yeah i'm actually sitting here kinda pissed how good this is, because it's basically the only reason i want a switch now
The online deal is just like with all digital titles, the discount still makes it more expensive than buying physical copies.
This has always surprised me as there is no cost to Nintendo for the box, artwork, game cartridge, and the cost of getting the game to retailers.
They addressed it in the past saying that digital titles offer you the convenience of having the title always available, not being able to lose it, etc... and they are charging you for the extra convenience.
The
Still does not convince me though, and with Nintendo there is no guarantee you will be able to take these purchases over to their next console, like you can with Microsoft of Sony's account system, and then there is still the issue of the cartridge,we are always being told how much they add to the cost of producing games, and how some developers will include an initial download as they do not want to pay for a larger capacity game cartridge,so there is now way digital games should cost more.
Look, I do not agree with the pricing of digital goods... we were promised cheaper games as some of the savings would be passed onto consumers (especially as we lose the right of resale and our content can be disabled by the online seller at any time).... :/...
The only time we were “promised” cheaper prices was when MS was trying to hype people about their DRM phase.Look, I do not agree with the pricing of digital goods... we were promised cheaper games as some of the savings would be passed onto consumers (especially as we lose the right of resale and our content can be disabled by the online seller at any time).... :/...
I was not having a go at you,I was just stating my position on the subject,I did not realize you were also against the pricing of digital titles.
Hopefully we'll see far better courses this time around than we did with the original. So many half-baked auto-play levels... so many horrid wanna-be Kaizos... so many "lol random" courses. Hard for good courses to rise up from the deluge of awful or lazy crap either in the old system of course discovery. Regardless, this looks much better in terms of level variety and tools, and it was already amazing in the original game.
I think Amibos are pretty much dead. I wouldn't mind seeing them go to be honest.unless we have rumors or a tweet from Nintendo
I have a feeling all of the Amiibos might not be in this one. Maybe all the 3rd party ones are not in or many none at all.
That was really neat to see all of those in 8-16bit
To answer my own question. It apparently supports local play. Excellent. So, sharing levels online seems to be gated behind the online pay wall....but what I have seen is so fucking beautiful. Maybe Nintendo Online will be my first console online subscription ever? (Probably not, though. Lol). Question is: Do we know whether Super Mario Maker 2 supports local play?

Well, it might not be that far off to assume that if there is local co-op stage building, then there is a good chance that you'll also have local co-op for playing. But you are right. There's no official info on that, yet. Maybe on the Japanese Mario Maker 2 site? At the latter part of the site, it shows Toadette and Toad playing together with Joycons. My Japanese is far to crappy yet to deduce definitive info on that, sadly (Still learning).I’m not sure where NintendoLife is getting that. So far Nintendo has confirmed local co-op stage building, online multiplayer and “LAN” multiplayer, but nowhere two players playing through courses on the same device. AFAICT.
I’d love to be corrected, though.

Ah fuck. Actually, now that you mention "Nintendo being Nintendo", my confidence took a nosedive, lol. Nintendo could actually do a move like that...Exactly! It’d be such a Nintendo move to throw in all these other modes and features but leave out the one really easy and obvious thing that they’ve already managed to provide in other Mario titles. Online co-op play and local co-op building, but we don’t dare touch local co-op play!
Sorry, it’s just so maddeningly Nintendo.

I was able to consistently find incredibly well-made levels in the original game, by following top creators rather than doing random search.
There was also the cool ability to link directly to levels from Youtube etc, and then to send that level to your list from any web browser if you log in. If you used that, you could track down some pretty amazing new content every single day.
The links looked like this: https://supermariomakerbookmark.nintendo.net/courses/CB4A-0000-03B7-7960
I hope they keep that external site functionality, because it made it incredibly easy to integrate social media sharing of levels, via YouTube, Twitter, etc -- and to instantly jump into a level you saw on one of those platforms.
Was the YouTube feature available at launch?
Local play will never happen due to the limitations of SMB1, SMB3, and SMW game styles. In the NSMB games they have screen zooming to accommodate 4 players (something not present in any of the aforementioned game styles.)
Was the YouTube feature available at launch? I only remember watching the videos Dashie made when I played the game, and he mostly just did the Kaizo stuff. I know my brother knows of a few more Youtubers who play levels that are usually quite clever over the Kaizo bait ones, I'll probably have to ask him about those people some time soon.
I think you just add the link to your video as an annotation or in the video description. It's not actually a Nintendo-specific feature.
Co-op making is pretty cool. That might compensate for the online required.
I'm so torn up, Nintendo.
New course themes is cool, and the story mode seems meaty. Maybe it'll be good enough as as standalone, even without the level-sharing.
