FFVII: Remake Trailer

With Early 2020 for release I don't expect part 1 to make it to the end of disc 1, and with what happens at the end of said disc I don't think they'd wanna release it like that either. Leaving a bunch of gen-z babies that never played the original with such a terrible plot twist could turn them off on the rest.

From what I heard, all of Midgar will be in Episode 1.

It looks like the stereotypical anime-trope on steroids. I never played FF7, but my entire gaming life has just been engulfed with FF7 memes about these characters. And when I was a teen, there was content like Advent Children. This does nothing for me, but it does look very good.

So because it’s been talked about we can’t talk about it? Of course it’s been known for years it’s action over traditional.

The new Xbox and PlayStation are going to be more powerful, we all know that, so we shouldn’t discuss them, right? Or give our thoughts on what’s going on? Don’t be daft.

Ofcourse you can discuss it.
I just think it's weird that people act like they're fans yet they all act surprised about all the changes made to the game, when any real fan of the game should've known this for a very long time.

So it comes across as either weird if you're truly surprised as a fan of FF VII, or butthurt because you still feel a need to complain about everything instead of just ignoring it if it isn't what you hoped for.

Again, anybody is free to say whatever he/she wants, but I'm just saying either of the above is utterly dumb.

Then again, I'm not helping by replying to people like you.
So...

So much for the rumour of scrapping the game and restarting it from scratch. This is clearly, for the most part the same project that was started 6 or 7 years ago. No problems with that, looks pretty good. Looks as good as I’d expect without seeing more of it. The voice acting sounds pretty poor but generalising massively i find all voice acting dreadful with the exception of Naughty Dog games. I grew up in the 80s and 90s & voice acting is still a newish thing for me to get used it.

Storyline is already there and is comfortably the best storyline ever in a game so no worries there. Art style and locations are legendary as well as the quotes. I can’t really think there’s any way i won’t enjoy this game and i am hard to please and give up on things easily. Replayed FF7 on the PS4 last summer and got the platinum trophy as a farewell playthrough and the game still holds up. I’m definitely ready for this remake.

Anyone else miss the bare forearms that the shinra grunt soldiers used to have? The new armor looks cool but I just liked how basic those guys were in design.

I am torn… I love the visuals

But I rather have turned based combat and hate episodic content. Curious on how they handle materia and what summons will look like.

We know why SE made it episodic. To make more money, of course. But I agree with your opinion.

You’re not the only one feeling cautious.

If they're gonna use action combat(which I generally prefer these days, but not for this game), then I at least hope they open up the world and make it fully explorable.

But I bet you they even scrap the world map entirely and just make it screen to screen, which would infuriate me.

Another thing that bothers me is that it’s episodic. Ew

That is a big thing for me as well, getting the airship was always the best part of the older FF.

I am wondering the time delay for a PC version?

It's episodic in the sense that each act is being treated as a sequel. This means that each act of the original game will be made into its own fully fledged "episode".

So we aren't gonna be getting little bits and pieces like you would in the Telltale games for example. This is more like if the original Star Wars trilogy had been one movie and gotten separated into 3.

What if "episodic" just means two games, one ending at Aeris' death and then the second half.

People are jumping to conclusions with little to no info.

They've also said they wanted to add all that Crisis Core stuff amongst other extras to the Remake, to expand the experience compared to the original.
If they also include a world map, as they have been talking about even before the reveal, it actually makes sense that they choose to not do the entire game in one go.

Dear god! Genesis is going to in this, isn’t? He was the worst part of Crisis Core.

FF7 was one of my "coming of age" games, and so it means a lot to me. For the old-schoolers there seems to be some level of contempt or assessment of mediocrity about FF7, compared to FF6, etc. But I never cared about any of that. It was my first big story heavy game, and I was blown away.

So the whole visual and audio design of this remake hits me right in the nostalgia.

It's clear that this won't play the same. Who even knows what this is at all!? Is it even the whole story? But just the fact that they brought this world back to life with modern hardware is kind of exciting to me. But, again, I REALLY dig the whole aesthetic of FF7, so, yeah.

