Meta GAF |ON| Gaf on Gaf

What would you like me to do exactly lol? I prefer my Gaf experience without all of his posts. I don't owe him any attention. I told him to have fun and enjoy the site, if he can't get over the fact that I'm not seeing his posts, that's on him.
What if you are central to his NeoGAF experience? Idk, just give it a thought.

:messenger_tears_of_joy:

Even if that were the case, me putting him on ignore doesn't prevent him from seeing and enjoying my posts.

I don't get why this guy is treated with kid gloves or something. He was brought back from a permanent ban, complete with his very own welcome back thread. People give him plenty of likes, and he has multiple defenders and back patters to reassure him that Gaf does enjoy his input and he's a good poster. And you still get drama from him like "Why don't more people like my posts" and "Why is EliteGaf ignoring me!!"

PSA: Nymphae Nymphae doesn’t like my posts either. I just put it down to him being a cunt, but maybe there’s something more to this...

JareBear: Remastered JareBear: Remastered - First up, the like-begging is annoying. You can do better than that. As to the likes themselves - I was not present at the boycott meeting but on the grapevine I've heard that it's because your left tit hangs lower than your right. People don't like that kind of freakery.

On a more serious note, I will smash that like button in the following circumstances:
1. The post is funny.
2. I agree with the post, and it seems high-enough effort to be something that I would like to reward.
3. I disagree with the post but the post is well-argued.
4. I value the content for some other reason (these reasons do not include the name of the poster).

I do not like a post based on who posted it, on who liked it, or any other equally superficial bollocks.

A quick tangent. I turned off my notifications. I was on here too much. I reckon I'm getting fewer likes now, but I would struggle to prove that with stats. I'm ok with that. It may well be that turning off notifications (I now just use Watched Threads to follow ongoing conversations) has removed the dopamine cycle which rewarded the cheaper like-grabbing posts, in favour of more thoughtful content, and my posts have adapted to that. Or perhaps everyone now thinks I'm a cunt. Who knows. I'm here for the conversation, not the likes.

I have a feeling this is a recent change :pie_thinking:

Not my issue, you seem to be the only one that doesn't understand. So it's clear this is an issue with your understanding and not my statement.

It sort of is an issue with you that you don't bother to respond to people questioning your arguments.

You said allowing users to opt out of the Likes system would create an echochamber, and did not explain how, or respond to my question for further explanation, yet you have time to bicker here with me about nothing?

Like just answer the question unless you can't lol

Well the first problem is you should read the whole post instead of what you wanted to read.

Then realize that yes, it does, because it makes it so that they control what they want to see likes for.

If you aren't able to put 2+2 together like the other users after a very clear explanation like that I ain't got nuthin for ya.

That does not follow. They will still see all posts if they have decided to hide likes from a subforum. Going to your preference page, in a hypothetical Likes section, and unchecking the Politics box would simply hide all Likes from that subforum. All posts, including those disagreeing with you, are still visible.

So again, how is that an echo chamber? I can provide the definition for you if you are unclear:

an environment in which a person encounters only beliefs or opinions that coincide with their own, so that their existing views are reinforced and alternative ideas are not considered.

Hiding likes would not hide posts.

The fact you had to move the focus of the discussion to make this statement is why you're not getting it. Why are you thinking about posts, the issues is like. 2-2=4, think about what a like could mean from someone in the SJW crowd and why they would benefit to hide likes. This literally does not take much processing at all, you're playing soccer with a baseball bat.

Because likes do not make an echochamber.

It does if more than one person agrees with what to block and they share the same ideology.

Not sure why you're having difficulty here.

More than one person agrees what to block? What are you talking about? My only suggestion is for individual users to be able to essentially remove likes from the site for themselves, I don't see how that alters the actual content of what appears on the site or encourages some opinions over others.

If two people have a PM conversation and decide they are both going to opt out of seeing all likes from Politics, how does that affect anything other than the visibility of thumbs up for those two people?

*sigh* this place can be so good, the freedom that allows us to be ourselves, no-filter, but I do sometimes think some members shoot themselves in the foot. All the talk of cucks and obsession with trans people makes this place look a bit alt-right and does nothing to retain more centrist types, and the spillover of resetera talk outside of the two threads (and indeed the high level of activity in those threads) makes it seem like those guys are living rent-free in people's heads. I get that it's cathartic to react against the insanity of the SJW mob, and the tendency will always be to go to the other extreme, but I'd really love to see more middle-ground. I'd also love to see a bit more promotion of good reads in the gaming forum to counter-balance the hostility towards the (admittedly mostly utter shite) gaming press. We have an opportunity to rebuild rather than tear down and it feels like we're missing it.

So...what happened to hariseldon last night? Heavy drinking? Seemed to go on an aggressive post spree putting multiple “cunts” in many a post. Even attacking the mods (maybe with tongue in cheek?). Very out of character.

Maybe he read my Aussie world domination post and is trying to get the word banned?

According to the post above, he does seem a bit disallusioned.

Just very strange.

Who knows. But the ban reason seemmed the use of cunt in so many places .

Not sure if 'cunt' word from europeans has the same meaning as aussies hold.

It was used in post titles and being needlessly aggressive with it. Compare his recent usage to what Matt404au has done. I don't think the mods care about the occasional "cunt" term, but when it is used specifically to attack others and in such an egregious way... well you get the idea.

The word was removed from the thread title to respect NSFW guidelines, and the post wasn't nuked, it was merged with the one in the proper forum, politics.

I am slightly curious why Sqorin Hammerfarf was banned for a post ,that was likely already seen by other mods, 4 days after the post was made, which was a response to another user thelodius, who was permanently banned.

It does seem a bit much to me, I mean I sort of interpret the post as a tongue in cheek jokey kind of post. All he said was "Then you ain’t heterosexual. You a bitch.", and the ban note is "I've never seen this level of gatekeeping over "who's the straightest" before..."

We actually discussed that one back and forth for a little bit (hence the delay), in regards to Hammerfarf....and for what it's worth, feelings were mixed on what to do.

Whether you're responding to a troll or not isn't really the point...at the end of the day you're kind of expected to not be a total asshat to other users. Telling someone else that "they're a bitch" for not understanding why anyone would want to play a game with a nude mod active...is kind of an asshat thing to do.

Just because you don't agree with someone, or someone is intentionally trying to rile people up...doesn't magically mean it's OK to start teeing off on people.

In this case, I can understand how different interpretations are possible...but this was the general consensus.

Hopefully you've seen elsewhere that we're not especially harsh or sensitive to tongue-in-cheek type posts. This specific one just felt not so tongue-in-cheek and more "you're not a real man" grandstanding.

...and seriously guys...it's less than a week ban. He'll be alright.

Yeah I know I can do the emojis in a post, but I like having some nuance to the Like button without the need for quoting or replying. I don't expect to be able to do multiples, but it would be cool, I've already had a few times where I'm sitting there trying to figure out which reaction is most appropriate.

Also, I just tried to "react" to this on mobile, and it only lets me do the default like, from the "desktop view" and mobile views.

Tell me about it. Reactions should be more inclusive. I want Italian hand gestures, so I can really express myself.
