Its funny watching the teaser, its like Abrams having put everything back in that Johnson fucked up with TLJ.
Abrams should of directed Episode 8 as well then we wouldnt be in this shit.

Who would've thought 5 years ago that by the time we reached episode 9 they'd be basically retconning everything in order to advance the storyline. What in the actual FUCK were they thinking?!

It will probably be better than TLJ (which shouldn’t be that hard), but at this point I’m just waiting for it to end so we can all move on to something better.

Palpatine could be the first dark force ghost. And he has the ability to possess people. Who knows lol.

Saying "no one's really gone" definitely implies that everyone lives on. You don't have to be a saint to live on.

This "no one's really gone" line was the most interesting thing this trailer had, and the laughter only made it better.

We have this series of movies where we have seen a few scenes with characters being shown as spirits. I've always been interested in what that spirit realm has in the world of Star Wars.
I've always thought that if Anakin and co were shown as spirits in the end of Return of the Jedi, then Palpatine is probably in that same form somewhere else. This is literally quite much the only thing that actually finally REALLY interests me in Star Wars. Before I saw any of the Star Wars movies I saw Masters of the Universe and because I saw the post credits end where Skeletor was shown to be alive I always thought Palpatine either still was physically alive or at least alive as a spirit.

They didn't have any characters from my childhood left to kill off so they brought back Lando. I can't get hyped for SW anymore.

Rian really did leave the trilogy in shambles. Where's the arc? Nobody has an arc. There is no credible villain. Almost everyone important is dead. The entire resistance can fit on the Falcon with room to spare.

Rian gives no fucks, but I mostly blame Kennedy. She sucks.

Yep, the ultimate selfish dick head. He didnt give one damn about what came before or what would come after, he just wanted to make his film. I blame KK for letting him do it.

We would be in slightly different shit, but shit nonetheless. The JJ mystery box was going nowhere fast. He already wrecked star trek. Why does everyone still believe star wars would have been in a much better place after a second JJ movie, than star trek was after a second JJ movie? I simply don't understand the incredible faith the fandom has in JJ.

Not gonna happen under Disney watch ;)

Maybe not but I think it'd be cool if Rey was a creation using the Force by Palpatine (similar to how it was hinted that Anakin was) and then episode X is set 60 years in the future and focuses on the grandchildren of Rey and Bens inbred/bastard Palpatine/Skywalker offspring.

Who gives a shit if it’s good or bad.

It’s likely going to have Palps, back in the big screen hamming it up.

What else do you fuckers want?

It’s a Star Wars movie. As somebody raised on the originals, went to see their re-releases at the cinema, saw the prequels and every one at the cinema... it looks fine.

There’s only so much you can do to recover from TLJ. As was said earlier, he really took all the cool directions it could have gone and buggered them all up. You got a bland, by the numbers film. JJ is back because the last one was pretty much universally hated, and because the good stuff from the first was junked.

Give it chance. It may be the best Star Wars film ever. It may be a heap of junk. But as long as it’s entertaining, let’s roll.

That trailer was one last "whoops, gotchya" just like the entire waste of time TLJ was. The fuck did they spend two fucking movies only to wait for the third to say oh guess who's still alive? Lando and Palpatine! What a shit show. This is as bad as what the writers strike did to LOST. Ironically another shit show created by JJ Abrams.

The handling of this trilogy was awful.

I'm hoping this somehow saves it... but I will be waiting until digital release to see for that myself.

"I hope the toxicity RLM brought with their prequels hate is more obvious now with their sequels hate.

What I'm seeing is that a lot fans that hated TLJ are hopeful for IX after the celebration and that's a good thing.

The alt right idiots and RLM are basically the only ones hating on it just like TFA.

Which is a nice upgrade over what happened last time. "-Slaythe

Jesus christ if ANYONE needs to be told "It's just a movie"..it's THEM. SW to them is not entertainment it's politics. Do they even ENJOY them as recreational films?!? Or are movies like TLJ and Black Panther merely a means for them to pretend they are some political activists?

The entire SW franchise has been about politics though, and the prequels like fucking quadrupled down on it.

I was talking about the fan discussion not the movies themselves. That group of people talk about how anyone who says Holdo and Rose are bad characters are probably alt right trolls and sexist and racist.

But since you talked about the movies themselves I'll chime in:

-SW has always had politics woven into the plot (Vietnam War) in a way that people who are not very political wouldn't really notice.

