Notre Dame On Fire

Come on guys. What is happening is horrible and a true tragedy.
What has become this site if every thread is crippled with Islamophobia? Unbelievable.
Islamists have called for Notre Dame to be destroyed and a mosque to be erected in its place for decades, so when it happens it's not that outrageous to think that they could be involved. We'll wait and see though. But I have to say that even if they were involved, the government might cover it up because it would cause a huge unrest in France if muslims were behind it, maybe not a civil war but there would be many incidents of people wanting revenge and then people on the other side wanting revenge for the revenge and so forth.

I genuinely can't belive it. That is such a central piece of European culture, and it looks like it'll be lost forever.
What an unmitigated tragedy.

That was my thoughts exactly, I would be not be surprised at all if this sparks a full on Civil War in France that may even snowball into a Civil War in all of Europe, this is history in the making right now.

I had a feeling something like this was going to happen, I feel so very bad for Europe.

I'm at a loss for words over this...this has to absolutely be a case of arson for it to spread that quickly. Truly fucked up.

Well let's just cool it for now and wait to see what the investigation turns up, I certainly don't want a civil war.

Well apparently the whole "attic" floor and structure was made of wood to help absorb vibrations. You'd think workers would be extra careful when working in that section.

my friends call me "Cunty"
It is the 4th church in 3 Month in France that was lit on fire
The fire started 5-6 minutes after they closed. NO all facts so far indicate that this was arson. Who did it? I do not know but this looks highly suspicous

Anger as France sees 10 Catholic churches attacked in ONE week - 'God will forgive, NOT ME

Catholic churches in France are being targeted with arson attacks, vandalism, desecration of holy statues, and the destruction of the Eucharist. The attacks have been happening since the start of the year.
The Church of St. Sulpice in Paris, where the Da Vinci Code movie was filmed, was set on fire just after midday mass on Sunday, Le Parisien reports. Firefighters and police said the blaze was an arson attack.

Like I said, it's too early to say for sure and the initial evidence indicates it's accidental, not intentional.

Coincidence is not the same as evidence. This is basic logic -- just because B happened after A doesn't mean that B is the product of A. If we see evidence of intent, I'll accept that, but you're just rushing to conclusions at the moment.

So this is even worse and more monumental an event than I thought, great.

There's good reason to suspect this was an Islamic terrorist attack.

If I'm wrong about that then I'm wrong, but if not then I am going to go out on a limb and say this, fuck Islam, it is a vile, despicable, evil Religion no one in their right mind would deny the world would be a far better place without and this is proof.

That's not to say every individual Muslim is a bad person, but my advice to any Muslim would be to reject this evil, worthless Religion as soon as possible, Muhammad's words are as valuable as a pig's guts and Muhammad can go fuck himself.

I hope for everyone's sake though this was just a terrible accident because if not shit's probably gonna get real ugly in Gay Paree now, this feels like the start of something really bad.
Thoughts and prayers.

I am not saying that it is a fact. I am saying if there is a current verdicts everything speaks of Arson. The time frame the fire started. The previous attacks this year etc. What initial evidence suggests that this was an accident 5 minutes after they closed Notre Dame? Renovations? there are renovations going on all the fucking time What would even cause this fire during renovations? You are not renovating Notre Dame with Heavy machinery so please tell me your initial evidence.

And it was not A and then B. It was A, B, C, D, E, F, G, H I, J in 4 fucking Months and these were also confirmed arsons

THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF ANYTHING at this point, just hearsay and conjecture. So let's wait for some actual evidence.

Not necessarily. The carpentry of the cathedral was known to be a very complex network of wooden beams (nicknamed "the forest"). Once one is lit, it's like a huge camp fire, with both fuel and air circulation.

Presumably, though they must have had some countermeasures in place in the event of this surely? Alarms at the very least?

So what would have caused this fire 6 minutes after they closed Notre Dame? It makes no sense at all that this was an accident. at this time of the day.

If nothing else comes of this I hope the people responsible for similar structures reevaluate their fire safety precautions to ensure this doesn't happen to them.

Sorry abit late for this...

Is this pure accident or caused by arsonist?

If true have they caught the suspect?

They said on the news that there were smoke alarms, because the risk of fire was identified. And that there was no electricity precisely to limit that risk. But there's probably no active counter-measures for fire, it's a medieval construction after all.

french officials say that there is an inquiry about what started the fire and the french president just cancelled his adress.

Smells fishy

Sorry but I don't think this is an accident, that fire burned quick. Someone did this on purpose.

No one knows yet but this is now the 4th church that was lit one fire this year and the others were confirmed arson. So make out of it what you want.

At this point you just want it to be arson… All we know is that the firefighters said that it looks like an accident (that's only their first impression of course). There will be an indepth investigation, but there's no need to jump to conclusions when there's no reason to.

So this seems to become a pattern now than a random accident

Hope they can find the suspect

This is heartbreaking. I really hope it can be saved and rebuilt. And I really, really hope the fire was an accident. The alternative is too upsetting to consider.

Very unlikely to be a random accident now after it followed up by another churches being burned down before this

There seems to be an increasing ISIS activity in France for the last few year

Bataclan shooting 4 years ago and a 84 years old church leader in northen france being beheaded by 2 ISIS jihadist fighter 3 years ago

The france police should be in red alert by now

Holy fucking shit, the building is like what, 400 years old? And today is the day it burns to ground, unbelievable.

No biggie, just a world famous centuries old landmark, not like they'd have a specific emergency plan in case it caught on fire or anything.

Was built from 1163-1345. So 856 years old.

Think of everything this building has been around for.

I'm atheist, but even I can see how shitty this is.

I've visited it and walked by it many times, and by the looks of it, that's over.

This is what I heard. Would hate to be that person if they end up getting named.
Yeah, imagine going home after work being all like "man, what a hard day's work." then turn around and see the whole thing on fire. Shit, I can't even begin to imagine what would be going through my head that moment.

Also, in case my take on Islam was a little too blazing for some, let me add a little more context.

You can be a Muslim if you want, you can believe anything if you want to, I believe in freedom of Religion, which also means I have the freedom to say I hope Muhammad is getting sodomized by a pig's corkscrew shaped cock while he roasts in Hell.

But in the interest of fairness, let me also talk about Scientology, people can believe in Xenu and Thetans if that floats their boat but Scientology as an organized Religion has brought a lot of people a lot of misery and I can say that I think it's founder, L Ron Hubbard, was a huckster and a fraud.

It's not any different if I have similar harsh criticism of Islam.
OK, your beliefs are your beliefs. Whatever.

The point is, why bother bringing it up in this thread of all places?
