"MARS, an "innovative point-and-shoot lightgun gaming system" is due to bring back the nostalgic arcade lightgun shooter with three bundles heading to Xbox One. You'll have co-op zombie shooter Voyage of the Dead, 4-player action platformer Qubit's Quest, and animal shooting sim Big Buck Hunter: Arcade to choose from.

Each MARS Starter Pack bundle comes with a game, a Lightcon peripheral and IR Station camera for $99.99 and additional MARS lightcons can be purchased for $29.99 each. Pre-ordering any bundle now from mars.pdp.com, Amazon, GameStop or the Microsoft Store will also grant an extra lightcon for free.

Voyage of the Dead, Qubit's Quest, and Big Buck Hunter: Arcade will also be available separately for Xbox One priced $19.99 each, and the MARS lightcon is compatible with all modern TV sets and projectors. More MARS titles are planned for the future too, with these first three scheduled for release in autumn 2019."

It will be nice if other companies support this but at least it's a start

Send in the title repair crew!

OnT: Could be nice. I hope we get to see more games for it.

Now Microsoft needs to come out with a space channel 5 type game for this and you got the market cornered baby!

Or you could stick reflective tape on the corners of your TV and use the Switch's right joycon backwards, but that would be too easy :/

I’ll be all over this if we start getting time crisis, hotd, virtua cop cop games released.
Also all those newer arcade games like terminator genesis, halo, Jurassic Park shooters ported over.

I'll buy an Xbox for HotD 1 or 5. I guess Sega will watch and see if it's successful. Does look a bit naff though.

Edit: just found this video:

They've got to do better than this. If it fails it's not because there isn't a market for lightgun shooters, it's because the game sucks.

Damn... It looks like one of those toy guns from the dollar store. I'm all in for more light gun games but this design is fugly.

And don't forget the branding. "Ready, Aim, Fun!" really rolls off the tongue...

My first impression is that this is marketed to a casual audience in a similar way to the uDraw Tablet or Kinect, and therefore will die on its arse.

Holy fucking shit microsoft. Could you be any more behind the times?

You had the best lightgun ever made, kinect, and threw it away on shitty wank stars wars games while your fanbased screamed for time crises, house of dead and area 51.

You could have even added realistic squat n pop shooting.

Idiots.

they discontinued kinect...just to come out with this?

Could the light gun scream any louder "I am not a real gun"?

No thanks.

I love a plague tale innocence, I'm on chapter IX at moment. Going to replay through it & Rime. My 2 favorite games I've played this year so far.

How is it behind the times? In fact I’d say they were behind the times by not having this sooner.

Kinect was never that popular enough to even warrant those titles, no 3rd party studio was going to port or make a game from those IP’s for a device that just didn’t catch on.

I still think Microsoft should have entered the VR arena with the Xbox like Sony has with PS4.

What is everyone here talking about, like Microsoft developed this?

I'm actually excited as fuck if they bring out some good games for this. Namco on PS1 was some of the best times I've had in gaming with friends it's sad we lost the ability when CRT's went away, if we could have plug and play guns with no other accessories needed I doubt this genre would have ever died. Kinect was an awesome bit of kit, and I still see it used all the time in museums and themeparks, twice in the last 2 weeks actually alone. But those gun accessories never felt the same as something like this or the Namco or had any of the games to match.

Why the gun doesn't look like an actual gun? I think we all know.

Now, get on board Point Blank & Time Crisis and you've got me day 1. These games with friends with a few drinks? Sign me up.

$99.99 isn't unreasonable, if it came with a killer game that really pushed the light gun idea. I'm not seeing that here.

Mars: Hey Microsoft can we make a light gun that works on your console?
Phil Spencer: Sure why not?

How does the NES light gun from 1985 manage to look cooler and more modern than that?

To be fair, that’s probably the best looking light gun ever. Personally I’m less concerned about the aesthetics and more curious about the accuracy and weight.

Sorry but no.

Yikes. Those look pretty bad. They should just pack in all three games.

Oh no!! It’s this gen’s Kinect happening all over again. Next gen Xbox will be all in on light guns if this is successful!
But seriously, this will fun. Miss the old light gun games and with this gen’s graphics it should make for some really awesome games!

As far as light gun games go, nothing will ever beat Time Crisis on PS1 for me. Talk about days and nights me and my friend used to spend playing that game over and over. Which is pretty impressive for such a short game.
As for this gun, yeah it looks shit, but who cares how it looks?. Also this isnt a Microsoft made gun so all the microsoft haters can just dial it back a bit for once in your pathetic lives.

The difference being of course that light gun games are rad and Kinect games were dumpster fires

I’d prefer virtua cop etc in VR or on switch to be honest.

I don’t want yet another camera or ugly peripheral clogging up my space.

I love my original gray zapper, so much better than that ugly orange version that came afterwards.

Something about the sound and feel of the trigger pull on it was addictive.