With the prequels, George made it a little bit less subtle, but still woven into the plot. I didn't know the Bush Administration had anything to do with it until it was pointed out to me and then I thought - oooh ok, makes sense.

In TLJ the politics are almost separate from the main story. Canto Bight and Rose's monologues can just be edited out and you lose nothing. It's so obvious like Rose is reading off twitter. Then Holdo is so distracting because she is dressed like a modern 2017 stereotype of an extremely radical left leaning woman from planet Earth and openly makes subtly sexist remarks towards Poe while she seems to take joy in insulting him. Then they have Poe shown to be "surprised" that a woman is the legendary Admiral, implying Poe is sexist or something. It's all so obvious and comes off like Holdo = Kathleen Kennedy proxy inside the movie. Broom Boy = Rian Johnson proxied into the movie. Rose = Rian Johnson's high school girlfriend proxied into the movie.

In Ivan Ortega's re-edit the movie will be devoid of politics. That shows how heavy handed and disjointed the politics of it are.

To be fair, Palpatine was rumoured to be coming back before even The Force Awakens came out. They have cloning tech already, and Luke will be cloned i guess as well judging from the title of this film.

Fan theory #34286:

What if the Palpatine in ROTJ was a clone?
I mean if you think about it, why would someone as clever as Palpatine put himself in any risk of dying, even if the chances was 0.001%? He already saw how Tarkin died on the first Death Star, why would he put himself in the same situation?

I saw another fan theory that Kylo is actually being a double agent. He is trying to finish what Anakin started, he will defeat the real Palpatine in Episode 9. It actually sounds like a plausible theory to me.

I don't get it though, seeing as we know Jedi can come back as ghosts after death, why can't sith? Why couldn't Palpatine keep on ruling from beyond the grave like nothing happened? Why can only the good guys be force ghosts? Is there a force hell that evil doers get dragged off to after death? Are we meant to assume Palpatine with all his power of the force and knowledge didn't know how to return from the dead but Obi-Wan and Anakin did?

force ghosts, im kind of iffy about tbh. if force sensitives can simply come back from the dead at any time and interact with the world, then where was Yoda, Obi Wan, etc. when all this First Order shit was going down? they can appear on any planet at any time. let were all cool with letting an entire system of planets get blown up.

furthermore, if there are all these ghosts, and being dead doesn't mean anything, does it even matter if they kill the bad guys? Snoke comes back i guess. Han Solo too. what are they going to do, exorcise them? are there Ghostbusters in Star Wars?

as for clones, it's not really that intriguing of an idea, and it would be ripping off Lucas once more. ANH already set the stage for clones from the first movie. ditto with a "droid army". do people not remember The Phantom Menace? Better tap into that PT nostalgia before you go on "hiatus" (aside from your multiple Boba Fetta/Obi Wan/ANH spin off streaming series).

My excitement for each successive movie wanes with each release. I would have never made a new trilogy in continuation of the first without putting at least a gap of a few hundred years in between. I never liked Dark Empire, and the Zahn novels were so terrible that I knew that it was practically an impossibility of making a direct continuation. When Disney announced the returning former cast members, I thought that maybe they would do it right and maybe have old holograms of some of the cast to give some tidbits of history at best. No. They just had to go in with a direct continuation set some 30 years after ROTJ. No one is truly happy with these films. Not enough action for some, not enough lore and character building for others. The music is also not at all memorable, either. I know that there are a lot of people that are putting in lots of hours and effort working on these films and it surprises me that the product isn’t any better than what was released. Look at the toy line and how it has diminished in sales. That is the big one that should alarm people. These new films just aren’t moving any plastic off shelves. Now, they can release classic Jabba Sail Barges and those sell for hundreds of dollars. Where is the hot selling AT-M6? It checks all of the boxes for a hot seller.....but the only one selling is made by LEGO-which is a different set of consumers altogether than the classic toy lines. I’ll see the new one, but that trailer had no magic and was terrible.

This looks like something the Sci-Fi channel would produce. Cheesy and crappy production all around. Pass. They clearly demonstrated at 7 they had no idea what the fuck they were doing and 8 exasperated the point. If you want real Star Wars then just watch the Clone Wars series.

I'm all in for this, but it'll likely be the last one I see at the cinema. It's been such a big part of my childhood I can't not go and see the conclusion.

