RAGE 2 Reviews thread

EverydayBeast

thinks Halo Infinite is a new graphical benchmark
Rage 2 has a little bit of the modern day FPS charm to it, reviewers overreacting to a series that is still developing is still fun to see.

Not digging the controls at the moment. Using a 360 controller on pc and there is some seriously strong camera/aim acceleration...

Edit: Ugh, the vehicle controls are waaaaaay worse. Holy crap.

Don't forget, his review was mainly on PC version, apparently the performance and graphics on the consoles are not good! The X and Pro don't run higher than 1080p and struggle to hit 60FPS at times. That is trash performance! I love 60FPS but not if being forced to run 1080p on a 75 inch TV lol.

As far as the actual game goes, it seems decent but the performance side puts me off when it comes to console version.

Frame rate is fine on Xbox. Can't speak for PlayStation.

Damn. I got it on X1X
Give us your impressions later on please

Good humor, plays like Doom, feels like doom and I like that a lot. Cool musik, gore and blood. Plays super smooth (I am playing it on PS4 Pro) havent installed the day One patch!

Enjoying it but wish there were more options for the HUD. It's either off or on, that's it. If you turn it off you can't see who or what to interact so you just about have to always have it on.

Almost 2hrs in and I'm not digging it near as much as I was hoping. Doesn't feel nearly as good as DOOM to me. The whole thing is looking (4k, ultra settings, no AA) and feeling kinda mediocre, tbh. UI, humor, story, characters, art direction...eeh. Probably going to get a refund. =/

Holy shit, 75 inch? I have a 65 inch Q9FN and I'm already not looking forward to seeing how this will look, 75 inch is going to be even worse. A few friends of mine have a 50 inch screen and it nearly isn't as noticeable then. Truly wish they would have given us options, like how the Tomb Raider games offer options for 60fps with lower resolution, 4K with 30fps and even a visuals mode.

I was watching a analysis video of the game yesterday and I noticed the soft picture quality right away. Maybe they'll add a 4K mode at some time? Not holding my breath though.

Don't know if you guys know him, but MrmattyPlays (huge Bethesda Game Studios fan) really enjoyed the game as well. Interesting how some outlets say the game world really isn't all that great and I believe pc gamer even called it dull, but Karak from ACG and Matty say the exact opposite.
Nah. He's a Bethesda shill. He thought FO76 was the shit. So no I'll skip.

On a lighter note. I love Staffords as well. I have one and his name is Billy

Metacritic is at 73%. Yuck.
So if a game isn't 90+ it's a bad game? Thank God I don't listen or watch review scores to make my mind up what I buy. Otherwise I wouldn't be playing many games. Some of the best games are ones with low scores.

playing it on XBox X. with an LG C8. hate to say it, but it does look shitty. like there's pixel crawl and just looks like it's grease smeared if that makes sense. didn't think that 1080p would look that bad, but it's almost a deal breaker. Only got like 40 minutes in so I'm still going to give it a shot, but definitely is far from crisp. Perhaps I need to turn my tv to 1080p to match? No clue. Gunplay is super tight though.
had the same experience with "just cause 4"
it's the same engine, i was thinking me xbox x or my tv is broken.
the brutal thing is that i have played many BC xbox 360 games on my X and they are sharper and looks better overall.

Some of my fave games this gen are universally panned by “critics”. And some games that are rating powerhouses i wouldn’t touch with a barge pole.

I never listen to ratings sites. I also don’t listen to reviews that much, because these days reviews are done by idiots who don’t even get the game.

But when everybody says the same thing and gives the same complaint... You do start to think maybe something is off...

The dodge mechanic is what got me. Had to switch to gamepad too. Should've just given us double-tap WASD for dodge or something.

As for the vehicles, I think they're fine. Everything has serious understeer, but pretty easy to compensate since they ride so slow.

It looks like this game falls short with the same issues that kept the first from being a classic. The game looks great and has a lot of good ideas but the game seems to just come to a stop as soon as you start to get deep into it. The first Rage was shaping up to be awesome, I was playing it and getting really into it and then it just ended. I literally felt like I had just gotten to a point where the story was going to pick up and it all just ended with a huge cliff hanger. Now we finally get Rage 2 and it does not seem to pick up where the first one left off and it seems to have that abrupt ending that leaves more gameplay to be desired again!!! I don't get it. I will happy to play this game in mobile rather than PC. My advice to company to focus more on mobile game development as compare to PC.

Nice one! English or American? Mine is a mix. English mom and American dad. Incredibly lovely dog, so kindhearted and wants to befriend any human or dog, haha.

You sure about him praising 76? I recall a video of him about the beta, he seemed a little positive about a few things there but I recall seeing his video review and that wasn't glowing at all.

This game is really running at 1080p on the X? Where's Digital Foundry on this one?

