Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order — Official Reveal Trailer

This takes place a while after the Jedi were almost entirely exterminated, they are decommissioning Venator SDs and the troopers in the trailer are Imperial Storm Troopers, not Republic Clone Troopers. In the trailer you see the Jedi come across an old Clone Trooper's corpse with the Order 66 message playing. This would place the game about the same timeline as Star Wars: Rebels, about 15 years after Episode III. At the point in the timeline the game appears to take place there are almost no Jedi left and the chances he'd just stumble across one on an Imperial controlled world with such a high Imperial presence is pretty low. Given his age, chances are he was a Padawan who watched his master get slaughtered when order 66 was called, has since gone into hiding and has inserted himself into a "normal life" to survive.

I was just aiming for more impact for in the feels section. A little backstory on what has happened to jedi in the past would get the feels and create more sympathy to how the character is now living his life.

over/under on micro transactions?

Respawn and EA have both said explicitly that there won't be any. I can't help but feel that Respawn is EA's canary in the coal mine, seeing whether it might actually get more money by backing away from non-cosmetic microtransactions instead of shoving them into every title.

I just hope the main character is more interesting than he looks. Here he seems like such a bland and generic good guy. Hopefully there's more depth to him or as in older games some form of character progression where I can get closer to the dark side or something like that

:messenger_fearful:Hey, Respawn, can you not?:messenger_weary:
Definitely no buy for me if true:messenger_expressionless:

It's a Star Wars game by EA.
It's definitely going to be made to appeal to as many people as possible, so even if it takes notes from Sekiro I seriously doubt it will requiere the same precision or be anywhere near as punishing.

It's also from the director of GOW3 which in everything but the hardest difficulty was pretty much "button mash to win"

I fully trust respawn is going to make a entertaining game. I also fully trust respawn is going to use the same freaking engine and thats a shame, cause Star Wars looks so freaking good in Frostbite.

edit: oh, the trailer says thats rendered in unreal, but no gameplay footage.

so, is the game in unreal or just the trailer?

The game is in Unreal.

Powered by Unreal, nice to see EA didn't force frostbite down Respawns throat.

EA is already on the right page then. Or should I say "Respawn" is already on the right page for this game. I can't wait to see it at E3!!!!

God of War 3? Or Gears of War 3?

I don't disagree with you. I've gone through every Star Wars book, comic, cartoon, show, watched every fan fiction, and I've built a bunch of model kits so I have a detailed knowledge of what has gone down and what everything in the trailer is so I emphasize through that extra info the trailer is missing. The trailer caters more to me than to someone who has only watched the movies. Lets hope they have a better trailer ready for E3.

My hope is that the game opens with the Clone Wars coming to an end, his master getting 66'ed and him escaping followed by a time skip. The protag's past should be filled in throughout the game with scenes like the clone trooper corpse scene in the trailer, or where he opens the Venator's bay door and sees the Jedi Starfighter with the Astromech in the socket. Flashback sequences at these points would be great. To quote an overused line from the franchise in regards to the game turning out well, I have hope.

To me, this wouldn't a bad thing, not even if it had cosmetic microtransactions. Jedi Academy had a solid single player which was made even better by its online multiplayer.

That said, given Respawn's success with Apex Legends, I wouldn't be shocked if this was a Jedi: Battle Royale mode either, which does nothing for me.

If the melee combat is well done with a decent level of depth then I'd happily see a basic 1v1 or 2v2 duel mode. Similar to the basic 1v1 modes in For Honor.

Online Jedi duels could be a lot of fun if done well. Like a Star Wars fighting game, For Honor style.

I need to see it in action, want to see how the game is /world plus the combat are the more important things to me from this trailer it basically looks like battlefronts 2 single player but with a light saber and wall running.
do we have expansive biomes or is it just a linear path like force unleashed was. is the city somewhat explorable or just cutscenes. then I just need to see how easy to play/master the combat really is.

Not too sure about that. EA has been doing free dlc and no season pass etc in many games for a while now, so this move doesn't really sound out of the norm of what they are currently doing. Consider this is a single player game, I'm not sure what they'd do with cosmetics in terms of MT in that regard.