Despite this, I think the fact that they're marketing it as the conclusion of the saga is laughable and a cheap way to get people into cinema seats allover again after the disaster of episode 8. I guess when there's YouTube videos explaining how shit your film is that have over 5 million views, you do whatever it takes to get the fans back.

You can practically feel the course correction from 8 to 9 too, and the whole trilogy will undoubtedly suffer on rewatching.

I really don't think that star wars is a sustainable series, I think if it was it wouldn't have taken 40 years just to get ten or so movies. Games, books and comics fair enough, but I don't think there's demand at all beyond seeing beloved childhood characters on screen again.

Abrams is an awful writer though. He did such a crappy job writing the script for 7. I have no hope for this one. “I have all the original Star Wars characters back for one project, I’ll keep them separate the whole movie. How about Han and Leia split up and Luke wants to hide, yet leaves a map to where he is”. What a joke.

The prequels have many flaws mainly in dialogue, pacing, and acting, but it had nowhere near the level of holes in the story as the sequel trilogy.

There was demand the problem is they screwed up bringing the classic characters back properly and they did a terrible job of getting people to fall in love with the new cast at the same time. Disney's Lucasfilm just completely misread what the franchise was, what people want from it, and just how damaging it is to saturate the market with SW films. For all the shit Lucas gets he still managed to make the Prequel trilogy resonate with the kids who grew up with it so it is possible keep the franchise relevant for future generations if you have the right approach.

Han wasn't force sensitive so I guess he isn't coming back (also Harrison Ford is done with this shit). But the rest? Euh, I guess no one's ever really gone?

Naah I think I'll wait until its on SABC...*insert your most pathetic terrible TV channel from your country that only shows terrible 1980's movies*... and then I'll give it a skip.

Pretty much. TFA is a decent appeal to nostalgia but it's such a sloppy movie as well. TLJ gets a lot of deserved heat but this garbage fest of a sequel trilogy really began with Ep 7.

So much salt I read about people mad the name "Skywalker" is even in the title. They talk about how it should all be left in the past so we can explore a wide new universe without the ball and chain of Skywalker!

Well who gives a fuck about a wide new universe that nobody has any relation to beyond 1) established alien races and 2) force powers. The Rebels and Empire no longer even exist now in any reasonable way. Game of Thrones literally shits out 8 full seasons based around the same families doing family shit, why didn't they just wrap that up in season 4 and move onto something other than Westeros! It's like these people directly associate a new thing with a good thing, and even further than that, that if the new thing shits on the old thing, it's even better. Insane.
You have a lack of imagination and creativity if you think Star Wars can’t tell other stories other than be LukeSkywalker ball in chain because that’s exactly what it is.

I don’t think you actually understand RLM

Didn't palpatine had clones of himself in case he got killed in the old canon?

Kind of related. Last night i felt an urge to watch empire strikes back. So i did. When i saw han and leia together i couldn't stop thinking of their older versions. They failed as a couple and as parents. That's just sad.
Harrison Ford ruined my childhood twice now.

Those weren't my words. I have been an RLM fan since that first 90 min TPM review dropped. One of the reasons I left that forum and came back here was them accusing RLM of pandering to the alt right and calling Joe Rogan alt-right and a "piece of shit". I was disgusted at seeing Joe treated that way when I know he has always been left leaning his whole life even if by 2019 standards he doesn't mesh well with the far left. And I think of RLM as not being that political in general.

I always thought only the good guys could become force ghosts. That's why in RoJ, that Vader/Anaking shows up as a force ghost at the very end is 'proof' of his redemption.

Jeez, is there any aspect, character, ...thing left in these old movies that they haven't run into the ground, yet?

Star Wars is a simple story of good vs evil, how hard is it to make such a story? If I want some avant-garde movie experience I watch an art house movie, not friggin Star Wars!

I don't know what's more pathetic, the people making these movies or the pathetic 'fans' who still watch that crap.

I know it is EU and not canon blah blah but in a some books dark side users would go to Koriban and go to the tombs of dead Sith and the Sith would appear or talk to them. They weren't as powerful as light side force ghosts as I think they were confined to their tomb. Also it could be a Clone of Palpatine, or a holocron or one of those droids with palpatines face that we saw in the battlefront 2 single player game and also appeared in some Disney EU books.
