Days Gone [OT] Days Gone B Gud

Well it will be interesting to see what exactly Survival Mode entails. Maybe it will add some elements as well as just making the game harder. The assets seem to be in place for a “cooking system” if they wanted to go for it

as they said survival mode will just be super hard without minimap and fast travels and other easier stuff. i will never try it thought for me survival in this game is enoug if you play all stealth and just with mele weapons and crossbow. thats enough survival.

So what you people using against hordes after finishing story?
And where finding crafting materials for those.
Using the primary weapon you found in the last camp plus magazine upgrade and the napalm molotof.
I beat hordes using mines, pipes bombs and using others camps to help reduce.
One tip, those new freakers attack others freakers as well. Any help can count.

I'm not into the survival horror aspects, so I'm playing on easy. Finding it more enjoyable that way. Less tense, but more enjoyable. I prefer a more relaxed experience. I'm more interested in the story, the characters, and exploring the world, rather than constantly fighting for my life and running low on supplies. To each his own of course. I believe the game was originally conceived as a survival-horror type experience with a single, rather challenging difficulty level. I'm glad they decided to expand the difficulty options for people like me, who really aren't into survival or horror experiences and prefer a more relaxed, story and exploration-focused experience.

seems it will remove survival vision as well. they dont mention any new abilitys to that mode just same as other games does, remove things that helped you to move around or see
and if i will need to bash 15 times at one freaker with machete im just not for it
more realistic mode for attacks would be easy mode i think because well you could kill freaker with one hit with sharp weapon or bat with saw blade on it. i would replay it on easy mode for more fun just story going mode.
or with some cheats like unbreakable melle weapon, that would be some fun .

I think that is the issue, you're removing some additional items/features and maybe making enemies harder but in the end its not really a survival game. Than you get into the position, if you remove skils/big guns how do you defeat the horde portions of the game. Also, most people are not really into survival games, heck, not sure I really was until I played the first part of this game.

I could see this series going in all kinds of direction, I really like the beginning survival type feel the most (although I really like it all on most levels)... they could have cut the game in half, got rid of all the cutscenes and story and stuck with the feel of the beginning of the game and expanded the survival mechanics I would be there day 1 for another $60, the thing is though - people don't buy that type of game in mass.

This game does so many things well, the problem is... nobody is going to get exactly what they want.

I get in the last episode. Just buy and will be yours forever on the bank. Both the primary and special weapon are pretty good. The special weapon was a powerful sniper weapon.
The secondary weapon I using the magnum get just by besting the game.
When you master the horde you can kill super easy. Most of tuto around the internet say to take hordes at the daylight, but I found night very good. The horde have three points:
- Sleep (only day)
- Eat
- Drink water
If you understand the rotine, you can use by afar a sniper rifle and bring to you just a portion of the horde. Killing little by little.
Is by far the strong aspect of the game. Just use your imagination and you can beat hordes super easy. I being playing on the hard difficult btw.

it was some weird with that best melee bat called superior or something that was like full on damage level but ones that you can craft is not same as you can find . and you can find it on some places like randomly i found it maybe 3 times but after that never again so im not sure whats going on with that most powerfull melee bat there

now question can you loose some of side missions with just doing main quest and then sides gone ? not talking about when you changing regions but if you on same region of map do those side missions can go away if you dont do them and them you progress too much?
i did some stuff where i clean camps too early without missions and then later when i got mission on that it was wierd because it was all cleaned allready and all speakers gone. but thats how i played game i just claned anything i found on map on my way without waiting for mission to appear for it so couple times i was doing like same camp twice because then later mission appeared on it and they put bad guys again there. but i guess more loot is more loot

I guess, if it was up to me I would probably split this game into two development groups.

1. Single player open world progression, plenty of resources and world like the back half of Days Gone more story, cinematic and more of a Red Dead Redemption 1 feel as far as missions and cut scenes.

2. Single player survival open world (more akin to the first part of Days Gone), limited resources, requirement to have to use stealth more, remove some features/systems, limited progression stats/equipment or you only have temporary access to weapons for hordes areas, with potentially some co-op potential for a stand alone, multi-player potential as well PvP or even PvPvE.

I guess, if I were have to pick I would pick #2 for a sequel. I see nothing wrong with Days Gone the way they did it but it would seem nobody is going to be completely happy with what they have done. I mean if you go out on Reddit, people are talking about not liking to have to fill their gas up in their bike, and to me those are the things that make the game more interesting. I was scared shit-less running up on hordes or fear of running out of gas, by 15 hours in... that was a distant memory. The thing about "survival" is most "survival" type games really don't sell, I think there has to be some middle ground or a component i.e. mp/co-op horde modes, idk. I love this game because its all over the place, but I also feel like there was a little lost opportunity because of the same reason.

Saber did pitch a MP portion, but not sure that is exactly what I am talking about. More survival plus the mp and co-op. What people are liking the most... the back half, to me is more akin to a normal game... which is cool but at the same time I thought the beginning part of the game is its own thing completely.

I feel like they should've opted for a RDR2 style needs/food/camp system. Allow us to cook the meat at a small campfire we can set up at any time (even if it's just to restore health).

