Open Beta available now on Steam -

March 26th release date on PC and XB1, not sure about PS4 and Switch.

Made by the devs of 'All Star Fruit Racing'' kart racer (underrated gem)

Devs were talking about this game months ago on the Steam forums, its their homage to arcade racers, and Scud Race in paticular, a game they are huge fans of and think its criminal that we never got a home conversion.
Haven't tried the beta myself, but will do tomorrow. It looks promising for sure.

Ok couldnt resist trying the beta out before bed. Well the game is what it says on the can, an old school 'hold accelerator, tap handbrake to drift round corners' arcade racer, complete with pretty damn impressive visuals (maxed out on PC anyway), and even has old Sega racer style music.
I think if you like old school arcade racers, you will like this.

I tried out the beta as well. It's one of the more promising arcade racers I've played in awhile. The controls need a little tweaking imo. It seems to me like they're trying to mimic Ridge Racer and haven't quite got there yet. It's too easy to come out of a drift, so going around an "S" curve means you have to restart a drift. Once you straighten out, your car, the drift ends automatically. Also, starting a drift could use some tweaking imo. For instance, if you tap the gas, it has to be a specific amount of time. For example 1/2 sec between releasing and reapplying the accelerator will initiate a drift. I found this the best method to use, but the problem is if you try to initiate a drift outside of that window, it won't work. This is a problem for tighter turns where you need to slow down. Tapping your breaks to start a drift requires you to also be accelerating and more often than not caused me to crash. Maybe I just need to adjust to the controls, but I think the learning curve might end up turning some people off if they can't get this ironed out.

I had that problem with drifting at first, but a little practice and i could drift into a drift with opposing corners. Didnt try the release accelerate drift start, i was just using the tap handbrake to start a drift method, its very much like the OutRun reboots like that. I was using one of the slower cars though, maybe its much harder to control with the faster cars. Anywya only had a quick 30min test, as its 7:30am here and i havent been to bed yet lol.

I haven't played Outrun in awhile, but I still don't remember it coming out of a drift so easily. Like I said, this is mainly for the "S" curves where you'll automatically exit a drift the moment your car straightens out. It's like having too much traction control on a real car, idk. I'm using the car that's second from the left (the white one) which seems to be quite a bit faster than the pink one they start you off with. I know it sounds like I'm complaining, but I really think this is one of the best arcade racers I've played in a while. I could see myself getting used the controls, but I still think they need a bit of tweaking. People who are interested in the genre should definitely check it out.

Honestly watching videos like this doesn't inspire a lot of confidence that it's going to be a very fun game. I'll probably still play it eventually.

He's fighting the drift mechanics of the game which is why he's not doing well. Motogames usually sticks to sim, semi-sim and modern arcade racers like Horizon. This game is pure old-school. In this game you literally lift the gas and slam it to start a drift then hold it pinned all the way around the corner. This game should be played with buttons for gas and brake in place of the analog triggers. No counter steer until you want to end the drift, then it's a quick flick followed by boosting.

I liked the Beta a lot. Very classic lift-drift racing. AI occasionally got lost into the walls and there are some graphical issues with the environments, some bad assets in with he good, but overall I was impressed with the game. It has some really well done reflections including self-reflection on the cars. I hope it does well.

Thanks for the insight. I've already noticed before that they're not always doing great with pure arcade games. I just thought it might be the game and not the player in this case. ;)

The simple fact that it is NOT another boring sim racer means I will be buying this game once it releases on PS4. To me, it looks like it should be called Ridge Racer Future. Still, for an arcade racer, it doesn't seem over-the-top enough. Not saying it won't be fun to play, but it's no Split Second or Motorstorm, you know?

The main thing I want to know though....how many tracks? To me, that is more important than how many cars in an arcade racer. I mean, it will be short lived if it only has like 6 or 8 tracks.

So they’ve patched this on Switch and it’s now phenomenal.

It was slaughtered in reviews pre-patch.

For the love of God, buy this game. No ones buying it and it’s the best racer since Daytona/Scud.

What was miracle included in this patch? 60fps or some smooth 30 fps?

It was unplayable on switch until patch 1.0.4
(Like 15fps)

It’s smooth now (I guess 30 but I’m not sure) and it’s really fun to play. It’s understandable that it reviewed really badly.

Thing is, right now it’s an amazing game. But no one is playing it :(

They had it coming. They lied about Switch port by not letting the player know about the Switch gameplay until it`s too late.

Plus although the patch has made a sizeable improvement, its still a far cry from XB1/PS4/PC, and the framerate looks 30fps with stutters (which is still better than it was).

Yeah but Switch was never going to run a game that looks like this at PS4 standard.

I got burned because I paid full price for this game. I slandered it all over the net.

Then they fixed it and I played with the new patch and it runs and plays really well on Switch now.

I’m trying to get the word out so people don’t miss out. It’s a shame to be the only one playing this because it’s really fantastic.

It’s like comparing doom on PS4 to doom on switch. Of course it’s better on PS4 but it’s a huge achievement that’s appreciated by many to have doom on switch.