On April 30th, you didn't state Days Gone as a game you are playing. I don't necessarily have an issue with your opinion, if you have one, but you act like you are playing the game. Which could be the case but I am very suspect.
Yeah ive put about 12 hours into days gone, not my cup of tea, found it dull and repetitive, played Rage 2 a few hours now and the gun-play is great, however i can see it becoming dull after a few more hours.

i would accept it if it was solid 60fps, but apparently it isnt! kinda pathetic

It is Avalanche at the end of the day, I don't trust them when it comes to performance after Just Cause 3. They really should have had a 4k/30fps option. Open world at stable 60fps is probably asking too much of these consoles.

Well, Days Gone definitely changes around the 12-15 hour mark. The first quarter of the game, imo, is more of survival horror game, once you get to the camp #3, its more like Red Dead Redemption 1, imo. There is definitely a significant change up once you get to camp #3 and beyond. I personally like the first part of the game better, but most people like it more after camps 1/2 i.e. more story, story elements, dialogue and cut-scenes. The first 10-15 hours is more of a survival MGS game, the rest is more of RDR1.

Imo, if you're bored of Days Gone, most likely you should stick to linear games as its not going to be much higher in the excitement scale than that for open world (I've finished RDR2 about 6 weeks ago, and I have finished Horizon this cycle as well), at least for me.... I haven't played the Witcher 3, and generally I don't dig open world games. I like what Mad Max was doing in some parts and loved Chumbucket and the car and the storms but I could only finish about 30% of that game. Rage 1 is in my top 10 of favorite single player games.

Not all games are for everyone - I actually avoid open world games, generally speaking. To me this was a lost opportunity, Rage 1 was awesome in many ways, the problem is the people looking for an open world game.... were going to be disappointed as it was really just a hub world. Just looking at the videos of Rage 2.... they basically took Rage out, and took the best parts out of Mad Max and added Doom gun play. All they really need to do is add Rage 1 corridor segments to Mad Max.... and add in a few more open world elements.

I agree not all games are for everyone, i always prefer the Fantasy setting to anything else such as futuristic/apocalyptic/modern day, RDR2 along with god of war are my favourite games currently, couldnt get into TLOU or Horizon, i have days gone digitally and will be playing it more, watching cohhcarnages stream did make me feel it was worth the effort.

I had the first Rage when it came out. Back when John Carmack was running it on an iPhone and the id Tech 5 engine was super hyped. I enjoyed it, but my push to complete it vanished. I enjoy a good FPS campaign, but the environments really dragged on instead of inviting me to play more. I had a similar issue with Mad Max. I don't want to pay full price for it.

I haven't played Mad Max in awhile, but this feel just like my memory of that game whenever I'm driving around.

I've played maybe three or four hours (xbox one x) so far and have enjoyed it. Twice in that time I've had sections of road that were unbelievably blurry, but it was fleeting and felt like the depth of field bug.

For the most part the game looks good, though nowhere near cutting edge.

The gameplay is solid though (so far). Tight shooting and steady progression of abilities have kept me entertained. Absolutely no regrets in buying it.

If you liked Mad Max this is definitely worth a try. It's the kind of game that would benefit greatly from a demo because a lot of reluctant people might be surprised by how much fun it is.

Mine is an Amstaff. Brown like the one in your avatar.

Yeah there were some videos after it where he sort of seems to have Stockholm syndrome.

yes! exactly. last night i was thinking, "is my tv messed up?!" i feel like i've got some setting off or something. i don't understand. i played Mad Max back in the day at 1080 (granted on a 1080 monitor) and it looked crisp af. definitely need to figure out how to make it clearer.

It seems like everyone is comparing it to DOOM, but my experience so far is that it plays a lot more like Bulletstorm than DOOM. The only DOOM-specific aspect I see is the double jump, but the gunplay and power combos feel a lot more like Bulletstorm than any other FPS I can think of. I think it's a lot more like 'Mad Max + Bulletstorm' rather than 'Just Cause + DOOM'.

90 minutes in, I feel like I'm playing Rage and Mad Max at the same time. Very strange.

The talking car is brilliant!

It's made by ID and Avalanche, the makers of Rage and Mad Max. Don't see how that is strange.

Also funny to see this has the same MC score as Days Gone

I'm playing this on the base PS4 and the input lag is very annoying. Apparently it's not an issue on the Pro. :/

I'm having a lot of fun with this one. I loved the Mad Max game and this is just a better version of that, but as a FPS.

No glitches or problems so far on PC. And it's cool you can get it for like 40$.

Played it with my brother taking turns today. If you look past the story and just want to spend the a few days playing a game and having mindless fun, its good. But you can't take this game serious. The story is stupid and you will not want to or be able to follow along with it. The story seems to be there just to be there if that makes sense, it doesn't engage you. But the game itself is fun. Nothing special.