Just finished the game, I really like the idea behind it but I'll still only give it a 6.5/10 for a few simple reasons:
- You really notice how it's the first AAA game by that studio (inexperienced, lacked quality in certain aspects like NPC animation work, audio bugs and mixing issues, gameplay issues)
- The constant slowdowns, that got worse the further I got near the end (occasionally locking up after fast travel or slowdown / FPS drops that lasted for minutes!!) are an absolute no go. Prime example is the credits at the end, which you can't skip, that LOCK UP for seconds whenever a cutscene fades in. Unacceptable.
- The loading screens are unacceptable. You see how they tried to have smooth transitions between cutscenes and gameplay (e.g. when at the end of a cutscene the camera smoothly transitions to behind the player, ready to take off on a bike) but you still get 5-10 second loading screens. What makes it worse is the fact that loads of missions consist of several short cutscenes queued up, so you watch 10 seconds of cutscene, 10s of loading, 10s of cutscene and so on. Who thought that was a good idea? Should've spent more resources on using the cutscenes to fully load the next scene...
- Often cringeworthy dialog / writing
- Fetch quest galore (someone said every quest feels unique on the PS discord, I rolled on the floor laughing).

I hope they fix the above issues for any potential sequel. Without the performance issues (locked FPS, no lock ups and loading galore) this could've easily been 8/10 for me.
I have to disagree on your point about bad writing and dialog. This game has great writing, and really good voice acting throughout. I don't know how this even comes up as a negative in a sea of poorly written games, this ain't one.

Yeah, I didn't get that either, I mean there are points that get game campy but nothing really bad, most of its actually real good... voice acting was up there with Red Dead Redemption (not John Marston, he's on a whole another level but close) to me. The casting was almost perfect. Whoever is playing Taylor is funny as shit as well.

rdr2 failed in camp system fully and later i found that i dont need to care for camp there at all. Here i care for camps because i bring stuff to them and for that i upgrade my bike. thats all i need here. in RDR2 i found that it could be good but it was pointless. maybe someone made mistake or smt but it was bad.
i just loved how much they put on same level Sarah in game with dialogs looks details and all stuff, very believable very realistic , and very good in face and all expressions that she made. very good acting on that part i guess that what made it so believable. like real person. very emotional too. very cool job done there. i thought tlou was like wow in emotions but here this engine lets it go on another level. Cant wait what tlou 2 will show us now.

Totally agreed. I haven't sifted through many reviews of the game, but I wouldn't take seriously any that rag on the writing. I usually don't pay attention to stories in games due to bad writing and acting, and I'm really pleased with Days Gone in this regard.

I think the writing of RDR1/2 is pretty well done, but let's be honest - the voice actor of John Martson really made the game to a large extent. He just makes you want to keep playing even if the gameplay sucks. The main story of RDR2 made pretty much no sense to me, 40 out of the 60 hours you play is about Arthur complaining about how bad Van der Linde is... literally the same lines over and over in just different sequences, "I just don't understand", "this is not how we do things".... than Van der Linde replies back for 40 hours back, "You just don't believe Arthur". Literally, I got to the point of.... well, if you can't figure out robbing banks and trains isn't good by now, maybe you do deserve to die. Exactly how many times are you going say Linde is bad before you do something about it? :messenger_tears_of_joy:

The whole time I am thinking Arthur is the bad one because he is the one doing all the missions. :messenger_tears_of_joy:

Special: BFG

Skill tree for stamina and bullet penetration. Mix NERO injection of health and stamina.
 
Chicago Chopper is a beast.

Having so much fun clearing out these last hordes. Once I got the plat trophy I could sit back, pump some tunes, and ride my chopper around stirring up some killing frenzies. Amazing

There is still missions after ending and even cutscenes and some more story...wow and hordes on easy lvl are realky simple and some hordes are just like 20 freaks some bigger. But i will do now hordes and see all there...

Re. the storytelling, although I like it a lot so far, I do have some quibbles. I'll spoiler tag this for anyone who hasn't started the game yet, but it's a flashback scene that comes early on in the game. It shouldn't be a spoiler for anyone who's put more than about 10 hours in.

In a flashback, Deacon sneaks behind a crazy guy who has been shooting at him, his injured wife and best friend. This is before he gets Sarah on the chopper. This guy is firing at them and shouting crazy shit. So Deacon sneaks behind him, then puts his gun away, stands up, and puts his hands in the air. He says, "Whoah, don't shoot." Now this is a guy who has been actively shooting at them, and they are in dire straits. Sarah is severely wounded, so is Boozer. The freakers are all around. They are fighting to survive. His wife and friend are depending on him.

I find it really hard to believe that a roughneck biker would, under those circumstances, sneak behind a guy who's shooting at them, then stand up with his hands in the air and hope to not get shot. The overwhelming probability in that situation is that he will startle the already crazed, fearful person and get shot. What a character like Deacon (or most men, I think) would've done is shoot the guy or at least take him down from behind -- not stand up with his hands in the air, saying "don't shoot." That's a great way to get killed and leave your wife and best friend screwed.

