are some shovelware games worse, but yeah.

They need to burn their engine to the ground, for starters.

FO3 has a special place in my heart because of the Shishkebab and Railway Rifle. Never before had I seen such silly weaponry.

Though I think I found NV to be more interesting in the big picture.

4 was a mistake.

Another reason to get myself hated: I like Fallout 3 more than New Vegas. I agree that New Vegas has the better story and story structure but in terms of atmosphere and in terms of environmental story telling, Fallout 3 gets my vote.

Fallout 3 is my favorite game of all-time along with several of the Halos. The atmosphere was so deep and immersive. FO3 has my soul 😁

I liked it WAY better than New Vegas and also liked the story in 3 much more. I even liked FO4 a lot, but it definitely didn't measure up to 3.

It's true, 1, 2 and NV are the "real" Fallout, it's best to think of Bethesda's games as separate continuity.

But I'm not an Interplay fanboy, Interplay did a good enough job fucking up Fallout by themselves long before Bethesda came along, like the horrendous Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel which is way worse than even 76.

That is the only weak link in NV is the map design is not quite as good as 3's.

However it's not bad, one interesting thing about NV's map is there are hidden locations way out in what you think are probably beyond the game's boundaries, that was cool.

You seem to have taken that rather personal. Truth is I came into this thread expecting atleast one person would pull a GameFAQs and tell OP just how wrong he is.

I keep trying to get into Fallout 4... but I only can ever manage a half hour at a time before I'm right where you've landed at - all of the other ones are soooo much better. Hopefully one day I'll be able to sit down and play it the whole way through, I'd love to be proven wrong. With all of the comments and feedback that I've seen though...I don't see it being likely.
