Super Mario Maker 2 Nintendo Direct tomorrow

I am so hype!!

On my wishlist is the ability to make 3D-Mario type levels.

Like, at least so that you can make pipes in the "3D World" style that'll take players to a 3D "Super Mario 3D World" area that has a Z-axis, and you can make miniature "3D-style Mario" areas there.

Anyone else hopeful for that? The 2D Mario stuff is good enough tbh, its just that would be a nice bonus being able to make 3D areas too.

Make your own overworld map would be kinda cool.

Are you hoping for any surprise-reveals of game templates or particular mechanics?

Co-op making. There it is.

Wow they just blew right through that.

New Koji Kondo music!

New course themes like desert, snow and forest. Every theme can be a day or night level.

4-player online versus and co-op modes!

Co-op making is pretty cool. That might compensate for the online required. :pie_thinking:

I'm so torn up, Nintendo.

New course themes is cool, and the story mode seems meaty. Maybe it'll be good enough as as standalone, even without the level-sharing.

Gentlemen, we can rebuild it. We have the capability to make the world's first enhanced store. Steam will be that store. Better than it was before.
Seems like a lot of stuff on offer here which is nice, game looks like a legit sequel (compared to when it was first announced and it looked like a port).

I don't plan on getting a Nintendo Switch Online account, and the game seems pretty barebones from a single player standpoint. My hype was instantly deflated when they said that local co-op requires the lobby creator to have a Switch Online account.

$70 for Mario Maker bundled with 12 months of Switch Online. $10 discount, worth considering.

(It stacks if you already have Online)

Ok erm, haven’t thought about this before but...

How does this work with the online shit? Like, do I need to buy the switch online stuff to download levels, or will that all be free? Has any of this been mentioned?

It sounds like you need online to do much of anything.

Even if you just want to set up a lobby to play with 3 other Switch owners in the same room, one of you needs to have Online to set it up.

Lot's of extra spots on that menu for more themes...

I may wait for a physical deluxe edition in 1-2 years that includes all the DLC stuff.

Online multiplayer co-op and vs is legit megaton and this game will sell gangbusters as a result. Very good move, Nintendo.

That Game Voucher thing at the end is kind of useless. At least in the UK.

The Online Pass is £16/17 and buying two games makes it £84 (£42 each). If you can shop savvy, you can get any game under £40 without the Online pass, so the Voucher is useless even for online.

Should have been 2 for £50 instead.

Super Mario Maker 2 does look good, but sadly I couldn't get into the first game.

Yeah, also Amazon are selling the base game for £40 and the subscription combo-pack for £60. Doesn't make sense.

Ok, but as somebody not really interested in coop for this, and all I want to do is make courses, upload them, and play other people’s courses... How screwed am I without the yearly fee? I mean it’s not exactly expensive, but is it required for that?

Yes, an online subscription will be required to upload / download courses online.

You need online for that. A 3-month sub is $10, I think?

Requiring Online for course sharing is not shocking, but the absence of local course playing on one Switch is a bit baffling given they put the (surely greater) effort into providing co-op course building.

Yaaa this is weird isn't it. Only reason I can think of it not being Included is to give New super Mario Bros U a shred of selling point after this.

that was better than I expected
It's kinda sold me as well actually. I'm not much into the creating side but having original courses and being able to truly play against people online is a great selling point.

I'm debating if the game is worth it if I can't be arsed making courses.

It's really annoying when Nintendo make it out like a good deal because we're pretty price sensitive.

Every time I do a survey for Nintendo, I mention their deals are pretty poor as it's quite laughable when you see a "Deal" of Arms or Mario at £36/7 from the usual £50. Heck, I found Splatoon 2 at £33 at one point online.

That's where I'm at. I would probably buy three copies of this game for me and my kids if it meant we could build courses separately and run through them when we all got together. Now that I know that scenario means I'll have to buy a subscription, it's gonna be a pass from me all around.

The story mode might be interesting enough for me to warrant picking this up, but it looks a bit bolted on and used as an excuse to teach you how to make new levels.

Buying 3 copies of a game but won't spend $20 on a yearly subscription is kinda off to me but whatever floats your boat.

As for me, if I have the funds I'll probably grab it. Marvel ultimate alliance is where its still at for me tho.

For me it's a matter of principles mostly: I don't ever play online multiplayer so I don't pay for online multiplayer. This game is asking me to purchase a subscription to online multiplayer so I can play local couch co-op and that's a bridge too far for me.

I'd also like to know that in a few years time I could still fire this up and perform the above scenario, without having to re-subscribe.

I get it and agree with your situation. I hate having to pay for multiple online subscriptions thru different consoles. But I also look at it as I buy things that's not needed daily in my life, why not use that money towards at least a couple hours of fun.

All the new options, dang, it’s so much. Looks like there will be so many ways to make levels, really looking forward to it.

Most exciting news is the new music from Koji Kondo! I’m assuming it includes new 8/16-bit chiptune themes. Droool....

Holy shit yes, online multiplayer! Now I have a reason to nag my friends into buying it for our online nights.

Also:

*nintendo announces online subscription service*
*certain people when Nintendo announces online functions for a game requires said subscription*

I don’t really understand the need for co op level making. From what they said it is only done local on one screen and I don’t think I have ever thought in MM1 “yeah, having a second person to build shit in my way on a cramped screen would be a great idea”. Not to mention the scroll wheel selectors from both players that will keep popping up.

If they put in local network / online co op making where the other player can build at different parts of the level...

Got the one with $10 off Nintendo Online. Basically, this plus the amazon prime twitch 1 year NSO deal, and my original year subscription, I got 3 years for $30. Half the price.

All of the additions are very nice. Boom Boom!