That scene felt contrived to me, like something out of a movie. I think they just wanted to show Deacon was a good guy, then how shattered he is to have to take a life. I'm a nice guy, but if someone is shooting at me, my wife, and my best friend, the last thing I'm going to do is sneak behind him, then drop my gun, hold my hands up, and hope that he won't shoot me.

Just a minor niggle. Overall I like the story, dialog, and voice acting. I have some allowance for this, because I know John Garvin wrote the script, and I don't think he's a professional writer. He wrote Syphon Filter's script, and that wasn't going to win any Pulitzers, lol. Still entertaining, though.

The subsequent mission to get the fuck out of the stronghold and then the following cutscene was so fucking good. Goddamn Skizzo.

I stopped right when Deek and Boozman left the "meeting" and now what I'm GUESSING is that they're going to head out to that barricaded tunnel to the west and blow it up so they have an entrance to Iron Butte.....and then go wipe out Jesse & and The Rippers (nice Full House reference by Bend 😂)

SHIT IS GOING DOWN TONIGHT.

Game is so so awesome

Been playing for quite a while; lots of time invested. Whoever said this game was long wasn't kidding...not necessarily in a bad way, but yea there are points where it slightly feels stretched for it to be longer. Also, there are a few characters who I kinda wish would die off at this point (Hi Lisa).

THAT BEING SAID, I'm just now at the end portions, and this game is not a 5/10, for fuck's sake. It's obviously not BotW levels as far as open worlds go, but come on. Even the bugs I've encountered are minimal at best. I'm honestly probably done taking game reviews into consideration after this; I would have totally missed out on a great experience if I had listened to IGN/Gamespot.

Whole heartedly agree. No, the writing isn’t Shakespeare (or even the higher moments of something like TLoU), But it is absolutely solid and dare I say nuanced in some respects. And the voice acting carries it the rest of the way. (Also, Deacon is a more complex and layered protagonist than Joel).

I’ve been playing video games a long time, i know what bad writing is, this ain’t it.

This got thrown around in the early days from reviewers who had a clear agenda about the game because of its “generic” artstyle and story. (And kind of like some forums comparison with Mad Max, which is so silly it’s not worth discussing).

It really is a solid first offering from Bend and sales are reflecting that.

As all game if someone wants to play as super tuff bearded biker who dont give a fkc thats not this game. Its not action game too. And not even zombie/freaks kiling game. Yes you kill lot of people and even more freaks but still its never about that. Its about love, because all purpose you still alive is that one thing.
And lisa is amazing here. General and all his bs i would just kill him first thing and be done with it.
and al most open world games there is problem with what story says and what you do because those are not same things... its from long long times we had same problem, lets say GTA4 you poor russian guy comes to city big city lots stuff going on but you and your cousin are poor so you just live in shit flat... next tthing you go out in street you steal most expencive cars and drive them as maniac you kill some people arround and blow up feds ... and then story comes and you poor again and you dont know what to do ... hold on i know what to do im doing this allready ...
and most later games same problem... so this game kinda delt with it but kinda not... specially if you do sime mission early and even cleaning stuff what is not yet side missions, so in way you kill with bear hands like 100 or more people man and women just cut them in most gruesome ways doing this all over and again ...and then come story mission and you poor guy you scared you lost you dont wanna hurt anyone ... hold on what ??? so what i was just doing now last couple hrs... ? lol so you must just accept it and move on ... but later when you move to that army map side i was really pissed of there and wanted shoot them in the face and move on because they have so large camps and people training and such and noone can do missions there, all just siting ass in camps and eat food that you bring in ... sorry what ? you clean camps of 20 people or more you kill so many people not freaks and later dude says well done keep doing good work soldier... wait what ? you could clean all that camp like in half hours and all would be dead there alone because you just killing machine... i mean c mon noone can do there what you do.

cool thing that after ending if you roam map just for pleasure there are still guys there having new camps and road bloks making traps for you ... so still something new, map is not clean
 
My honest impression with Lisa was they originally had a lot more story beats with her but cut it out to avoid being too much like TLOU. Personally I wanted more Lisa.

Also wanted more Rikki.

Sarah was so good character and so good looking and life like person.
i was hoping more missions with your brother i mean why not drive with him on missions on one bike and doing more killing . and why you cant drive with one hand ?? im sure i saw people driving bikes with one hand i mean its possible and he just goes ok im done no more bikes... wel go on 3 wheel bike or something then ... i mean cmon.

About half of these I have seen in game but some of them especially the animal stuff I haven't experienced yet. May contain location spoilers. Crazy amount of detail, I have no idea how a <100 studio did all this, whether someone likes the game or not its still very impressive on many levels.

I've noticed a lot of those. The game is just packed full of details. I have yet to see a cougar yet though...definitely looks like I don't want to.
Also, screamers....ugh. I thought I was crazy the other day when I heard humming; now I know why. Those things remind me so much of Banshees from ME. Thank god they're not nearly as powerful.

And those screamers dont just humm if you listen it longer you can almost hear it sings...its so creapy... I went outside to look for one and there was noone around still it was singing....those are like most creapy looking things from close....try play this at night in full darkness with headphones
