“Gemini Man” 2019, from Ang Lee, starring Will Smith, Clive Owen, Mary Elizabeth Winstead

Holy shit, first off. THAT SPOILER TAG IS AWESOME.

How are you getting that effect?

nvm got it FUCKING AWESOME

On the trailer: Looks interesting enough. Throw some zombies in there and it's a few small adjustments away from I Am Legend 2.

Use [ i spoiler] instead of regular [ spoiler]

Apparently it’s an apply to images as well but I haven’t tried that

The concept seems interesting but it looks kinda... weird. Don't know if it's the editing or if the visual effects and post production are still very early, but if you take out the famous faces it looks like some Youtube fan film

He’s shooting at 120 FPS again. I may have to catch this one at a HFR screening.

Framed and lit for 3D and HFR. YouTube doesn't do it justice. Any 3D movie has odd moments in 2D, including conversions. Also, Ang Lee always has bizarre framing, editing and camera movements.

Paramount is planning some sort of HFR push for this. They sent test footage to cinemas last month. The current plan is to make 60fps 3D and 120fps 2D versions in addition to the native 120fps 3D.
Billy Linn was either 120 (on four screens lol) or 24. I guess the 60fps home version sold well.

I love the additional details - all that dust and gore looks wonderful. I also thought The Hobbit was incredible in HFR.

I think it looks pretty awesome and I generally enjoy Ang Lee movies.
How good is that de-aging technology as well? Fucking actors are never going to retire now, they will just digitally de-age them for years and years.

the problem with high framerate is all the assets look cheap as fuck unless you've invested in superior lighting / lenses

environment lighting looks like turd muffins at higher framerates

It's not de-aging like in Marvel movies, he's fully CGI. Motion capture like in Rogue One. They've been trying to make this movie since the late '90s.

What the fuck?
Fresh Prince Will is entirely CGI? That seems crazy, why not just de-age the face?

If he's entirely CGI the that is even more impressive than I initially thought.

Really, why? To make split screen easier/more consistent? It just seems like an expensive indulgence, kinda like the mocap in Alita that drove up the budget with little return in emotional investment (IMHO).

Looks like the Visual Effects Oscar race is over.

Will Smith being excited and explaining the CGI version of himself:

“They’re using my performance to create the CGI elements,” Smith said. “What is so spectacular — and the special effects team has absolutely outdone themselves — is it’s not de-aging; the younger character is not me. That is a 100% digital character. They didn’t take my image and just stretch some of the lines. It is a completely CGI character in the same way that the lions in ‘The Lion King’ are CGI characters.

Love Will, it’s been tough to see him in duds like that Netflix movie. I didn’t even hate on After Earth, he earned a mediocre vanity/family movie. Looks good 👍