They might mean like Uncharted, The Last Of Us, Metal Gear Solid, Resident Evil etc that its a single player focused game and MP is optional. So a single player game can still have MP as an option as I don't recall calling any Single player game anything else that did have a MP option. I'd argue with Multiplayer we see the same thing. Take Battlefield or Call Of Duty, many call them multiplayer games, not simply because they have both, but because its clear the main focus is multiplayer. So i'm not sure if many understand that they way they might be wording Single player might be in the respect as in the main focus, as in MP is optional and likely not recommend as the reason someone solely buys the game etc

True, games like Battlefield V are examples of that. Although Respawn is still unique in that it can get away with things that other studios can't, like using the Unreal Engine instead of Frostbite. I can't help but hope that Respawn engineers a quiet takeover of EA by making the company rethink more of its policies.

Can't imagine Respawn bringing Fallen Order to the Switch. Bethesda has to cut corners (albeit rather smartly) for games like Wolfenstein -- Fallen Order would probably look like an early PS3 game by the time it reached the Switch. And like Jay there implied, that's not to disparage the Switch, it's just a limitation of the mobile hardware.

trailer was good, I expect gameplay will be shown at e3 and will be good too

my main gripe, which is a weird one, is the character design of the protagonist. Not only does he seem generic and uninteresting as a character, he also seems like a soy boy so to say... and he is super feminine looking/sounding. I dunno, compare his design with force unleashed for example to get where I'm coming from. I want a bad ass Jedi, not someone that could be mistaken for a butch lesbian.

This has got to be one of the shittiest reveals in awhile. Coming out in 7 months and they can't show any gameplay yet? Disappointing like everything Star Wars these days, and also does nothing to bolster confidence that EA will get it right this time.

"Although Respawn is still unique in that it can get away with things that other studios can't, like using the Unreal Engine instead of Frostbite. " ? get away with? How do you know its not EA that gave the ok? Consider EA owns this team, is funding this game, is publishing and has the SW license.

" I can't help but hope that Respawn engineers a quiet takeover of EA by making the company rethink more of its policies." Unlikely. ReSpawn is a development team, they are not going to be making policies withing EA, the company that now owns them. EA bought ReSpawn, ReSpawn didn't buy EA.

For all we know, EA themselves are open to using 3rd party engines seeing how poorly Mass Effect Andromeda did and the teams difficulties with the engine is something EA likely didn't want to repeat. Consider this game has likely been in development for years, Mass Effect came out in 2017, EA bought ReSpawn in 2017. So the choice to not push that on this team might have been made years ago from EA simply seeing what was happening at Bioware and Anthem was likely too far along to really make that change (or they didn't have the same issues as the other Bioware team enough to change it)

From what I see, nothing is wrong with Frostbite as much as teams working on it that are not as good as DICE might have issues with it. Bioware even stated themselves that the engine had issues with flight at that speed that they had so much trouble with. Does that sound like the engine or the team forcing it to do something it wasn't designed to actually do?

So with that choice to use an engine across many games, clearly not everyone is having as much trouble as Bioware, but its still something that was done by one of EA's higher ups that no longer works there . So a shift could have happened years ago with many games currently in development in secret.

" Coming out in 7 months and they can't show any gameplay yet? " Most first game trailers are not gameplay. Story trailer / gameplay trailer / etc Look at Red Dead 2 or Death Stranding, or Cyberpunk 2077 or most titles tbh. This isn't unusually, I'd argue this is the norm of reveals.

It's not normal with the release being so close.

It's not normal with the release being so close.

It is when they have an event coming up in a few weeks.....

That was Fallout 4's first trailer btw... released the same year it was announced

That is coming this year, no game play demonstration.

Released during the same year of reveal, no gameplay trailer yet.

That has nothing to do with when the game is coming out, that simply is the norm of MOST reveals of theses type of AAA games.

edit. Dead Space lol, good times. Reveal same year as release

i'd be happy with a basic multiplayer arena component, as it could take on a life of its own and get regularly updated

def not buying this without mp

Nothing about this has me excited. Show me gameplay like Jedi Knight II and I'm in, otherwise it's just another shitty button mashing jedi game.

I believe in Respawn. They have to know how well-received the spiritual successor to the Jedi Knight series would be.

I had already forgotten about this game until someone bumped the thread.

I really up the gameplay is something to look forward to, that reveal trailer was extremely disappointing. Take the video down to 720p and it looks like something straight out of 2008.