Anybody else notice that the materia slots on the Buster Sword actually have some green materia in them?

You can see it when Cloud is fighting the Sagahin and when he is using the "not cross slash". It's a major blink and you'll miss it thing, but it's a nice touch. Interestingly they don't show up during cutscense though.

My fan theory is that S-E is dividing all attention and resources into making THIS

As perfect as it gets! If that's the case.... Take all your time, SE! :messenger_heart:

Hopefully they include more sidequests, bosses, WEAPONs, etc...

Even an option to save Aerith, although that is unlikely.

Saving Aerith would ruin the entire story.
Unless they could allow it as fan-service in a new game+ or something.

I hope the full trailer at the Square Enix conference will be edited with more, idk, emotion. More impactful and thoughtful editing.

This teaser trailer felt like a summarized cut of a much larger preview. Would love to see just how much they've scaled up Midgar, as I imagine it'll be a huge hub city with zones. How larger will the rest of Gaia be in reference to Midgar or Junon, etc? Will the Hardy Daytona only be rideable during the highway sequence or will we be able to ride vehicles into and out of towns and cities?

Seeing as how FF VII Remake is set to be the next big release from Square Enix, I hope we get an actual concrete explanation about the episodic format and the game length at E3 as well.

I think it would be neat if they made it as a secret alternate story line path, but they would need to write a whole new ending and story, so there's no way they'd do that.

I guess Cloud will have to "settle" with Tifa working his staff.

About saving Aerith option...

I mean, it is a remake, and for what is worth it could be some sort of a reboot.

I wouldn't mind having her alive.

I'm alright with them trying a new genre, but this is where I draw the line.

They need to leave the story alone. Add stuff sure, but do not CHANGE it. Aerith dying was a pivotal point in the story, and is core to how the events play out. It also has a massive impact on Cloud along with the rest of the cast.

As sad as it is, she needs to be dead (unless it's in an alternate path that they let you take, but as I previously pointed out, they won't do that).

Now all the turn based fans on PlayStation come out of the woodwork? Square released dragon quest 11 an amazing high budget turn base game in september and it barely charted outside of japan. They made the right call on this

That has less to do with having turn based combat and more to do with IP being not popular in west (which is shame, it such great series). FF, especially FF7 is pretty damn popular in west so it would have sold well regardless having turn based combat.

So, it will sell just fine with the new battle system too.

Can we move on now?

Yes but they are trying to expand ff7 not just sell to the same people. I know many people who skipped or dropped dragon quest 11 just because of the turn based nature of it.

I like both but it's real annoying that we are still hearing complaining about this so many years after the reveal of this game. If the action combat sucks than sure it's warranted but nobody has played or had an extensive look at it yet.

If you look at my pervious posts in this topic, my biggest issue with combat isn’t this no longer is turned based, sure I’m sad about it but my current issue with it is it doesn’t seem SE wants to commit to make the combat fully action RPG instead they going something in between similar to FFXV.

Completely understandable. If I remember right tabata did an interview for ff15 saying that the reason ff15 isn't fully action is because they wanted turn base player to have an easier time transitioning to a more action rpg. That's how we ended with ff15 just being such a let down in the gameplay department (among many things)

With tetsuya working on this and it being a lot of the kh2 team I have hopes that they will stop trying to please the turn based people who won't like it either way and make a solid action rpg out of it.

turn based is a thing of the past, or it's niche at least. Times change.

Also, no Tifa = lil disappoint...

How is it a thing from the past? It's like saying FPS are "from the past" because now most games are TPS.

Turns is one genre and its still alive and running. Persona5, Dragon Quest XI, Octopath Traveler....all games critically acclaimed and with good sales.

Not sure about Barret, but Cloud, Aerith, and Sephiroth are voiced again by their AC seiyu.

Takahiro Sakurai, Maaya Sakamoto, and Toshiyuki Morikawa - all three of them are extremely popular, and amazing anime/game voice actors.
Must be a low bar I suppose.
